~ Kosina as he tortures one of his victims. |
Michael Kosina is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Middle Man". He is the leader of a group of men who terrorize, rape, and murder female exotic dancers.
He was portrayed by Steve Talley.
Biography[]
A former college student from Louisiana, Kosina led two of his male classmates in kidnapping and raping young women, until the police got too close to them; he then simply killed his accomplices and planted evidence on their corpses, leaving them to be posthumously blamed for all of the rapes.
Kosina then moved to Indiana, where he enrolled in Ernstrom University. He started hanging out with two underclassmen, Chris Salters and Scott Kagan. He was suspended from school for sexually assaulting a female student, although he managed to intimidate her into dropping the charges. He was finally kicked out for getting into a physical altercation with a professor.
One night, he, Salters, and Kagan got drunk and gang-raped a young woman, afterwards forcing her to dance for them. Kosina and his cronies raped and tortured the woman for two days, at the end of which Kosina took her out into a nearby cornfield and killed her without Salter and Kagan's knowledge. Calling themselves the Johnson County Brotherhood, the three of them began abducting and raping exotic dancers, with Kosina secretly killing them after they were done.
"Middle Man"[]
After the group murders dancer Meredith Joy and Kosina kidnaps her coworker Stephanie Wilson, the local police call in the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) to profile the offenders. When Salters and Kagan find out about the murders, they confront Kosina, who coldly rationalizes his actions as necessary to keep them out of prison. Kagan panics and tries to leave, but Kosina forces Salters to kill the would-be deserter.
Kosina catches Salters calling the county sheriff, who is also his father, and beats him up. Just as he and Salters are about to kill Stephanie, the BAU shows up, with Sheriff Salters in tow, and tries to arrest them. BAU Agent Emily Prentiss tells Salters that Kosina killed his last accomplices, prompting Kosina to give Salters up as Kagan's murderer. Kosina then demands that Salters pledge his loyalty. When Salters hesitates, Kosina prepares to kill him, but before he can pull the trigger, Sheriff Salters shoots him dead.
