You know why I don't print "stop immigration" in gigantic letters on my campaign literature? Because look at me. Look at me! You know what I stand for.
~ Michael Smart revealing his true nature.

Michael Smart is the overarching antagonist of the Season 4 episode, Metalhead and the main antagonist in the Season 6 episode Demon 79 of the anthology thriller series, Black Mirror. He is a seemingly polite and friendly conservative politician before it’s revealed he had much more nefarious plans.

He is played by David Shields.

Personality[]

Michael Smart appears as a friendly and passionate politician who wants to protect the values of the UK. However, as Nida and Gaap put it, Michael is actually shown to be an extremely xenophobic and evil person, who sees immigrants as inferior and would wish to get rid of all of them. He puts on a charismatic persona during his sermons but is quick to drop it in private to privately intimidate people.

Biography[]

According to Gaap, Michael murdered a dog with a rock when he was twelve years old and domestically abuses his wife behind closed doors, and he plans on taking over the United Kingdom through the Britannia Party to get rid of all immigrants from the United Kingdom.

Michael is seen by Nida holding a rally outside and after killing Tim, Keith and his brother, Michael comes into the store, getting a size fit by Vickie, to which he subtly intimidates her into voting for him. Nida asks Gaap to show a premonition on what he’s done. Gaap hesitantly agrees and shows her that in the future, Michael will win and hold a totalitarian police state that will end in “a impressive number of great juicy deaths.”

This leads Nida to quickly try and murder him at night, ramming him off the road before attempting to bash his head in, but she is quickly stopped by the police and apprehended. However, he is presumably killed alongside everyone else during the nuclear war starting.
