~ Michelle talking to Teddy.

Michelle Fuller is the main antagonist of the 2025 absurdist black comedy, Bugonia.

Michelle is the sophisticated, high-profile corporate executive officer of Auxolith, running it like a velvet glove cast in iron. But one quiet morning, she is kidnapped by a conspiracy theorist who becomes convinced she is not of this world, who have reason to believe she is an alien and behind Earth’s ecological collapse.

She was portrayed by Emma Stone, who portrayed Abigail in The Favourite (2018) and Cruella De Vil in Cruella (2021).

Physical Appearance[]

Michelle possesses a striking and memorable beauty that evolves dramatically over the course of the film. At first glance, she embodies the polished, commanding allure of a high-powered corporate executive. Her long auburn hair, styled in a sleek, sophisticated manner with subtle highlights, complements her expressive features, emphasizing high cheekbones and a refined jawline. Her skin is flawlessly maintained, dewy and luminous, which, combined with her impeccable makeup, gives her a radiant yet intimidating presence. Even in professional attire — tailored suits, sharp coats, and luxury accessories — she exudes control, confidence, and a magnetic authority, making her both admired and slightly intimidating.

As the story progresses, Michelle’s appearance transforms in a way that enhances her otherworldly and alien qualities. Following her abduction, she is shown with a completely shaved head, which immediately shifts focus to her eyes and facial expressions. The bald look accentuates her strong, symmetrical features and lends her a stark, almost ethereal presence. Her skin, often coated with a pale antihistamine cream during captivity, takes on a ghostly, otherworldly sheen, enhancing the impression that she is more than human. Even in moments of vulnerability, Michelle retains a captivating intensity; her gaze is piercing, her posture controlled, and her expressions convey intelligence, cunning, and a subtle, almost predatory grace. This contrast between her polished, executive elegance and her exposed, alien-like vulnerability amplifies her beauty, making it both powerful and haunting.

Personality[]

On the surface, Michelle acts as a modern CEO—professional, with an emphasis on corporate values like diversity and employee rights. She presents a "comforting CEO" image through her corporate messaging videos and use of buzzwords. She is a cold, pragmatic, and ruthless pharmaceutical CEO who uses a façade of empathy and corporate jargon to hide her manipulative and self-serving nature. She views people as beneath her and operates with a detached, calculated precision, even as her company exploits others. Ultimately, she believes she is the hero of her own story, a delusion she shares with her kidnapper, Teddy.

Even when kidnapped and tortured, Michelle remains surprisingly calm, cool, and methodical, using her intelligence and quick thinking to try and manage the situation. She exhibits a lack of authentic empathy, seeing humanity as a destructive species beneath her, which reinforces her separation from others. Her behavior is often described as "inhuman" even before her true origins are revealed.

Despite her harsh actions and decision to eliminate humanity, she sheds tears at the end, suggesting a complex and difficult choice rather than pure malice. She genuinely believed her alien race could suppress humanity's darker nature through drugs, and it was the failure of this "experiment" that pushed her to the final decision.

Michelle reveals to Teddy that while going undercover as a human, the more negative traits including selfish behavior and cruelty started to rub off on her.
