Michio Yuki is the protagonist villain of Osamu Tezuka's thriller manga MW, one of his darkest works. Michio is a handsome young banker with an upstanding position in Japanese society but secretly he is a serial kidnapper, murderer and rapist bent on destroying as many lives as he can for his own amusement.
Born into a family with a long line of kabuki actors, Yuki became criminally insane as result of being exposed to a government manufactured chemical weapon known as the MW during his childhood. This leads Yuki to commit all sorts of depraved crimes which he always confesses to his old acquaintance (and lover) Father Garai, a catholic priest, much to his dismay. Yuki's ultimate goal is to seize the MW gas from the government and use it to conduct his grand scheme of committing genocide against all mankind.
In the live action film he was portrayed by Hiroshi Tamaki, who also played Kazuki Soma in Lost Judgement and Tatsu the Immortal in the live action version of Gokushufudou.
Appearance[]
Yuki is a very attractive Japanese man on his early 20's. He has a slim fit, black hair with sideburns and he commonly wears glasses and suits when he is not impersonating other people. As a traditional bishõnen Yuki has soft feminine features, drawing the attention of men and women alike, something he uses this to his advantage when seducing his targets or even posing as his victims, going as far as to impersonate women without being suspected in the slightest. His design becomes slightly more detailed as the story continues, with Tezuka drawing him more pronounced features as opposed to his other bishõnen characters.
As pointed out many times in the story, Yuki inherited his good looks from his family and their long tradition as Kabuki actors, making him gifted with natural talent as a master of disguise. He is nearly identical to his brother, the prestigious actor Tamanojo Kawamoto, which becomes a crucial plot point during the last chapters.
History[]
Early life[]
Michio was born a privileged child as part of a great family of stage actors, with his older brother already being a famous child actor. When he was just in 4th grade Michio took a trip on a yacht to Okino Mafune, a mysterious island in the far south of Kagoshima near Okinawa. As fate would have it, a criminal gang known as the Crows were already established in the island at the time, looking to steal valuable material from a military storage facility nearby.
The Crows took notice of Michio and kidnapped him in order to extort a ransom out of his family. Little did they know that the facility close to them was in fact housing a top secret chemical weapon, a lethal gas meant to be used against Vietnam and Laos to inflict mass casualties. The gas was classified as MW.
That same day the MW leaked, killing everyone in the area except for Michio and one of the adolescent gang members, Garai. The two of them only survived because Garai had taken interest on Yuki so he took him far away to a cave where he had been grooming him. But Michio didn't leave unscathed, as once they came down he was exposed to a smaller amount of the MW, falling to a severe headache and an attack of nausea.
The incident marked both Yuki and Garai for life, with Garai later trying to atone for his sins by becoming a catholic priest while Yuki became a psychopathic criminal, with Garai stating that the MW stripped his heart of any shred of decency and morality. Both men also started a romantic and sexual relationship, with Garai becoming a reluctant accomplice to Yuki's crimes.
Personality[]
Under the guise of a formal and well mannered man of society, Yuki is a sick and twisted individual. As a result of the traumatic incident and near death experience in his childhood, Yuki became a vicious sadistic criminal with a deep hatred for the entire human race.
He commits atrocious crimes such as infanticide and even attempted genocide without a hint of remorse, even showing a dark sense of humor while performing these acts as he legitimately enjoys what he does. He can also be quite manipulative, luring many people such as innocent young girls he seduced into aiding his schemes only to double cross them later and disregard them as toys or tools.
The only ones he is shown to care about are Father Garai due to the history they share and his own pet dog Tomoe, though in both cases his relationships with them are portrayed in a dark light and as something perverse.
