Mick Hopwood was a minor character in the 2002 and 2003 series of the British soap opera Coronation Street. He was a policeman who had a relationship with established character Janice Battersby.

History[]

Mick Hopwood first appeared in Weatherfield as a policeman and soon began dating local resident Janice Battserby. He also helped out her neighbour Audrey Roberts when her family gets kidnapped by serial killer Richard Hillman, who had recently killed her employee Maxine Peacock and framed troublesome pupil Aidan Critchley for the crime.

Sometime later, Mick continued to build his romantic friendship with Janince and this sparked jealously from her ex-boyfriend Les Battersby. It was then Les tried to put Mick off Janice by telling him of her prior unsavory behavior. Mick initially dumped Janice but decided to try to make things work. Les could not let Janice go and constantly goaded Mick.

Eventually, Mick confronted Les when they crossed paths again. Mick soon lost his temper during the comosion and assaulted Les, who struck back in a skirmish between them. But then Mick lied to his superiors and said Les threw the first punch, which got Les thrown into prison. The assault was witnessed by Mick's colleague Emma Watts who reluctantly covered for him despite Les's pleas for her to come clean. When Emma's husband Curly found out the truth, he told Mick he was a terrible person for sending Les to prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Les was let out early for good behavior and was thrown out of the rovers when he confronted Mick. It was then Les drunkenly stole a crowbar and broke down Janice and Mick's door. He threatened Mick with a crowbar and it became clear to Janice that Mick was lying and Les was wrongfully convicted. Mick was about to attack Les again before Curly arrived and got the two men to call a truce. But then Mick and Janice got into an argument after Mick proposed to her. Consequently, she ended her relationship with Mick and he left the street afterwards.
