The Mighty Minotaur is the Minotaur-themed monster of the Evil Space Aliens under Rita Repulsa and a supporting antagonist in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He served as the main antagonist of the episode "Teamwork" and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Snizzard) of the hour-long special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always which celebrated the franchise's thirtieth anniversary.
He was originally voiced by the late Tom Wyner who also voiced many other monsters such as the very first monster in Power Rangers history Bones as well as the Knasty Knight, the Dark Warrior, the Genie and the Frankenstein's Monster in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and later voiced Electrovolt, General Havoc and Goldgoyle in Power Rangers Turbo, Furio and Cannonbrawl in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Fatcatfish in Power Rangers Time Force and Plug Org, Samurai Org and the Lion Tamer Org in Power Rangers Wild Force. Outside of Power Rangers, he is best known as Devimon from Digimon Adventures and Kimeramon from Digimon 02. In Once and Always, he was voiced by Ryan Cooper who also voiced Tentacus in Power Rangers Super Megaforce.
Personality[]
When he originally appeared, the Mighty Minotaur was nothing less than an absolutely feral and mindless beast that spoke only in angry yells and roars. Despite this, it was completely loyal to Rita and proved to be a brutally efficient and cruel fighter capable of decimating at least three of the Rangers.
After being resurrected, like with most of Rita's monsters, the Mighty Minotaur was a sadistic but jokey monster that was still loyal to Rita. While still boorish and temperamental as his original self, Robo-Minotaur is much more intelligent, able to speak and work in tandem with Robo-Snizzard. Still, such improvements didn't prevent him from becoming sloppy, as he unwisely revealed the tracking system in his shield's computer while assuring Snizzard at the public place thus alarming Alpha of their ability to track down Rangers and not cautious enough to anticipate their enemies luring them into a trap.
Biography[]
The Mighty Minotaur is created by Finster and by Rita to prevent the male Power Rangers from saving Trini and Kimberly from Goldar and the Putty Patrollers after they ambushed the two Rangers at Rita's illegal dumpsite. He fights Jason, Zack and Billy and is winning so Rita enlarges him and the Rangers are forced to regroup and summon the Dinozords. Despite this, they are no match for the Minotaur's indomitable strength and even the Dino Megazord Tank Mode is overwhelmed with Zordon withdrawing them before they can assume Battle Mode. Once at the Command Center though, he grants them their new Power Weapons and sends them to confront the newly human-sized Mighty Minotaur in the caves outside Angel Grove. Once there, they destroy his weapons with the Power Daggers and a Power Bow arrow before cutting him down with the Power Sword. With the Mighty Minotaur helpless, they form the Power Blaster and finally destroy the creature.
Once and Always[]
Thirty years after his original destruction, the Mighty Minotaur and the Snizzard are resurrected by a robotic Rita Repulsa as new robotic monsters. The Minotaur is capable of actual speech and possesses a tracker in his shield capable of finding Rangers whilst they are morphed. After being reintroduced by Rita at the graveyard, he fights Zack and Billy whilst the Snizzard manages to capture the three other Rangers for Rita. Outnumbered and overpowered, Billy and Zack retreat with Trini's daughter Minh only to be cornered by the Minotaur and Snizzard but they escape by flying away. Despite the minor set-back, she returns to the Moon only to need more energy as the power drain would take too long. As such, Rita launches simultaneous Putty attacks across the Earth to draw out the Power Rangers. When an attack at the Youth Center lures out the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers again (made up of Billy and Zack as well as Rocky and Katherine), Rita sends her monsters to capture them since they will be the last bits of power she will need. Despite initial confusion about Rocky and Katherine being the Red and Pink Rangers, the monsters overwhelm them only to capture none and the Rangers escape when the civilians are safe. Although they track them to the Park, Alpha overhears about the Minotaur's tracking ability so the Rangers demorph and escape much to the Minotaur's frustration.
Despite the failure, the Mighty Minotaur and the Snizzard are able to capture many other Rangers as part of Rita's plan to create a time portal so she can help her past self to change the future. When Billy, Katherine and Rocky morph in the Junkyard, the monsters confront them but end up being trapped under a magnet as part of the Rangers' plan to storm the Moon Palace. Soon after though, Rita returns and captures Minh before freeing her monsters and confronting the Rangers in the Moon Palace as the Minotaur holds Minh hostage until she breaks free and seemingly dies protecting Billy. However, she remembers her mother's past and gains the Yellow Ranger powers so the team morphs and fights Rita and her minions. The Mighty Minotaur fights Zack and Minh but is enraged when Billy impales Rita so he fights even more ferociously. In moments though, Kat is able to knock his shield away with a Power Bow arrow before Zack knocks him down with the Power Axe and Rocky finally kills the Mighty Minotaur once and for all by impaling him on the Power Sword.
Forms[]
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: The Mighty Minotaur possessed incredible strength, being able to overpower Jason, Billy and Zack in battle. Single blows from his club were able to take down all three Rangers and leaping up and stabbing the Tyrannosaurs with his horns was powerful enough to knock it down.
- Durability: A couple of blasts to the Mighty Minotaur's chest from the Triceratops Dinozord had little effect and even being blasted by the powerful Dino Megazord in Tank Mode had absolutely no effect.
- Hand-To-Hand Combat: In addition to his raw strength, the Mighty Minotaur was also a skilled fighter as he was able to take on Jason, Billy and Zack with ease.
- Extraordinary Leaper: The Mighty Minotaur could leap incredible distance.
- Fire Breath: The Mighty Minotaur could spew [powerful orange flames from his mouth.
- Horn Lighting Beam: The Mighty Minotaur's strongest attack where he could fire red and blue coloured lighting beams from his horns. This was able to cause large explosions behind the Sabretooth Dinozord and badly shake up the Tank Mode.
- Shrinkage: The Mighty Minotaur could return to human size at will although how he did this is unknown since he did this off-screen.
Arsenal[]
- Spike Club: The Mighty Minotaur wielded a spiked club that he could use to bludgeon his enemies with.
- Horn Shield: The Mighty Minotaur also carried a shield which he could use to block his enemies' attacks. A powerful double kick from Billy and Zack had no effect on it.
- Reflection: The Mighty Minotaur could block and reflect the male Rangers' Blade Blasters right back at them with only a slightly lunge from his shield.
- Horns: Being a Minotaur, He had a pair of bull horns to charge at his enemies.
Weaknesses[]
- Limited Intelligence: Despite his immense strength, the Mighty Minotaur wasn't a very smart monster as him stating his Ranger Tracking abilities led to the Rangers exploiting it to get the upper-hand.
- Demorphed Rangers: Despite having a Ranger Tracker in his shield, the Mighty Minotaur was unable to track them when they were unmorphed.
- Robotics: Due to being a cyborg, the Mighty Minotaur was susceptible to magnets as seen in the Angel Grove Junkyard.
Arsenal[]
- Spike Club: The robotic Mighty Minotaur retained his signature spiked club as a weapon in battle but it was even more powerful than before.
- Horn Shield: The robotic Mighty Minotaur also retained his shield from before but stronger and capable of blocking the Power Sword.
- Ranger Tracker: After being resurrected, the Mighty Minotaur's shield had a Ranger tracker that would bleep and flash red when Power Rangers appeared.
