WE DON'T NEED ANYONE ELSE!!! WE DON'T NEED [[Easels]] or [[CRTs]]! WE DON'T NEED ANY [[Man, Woman, or Child]] [[At Half Price]]!! WE DON'T NEED [[MIKE]]!!! ... Mike... KRIS!!! DON'T BELIEVE [[Anything You See On TV!]] THE MAN'S A CRIMINAL, I TELL YOU!! A CRIMINAL!!
~ Spamton first mentioning Mike.
Who's Mike?! Who is he?! 'cause none of us have ever seen him! None of us! Ever! Every time Tenna asks Mike to do something, it's either like... He just does it himself, we do it secretly, or... It just sorta happens! So, who is Mike!? Who is he!? Is he just Tenna's imaginary friend!? Is he Tenna's alter-ego!? Like some alternate personality or something!? And why the hell does he get so much love and attention!?
~ The Green Pippins/Small Mike ranting about Mike.

Motormouth Mike is a supporting antagonist in the 2018 episodic indie RPG Deltarune, serving as the secondary antagonist of Chapter 3: Late Night and a minor antagonist in Chapter 4: Prophecy.

Mike is allegedly Tenna's personal assistant who helps him in running his TV show TV Time!, and apparently a former friend of Spamton G. Spamton. He's an off-screen presence throughout Chapter 3, assisting Tenna in all his acts while never showing up in person.

In Chapter 4, an optional miniboss will reveal that "Mike" either never existed or disappeared long ago, and Tenna is currently being assisted by three fakes known as Small Mike, Cat Mike and Cowboy Hat Mike.

Appearance[]

The real Mike's appearance is unknown as he never appears in person. It's possible he might actually be the giant photorealistic microphone hidden in his room.

"Small Mike" appears as a short, round, humanoid microphone with a grin but no eyes. He wears black shoes and pants, a gray shirt, white gloves and a big red bowtie, and holds a microphone in his hand. His true form is that of a green Pippins.

"Cat Mike" appears as a humanoid black cat with purple-and-yellow eyes, and microphones for both hands and feet, wearing a big red bowtie. His true form is that of a Shadowguy.

"Cowboy Hat Mike" is a boom mic wearing black shoes and pants, a gray shirt with black dots, red gloves and bow tie, and a cowboy hat. His true form is that of a Zapper.

History[]

Chapter 2: A Cyber's World[]

If you ask Spamton about friends in his shop, he'll be briefly confused before going on a rant that he and Kris are friends and don't need anyone else. He claims he doesn't need Mike, before briefly shutting down and muttering his name, and then warning Kris to "not believe anything they see on TV".

If Spamton NEO was beaten with violence on the Normal Route, he'll begin to transform into Spamton EX while asking Mike if he's "getting all this". He blows up before he can finish the transformation.

Chapter 3: Late Night[]

Tenna repeatedly mentions an unseen Mike, asking him to do various things for him. "Mike" primarily assists Tenna in running his gameshow and making sure everything goes in order, though when time comes, he helps Tenna keep the Delta Warriors imprisoned as Tenna hijacks the gameshow for himself. Later on, when the heroes are traveling through the TV World, they encounter an enraged Tenna firing Lanino and Elnina. Mike himself then quits his job, causing a terrified Tenna to panic and beg Mike to stay.

Chapter 4: Prophecy[]

Mike's room can be found in Castle Town if every Darkner was recruited. After entering the code 6453 on his door, the door to Mike's room opens and, after getting a new "petting" mechanic via a Maus becoming your ally, "Mike" will appear and fight the heroes for breaking into his room. After a few rounds, he gets tired and leaves, only for Cat Mike to show up to replace his spot in the fight. Small Mike will continue to talk off-screen, acting like there's only one Mike and he just changed costumes because he didn't like the first one. After several turns, Cat Mike is called off and Cowboy Hat Mike replaces him, and quickly destroys the whole facade by repeatedly butchering Mike's title of "motormouth" and forgetting his lines. Small Mike gives in and admits there's three Mikes, and tries to kill the Fun Gang to stop them from snitching.

After a few more turns, Cowboy Hat Mike and Cat Mike try to use their normal attacks much to Small Mike's irritation, causing the battle to be called off. Small Mike reveals the other two to be a Zapper and Shadowguy respectively, pretending that he's the real deal and had to hire helpers cause Tenna was being too much of a hassle, but the Shadowguy rips off his disguise, revealing him to be a green-colored Pippins. The Green Pippins / Small Mike explains that the real Mike is a complete enigma to everyone, with no one ever seeing him in person. Since Tenna always gets angry when Mike is absent and takes it out on his men, these three Darkners started impersonating Mike to make him calm down, and Tenna bought it despite all three looking and acting differently. As the Pippins questions who Mike is, the Zapper / Cowboy Hat Mike theorizes that by taking on the Mike mantle, the three really became the true Mike; this causes the Pippins to question where the idea of a Mike even came from. After the three leave, the player can go to the very right of the room and, after several seconds, an apparition of a giant photorealistic microphone will appear and disappear.

After the battle is over, the player can return to Mike's room and gain access to three minigames - Battat for Small Mike, Jongler for Cowboy Hat Mike, and Pluey for Cat Mike - which will determine who the true Mike is according to Small Mike, as they believe the true Mike has to be the strongest one.

Trivia[]

  • The Mike fight is an obvious parody of the various theories the Deltarune community made about Mike after his one-off mention from Spamton. Each copycat references a different Deltarune theory, more specifically:
    • Small Mike parodies the "Mike is the TV" theory (born after fans assumed Mike would be the TV Darkner at the end of Chapter 2, before the character of Tenna was introduced during the Spamton Sweepstakes) and the "Mike is a secret boss" theory (due to being short, smiling and eccentric like Jevil and Spamton).
    • Cat Mike parodies the theory that Mike is FRIEND. Additionally, if you get the highest score on Cat Mike’s Pluey minigame, Small Mike will say: ”I swear, you people see PINK and YELLOW and think, oh, a FRIEND!!"
    • Cowboy Hat Mike parodies the Woody Theory / "Friend Inside Me", which theorized that the Chapter 3 secret boss would have been a scrapped cowboy show character with a "friend" controlling them from the inside. Additionally, if you get the highest score on Cowboy Hat Mike’s Jongler minigame, Small Mike will say: “I'll make you pay!! I've got connections!! I've got FRIENDS on the INSIDE!!”
  • When asked about Mike in the Spamton Sweepstakes, an enraged Spamton became defensive and believed the fans were part of Tenna's crew. This doesn't make sense or align with Chapter 3, which shows "Mike" is an ally of Tenna's rather than an enemy.
    • It can be assumed, however, that just like many of Spamton's other mannerisms, his liking of Mike was stolen from Tenna, meaning that even he doesn't know who Mike is.
    • It can also be assumed that Spamton was protecting the real Mike while the three off-Mikes were busy appeasing Tenna.
  • Before Chapters 3 & 4's release, Toby Fox posted a development tweet referencing Cat Mike's "Pluey" minigame. However, he simply stated he is "yet to implement Pluey" without elaborating, which sent the fanbase into shambles over the vague wording, with many people falsely believing Pluey was a new character.
  • Small Mike’s true appearance being a theory-obsessed green Pippins might be a nod to the Game Theorists YouTube channel. The board that the Pippins pulls out is also a reference to the “Pepe Silvia” scene from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which became a popular meme.
  • Despite the fight implying that Mike never existed, the Green Pippins will point out that when Tenna gives Mike an order, sometimes it will happen "by itself", and will claim that, in Tenna's own words, Mike started "acting different" after "the other guy" left. Because of this, it can be theorized that a real Mike still exists.
