Mike Caldwell, known in the credits as Mike the Rapist, is a major antagonist in the American drama series Friday Night Lights.
Despite his limited screen time, he plays a major role in the show, serving as a minor antagonist in Season 1, and being the overarching antagonist of Season 2. He is Tyra Collette's stalker and attempted rapist who leaves her traumatized after he attempted to force her into his truck after Landry Clarke was late to their study date.
He is portrayed by Matt McTighe, who also plays Bryce McCabe in S.W.A.T..
Biography[]
Season 1[]
After Landry's car broke down, making him late to his study date with Tyra, Mike took the opportunity to approach and assault Tyra in the parking lot of the restaurant she was at. Luckily, she managed to fight him off and slam his car door on his fingers, causing him to curse her and drive away, leaving her sobbing in the rain as Landry finally arrived. After Tyra told him what happened, Landry comforted her, and despite Tyra's instructions, Landry informed Tami Taylor, the guidance counsellor at their school, who helped Tyra report the event to the police.
Season 2[]
Mike continues to stalk Tyra, following her in his car as well as watching her when she's home. After he confronts her again and attempts to rape her again, this time Landry is there, and he starts to fight Mike. Mike punches Landry in the head and knocks him to the ground before turning to leave, telling Tyra that he'll come back for her later. In a moment of fury, Landry grabbed a metal pipe on the ground beside him and charged at Mike, hitting him in the head twice with the pipe and accidentally killing him.
As both Landry and Tyra panic, unsure of what to do, Landry attempts to call his father, who is a police officer, but Tyra begs him not to. Despite Landry's initial hesitation, Landry and Tyra dispose of Mike's body by tossing it into a river.
Trivia[]
- Mike Caldwell's death in the second season could be seen as a parallel to Jason's paralysis in the first season, as both incidents happened unintentionally in the first episode of their respective seasons.
