Biography[]
Past[]
He and his friend Ryan Novak continued to committ several petty crimes, before getting work as car thieves. They scoped many cars, until settling one on they liked. The two would bribe valets into putting trackers on the car to tail the car and steal it from the drivers, before delivering the cars to Michael Zadra, who ran his own carjacking ring.
Some Make It, Some Don't"[]
He is not physically seen but he and Ryan got a tip from a valet about a Mustang and they decided to act on. The two followed the car to a secluded spot, where the driver Kelly Severide pulled over and exited his car. Seeing the perfect opportunity with no witnessing parties, the two confronted Severide and demanded his keys but because he was drunk, they thought he was ready for a brawl. Not wanting to take chances, Cox proceeded to pistol whip him on the side of the head. With Severide knocked out, the pair stole his keys and Ryan drove the car, with Cox following behind after Ryan decided to take it for test drive but this ended up having consequences as he plowed into a minivan, leaving the occupants (a mother and her daughter) critically wounded. Cox finally caught up and Ryan quickly hopped in with him, as they fled the scene before firefighters from Firehouse 51 (coincidentally Severide's team) arrived and recognized the car and thought he was responsible.
A drunk Severide had stumbled to a nearby store and checked out his scar before going home, with no memory of being robbed before he was confronted by CPD for his possible involvement.
"Don't Bury This Case"[]
Because it was Severide's car, Cox and Ryan's part went under the radar while eyes were directed at him especially since he admitted to driving a block but didn't recall being robbed or his scar. However, he started to realize the situation's gravity, even telling the cops and firefighters to let him rot in prison if he did it, while not bothering to make him a deal.
Eventually, CPD Intelligence Unit soon discovered the tracker on the car that led to the discovery of the ring led by Zadra who gave them Ryan's identity, leading to the discovery of his role in the murder. A search of his mother's home also showed how his operation was done and Katrina's detainment confirmed she was aware and involved in his activities. Intelligence then realized he was responsible for the accident, while noting if he were driving at night like maniac, that he could be mistaken for Severide.
They decided to draw Cox and Ryan in by using Zadra's grudge against him on not getting money and Katrina's arrest, making it seem like Zadra kidnapped her to demand he get his money. Cox drove Ryan to the meet up and watched as he was livid with Zadra on abducting his mother and gave him the money before demanding to see her. However, he walked into the CPD's hand when he opened the trunk and both were placed under arrest by Det. Jay Halstead and undercover officer Kevin Atwater.
At the precinct, Cox is interrogated by Officer Kim Burgess and Det. Alvin Olinsky. Sgt. Voight walks in and tells them Ryan is not talking, and this means its Cox's lucky day, especially because they know Cox was not the driver and the injured mother identified a black-haired man not a blonde-haired man like him. Cox was slapped by Voight to talk on what occurred. Thinking he might escape charges, Cox explained that he and Ryan did rob Severide and he admits to striking him upside the head, revealing how he got the scar on his head. Cox mentions that Ryan drove the car that led to the wreck and carnage, before bringing up how they fled the scene. When a disgusted Burgess calls him out on his callous disregard of killing a child, Cox reminds them he wasn't the driver because of his different colored hair. Voight then relays to ASA Steve Kot that Cox pinned the whole thing on Ryan and only admits to helping him escape, but Kot announces he will charge Cox for being an accessory in the same crime, something Voight said worked for him. Kot also moved to have Severide exonerated and released.
Cox then imprisoned for his crimes of being an accessory to vehicular homicide, car theft, and assault. Meanwhile, Severide was exonerated and released.
