Michael "Mike" Donovan (also known as Father Donovan) is a minor antagonist in Dexter. He appears in the first novel, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the TV series' pilot episode, "Dexter", and Dexter: The Game.
He was portrayed in the TV series by Jim Abele, who also portrayed Curtis Benson in L.A. Noire.
History[]
Donovan is a well-liked pastor with a wife and two daughters, celebrated in his community for working with underprivileged children. Beneath his charming façade, however, he is a pedophile and a serial killer who rapes and murders young boys. His first known victims were named Corey Balanti, Tyler Kale and Joe Bigalow.
Dexter Morgan discovers what Donovan is doing and obtains irrefutable proof of his victim's guilt in accordance with his "code": he finds the shallow graves where Donovan buried three boys, and digs them up. He then kidnaps Donovan and confronts him with what he has done. Donovan insists that he can't help himself, but Dexter nevertheless incapacitates him and binds him to a table, where he tortures and kills him with sharp instruments. As he dies, Donovan says, "Thank you" to Dexter, who replies, "You're welcome".
