The history of Mileena from the Mortal Kombat series.
Original Timeline[]
Mortal Kombat II[]
After Queen Sindel of Edenia kills herself in defiance of Shao Kahn, the Emperor seeks to ensure that Kitana will not defy him as well. Thus Mileena is born, spawned of Shang Tsung's black magic, intended to take the Princess' place. This was not to be, however, as the Tarkatan essence used in her creation results in a grotesque countenance. Not content to let his experiment go to waste, Mileena is trained as a personal guard and insinuated into his daughter's company as her sister.
For a short time, Kitana and Mileena worked together as assassins in Shao Kahn's service; though ostensibly her companion, Mileena's true task is to report any suspicious activity to her Emperor. During the events of the second tournament, she finds that Kitana is indeed in league with Earthrealm's warriors. Too enraged to notify Kahn, Mileena attacks her sister personally. Kitana subsequently prevails against her, killing Mileena and sending her soul to the Netherrealm.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy[]
Condemned to the Netherrealm, Mileena found herself recruited by the fallen Elder God Shinnok. During Mortal Kombat Trilogy, she was resurrected by Shinnok and sent to Earthrealm to spy for him during Shao Kahn's invasion. She was also granted the ability to read Kitana's thoughts. After Kahn was defeated, Mileena was summoned back to the Netherrealm with Noob Saibot, who was also sent to spy on Shao Kahn.
Mortal Kombat Gold[]
Mileena would later join Shinnok's Army of Darkness during his invasion of the Realms, hoping to eventually break free of the fallen Elder God and take revenge on Kitana. She deliberately let her escape and confronted her sister, but was defeated by her and was left imprisoned.
Mortal Kombat: Deception[]
It is not until the return of the Dragon King Onaga that Mileena is finally freed. Found by her one-time ally Baraka, he convinces her to serve the Dragon King, where she is able to exact vengeance on her sister by posing as the leader of the Princess' armies; Mileena relished her temporary victory. Though aligned with Onaga, Mileena begins to entertain the idea of using the Edenian army to her own ends. Taking advantage of the weakened status of her former master, she storms Shao Kahn's fortress, declaring herself the ruler of Outworld. For a time she had the most powerful forces in either Outworld and Edenia.
Mileena has no trouble taking control of Kitana's armies in disguise, as most assumed her dead long ago. She gives command of her armies to Bo' Rai Cho, instructing him to act against Baraka's Tarkatan horde. To her surprise, he prevails, and with the most powerful army in either Outworld or Edenia now at her command, she is closer to her goal than ever. With only one issue to tie up, she seeks Baraka's presence at the Beetle's Lair, where she ambushes and kills him. Having slain the only person who knew of her deception, she is now free to pose indefinitely as Princess Kitana.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon[]
Her reign is short-lived, however. Having restored his former strength during the time of Armageddon, Shao Kahn now assaults his own fortress with the aid of Goro and Shang Tsung. Trying to shield herself from the Emperor's wrath, Mileena barricades herself in the throne room, and has her sorcerers cast a defensive barrier on the door. Even being magically bolstered, it is no match for Shao Kahn's brute strength, and soon Mileena is face to face with the Emperor. Still believing her to be Kitana, the remaining defenders rush to her aid, only to find themselves stabbed from behind by their "princess". Choosing fealty over death, Mileena reveals her identity to Kahn, and swears her allegiance.
Upon her capitulation, Mileena is tasked with the capture of Shujinko, whom Kahn believes will be useful in swaying Onaga to his side. Shujinko accepts an invitation from Mileena, presumably under the guise of Kitana; upon his arrival at Kahn's fortress, he is faced with the risen Emperor and his allies. Mileena captures him personally, fulfilling her duty to Kahn. But having been ruler for a time, she now chafes at the thought of servitude. Unfortunately, she realizes that while Shao Kahn lives, she has no hope of retaking the throne of Outworld. For this reason she travels to Edenia, hoping to reclaim her position there.
Like the other characters good and evil alike, in Armageddon Mileena perishes in the final battle.
Alternate Timeline[]
Mortal Kombat (2011)[]
"A fusion of Edenian flesh and Tarkatan blood, Mileena is both beauty and beast. Mileena first appears being born in the Flesh Pits."
In the revamped timeline Kitana discovers Mileena moments after she's been created. Wrapped in bandages and with her body mixed with Tarkatan strength and Edenian magic, Mileena awakens and notices Kitana. Upon seeing her "Sister" Kitana, Mileena tries to reason with her, although teasingly. However, Kitana horrified and angered, expresses her disgust before attacking her. Kitana succeeds in defeating her, however, she learns the revelation through Shang Tsung that he created "Mileena" through his sorcery; Kitana is captured with Mileena taking her place by Shao Kahn's side. Later after Kitana's capture, Mileena ditches the flesh Pits and bandages, in favor of a revealing magenta outfit; Mileena is able to catch up to Jade using her teleport. Mileena dances happily, expressing delight that her "sister" is going to die for her treachery. Jade, upon besting her, tells her that "she was more of a sister to Kitana than her." Mileena is later seen during Kung Lao's death by Shao Kahn and Liu Kang's fight.
With Shao Kahn alive, Mileena bows to the one she calls father and sees this as an opportunity to wreck havoc in the invasion of Earthrealm; among the destruction in the city, she's noticed by Kabal and Stryker, she immediately attacks Stryker. Mileena gets knocked down, but Stryker gets distracted by a roaring Dragon. Realizing an opportunity to attack Stryker, Mileena rushes at him with a fist. Stryker is immediately saved by Raiden and electrocutes Mileena. This attack, however, only incapacitated her briefly showing her durability against electricity she recovers. A couple hours later Mileena notices Motaro's been killed by Raiden and reports it back to Shao Kahn. She and Noob notice Kabal, who was spying on Sindel's power up. After a long fight, Kabal defeats Mileena and Noob with his speed helping him. After this, Mileena isn't seen throughout the rest of the story. Nonetheless, she backs off from Earthrealm in order to recover resources while Sindel invades. Mileena continues to support her Emperor Shao Kahn until his death by Raiden.
Kitana MK (2011) Arcade Ladder ending[]
After Shao Kahn's defeat, rather than fight Mileena, she pitied her half-twin sister. Kitana offered Mileena a home in the Edenian aristocracy since she was still considered family and of royal blood. Mileena, although initially cautious of this invitation, willingly accepted. With Mileena and Jade at her side, Kitana formed a deadly trio that would protect the realms with their strength together.
- This ending is non-canonical, but it's implied that this is what Kitana would've wanted.
Mortal Kombat X comics[]
After Shao Kahn's death, Mileena became the new Empress of Outworld. During the beginning of her reign, she forced Kytinn, D'Vorah to kneel and kiss her boot, and kicked D'Vorah's jaw when she tried do it, mockingly declaring that D'Vorah would be his humble servant, while she was delighted to have no fight back. Mileena's reign is worse and more tyrant than that of her father Shao Kahn and she was labelled the Mad Empress, driving Outworld to the edge of disaster. Kotal Kahn eventually usurped her government, and with Reptile at her side when they confronted her in a coup, she was kidnapped by Kotal Kahn's followers and imprisoned, although she later escaped with Tanya's help. Mileena was accompanied by the former general Outworld's army, Reiko and the Edenian traitor, Rain and the rebels are forced to hide for ten years. Mileena took Reiko as her closest lover and adviser, but she was unknowingly being manipulated by the former general for his own purposes. Mileena is seen in Raiden's visions along with Reiko. Mileena learned from Reiko that the Red Dragon agreed to help their cause, which pleases her. She then convinced Goro to join her cause after Prince Shokan found her hiding place. in Golden Desert, interpreting Goro's wishes to take revenge on Kotal Kahn for reducing the status of his people.
While Goro gathers the Red Dragon when Kotal Kahn comes to avenge his father's death, Mileena argues with Reiko how she will regain her throne, but Reiko says that Goro will seek to defy his rule. Mileena is confused by Goro's betrayal, but after Reiko tells him that Goro's betrayal by Kotal Kahn will lead him to betray him, Mileena is enraged and discovers his fangs and promises to devour Shokan's face. Clinging to her lover, Mileena believes that Reiko is the "only" one she can trust. After Kotal Kahn defeated and crippled Goro, the temple that Mileena used as a hiding place in Golden Desert is destroyed, but Reptile reveals that Mileena and Reiko escaped beforehand. Mileena fled to stay in the Setian Valley with her body recovered, but badly burned with Rain's. Aware of the Shokan and Oni Warlord alliance that was attacking the capitol, Mileena speaks in Rain's coma form, saying that under Kintaro's command they will never surrender and that Kotal Kahn will be dead that night. Believing that she will finally regain her throne, Mileena begins to tell Rain that all of her sacrifices will be worth it when Ermac arrives. Angry at being interrupted, Mileena demands to know if Kotal Kahn's head is still at a peak, but rages when she learns that Kotal Kahn made an alliance with the Black Dragon to defeat the Shokan. Destroying a vessel of rage, Mileena orders an attack to be mounted while Kotal Kahn's forces are still exhausted and demands to know where Reiko and the Red Dragon are, declaring the time for the general to keep his many promises to her. Ermac informs him that Reiko is on Shang Tsung Island when Rain suddenly regains consciousness. Mileena explains to Rain confused where he is and what happened to him when he suddenly asks where Reiko is. Mileena tells her that Reiko is absent and Rain reveals that Reiko intends to betray her and is working with cleric Havik.
Mileena knows Havik as a "spiritual advisor", having believed that the cleric was using witchcraft to strengthen his cause and admits that she is not so spiritual, but she trusted Reiko's judgment. Mileena asks Ermac if any of the thousands of souls within him it may reveal the nature of Havik, but the construction only expresses confusion and chaos when the name of Havik is mentioned. Annoyed by the fact that both Kotal Kahn and Reiko betrayed her, Mileena believes this is why everyone calls her paranoid before asking Ermac to assemble the Tarkatas and guide them to Shang Tsung Island and find Reiko. Mileena and her Tarkata horde arrive at the island's beach, where the forces of Kotal Kahn and Reiko are fighting. Mileena leads the charge of her followers on the beach, trying to keep Kotal Kahn and Reiko from killing each other, as the privilege of her death belongs to the true empress of Outworld. Mileena's path to Kotal Kahn and Reiko is blocked by Skarlet, who calls her strange confrontation. When Mileena demands to know why, Skarlet tells her that Reiko lost faith in her and turned to Skarlet herself. Mileena tries to tell Skarlet that Reiko is just true to himself and will betray her, but Skarlet laughs of the situation, calling her envious before revealing that Reiko enabled her, and attacking Mileena back with a blood ball. Mileena's Tarkata forces rush to defend themselves, but Skarlet kills everyone with ease. Mileena recovers, telling Skarlet that she became Reiko's puppet before throwing her out and impaling Skarlet although that doesn't hurt her.
Skarlet runs to Mileena, telling her that she is the daughter of Shao Kahn as the empress is, but as Skarlet refers to her "sister" about how she will share the throne with Reiko, her "brother" Ermac intervenes, linking Skarlet with telekinesis and opening it up to Mileena's attacks. Mileena destroys Skarlet's legs with a Brutality, but, as Skarlet weakly says, it won't kill her, and Mileena is unconscious while promising to torture her later. Ermac then summons Shao Kahn's Wrath Hammer to Mileena, and after asking if she is practiced with this, Mileena proclaims that the empress does not need practice. Mileena then uses the hammer to attack Reiko, destroying half of his head. Believing that he is dead, Mileena is informed by Ermac that Reiko will rise again thanks to her soul supported by the Code of Blood. In calling this a problem, Mileena confronts Kotal Kahn, holding his throat out. Questioning him about calling her crazy, Mileena lowers the gun and tells him that she is just crazy enough to keep him alive so that they can deal with Reiko together before dealing with each other.
Upon revived by the Blood Code with Kotal Kahn and Ermac, Mileena sneered at her still regenerating face, saying that even on the worst days, she looked better than that. After Kotal Kahn explained that they needed to keep "pushing" Reiko so that the Blood Code swallowed his soul, Mileena asked what their usurper mattered, and Kotal Kahn clarified that they needed to keep killing Reiko over and over again. Saying: "With pleasure". Mileena approached Reiko with her father's Wrath Hammer, but stopped to threaten Kotal Kahn with this, making it clear that she was not taking orders from him and that killing Reiko is because she came to the island. Reiko renews her attack on the three, and when the mighty general hit Mileena and Kotal Kahn with Ermac, the deposed empress lost her father's hammer and was cut off by the Kamidogu of Outworld. As Reiko revealed herself in her supposed victory, revealing the origins of her delusions of divinity, Mileena took off her skirt and hit Kotal Kahn while Ermac tore Reiko's head, with Mileena herself landing Reiko with her skirt while Kotal Kahn tore her legs with its blade enabled by the sun. There is little time to revel in the victory when Havik arrives, and although Mileena prepares to join Kotal Kahn in the fight against the chaos cleric, she is one of many affected by the corrupted Blood Code of Raiden's ray.
She is struck unconscious by Raiden's attack, and her body is taken to the throne room on Havik's orders. There, his blood is drawn into a ritual that will make Reiko the God of Blood. Mileena regains consciousness during this and sees Reiko become the God of the blood of prophecy. As the God of Blood, Reiko was hungry for tributes and contemplated sacrificing Mileena and Kotal Kahn to quench his new hunger, but Havik suggested that they be executed publicly instead and offered Mileena's Tarkata soldiers and Kotal Kahn's troops to him . After devouring all one hundred of them, Reiko's body began to separate, and the general died, when Havik revealed that he was nothing but a pawn, with Mileena seeing the chaos cleric taking the Shinnok amulet from his Mileena watches Havik test the amulet's power over some Shokan Boy Scouts and after the chaos cleric returns from destroying Queen Sheeva's ship, Mileena is stabbed by Raiden with one of the Kamidogu, enslaving his will to Havik through the Blood Code. Now corrupted by blood magic, Mileena's eyes burn red, saying: "Every throne is a cage". Before Havik can drain Ermac from their souls to empower Shinnok's amulet, the Chaosrealmer's hand is cut off by Takeda Takahashi using his new serrated whips.
Jacqui Briggs battling Takeda Takahashi, only to be quickly defeated. As Takeda Takahashi moves towards Havik, the chaos cleric in shock asks where Mileena is, and the possessed empress announces his arrival by landing a teleportation shooting to Takeda Takahashi, leaving him open to be attacked by all slaves from Havik. Mileena watches Havik's torture against Takeda Takahashi with Shinnok's amulet, and when D'Vorah arrives with reinforcements from Outworld, Mileena is attacked by Reptile with her acidic spit.Mileena manages to win the battle with Reptile and bites her neck viciously before being released from Havik's control. When the assembled fighters summon, Mileena left to free Ermac, using one of his leaves to break ties. Whispering to Ermac that it is time to go and that if they hurry, they can claim the throne in Z'unkarah. Mileena is enraged when Ermac tells him that she will not accompany her and will refuse to listen, stating that Kotal Kahn is the leader of Outworld. Mileena then flees from Shang Tsung Island alone.
Mortal Kombat X[]
Five years before the main events, Mileena confronts Kotal Kahn, D'Vorah and Reptile, as they are conspiring to dethrone her. Shao Kahn, but she responds by saying that she is his heir by decree. Kotal Kahn gives her one last request to hear her advice, but she refuses and orders a Tarkatan to kill him. Ermac then betrays her, saying he will serve whomever he chooses, and they get involved in a fight. Mileena's army is wiped out, including Baraka who ends up dying at the hands of D'Vorah, and she is arrested by Kotal Kahn, who becomes the new emperor of Outworld. At some later time, she is released by a group that includes Tanya and Rain and begins a rebellion to At the moment, Mileena launches a sneak attack on Kotal Kahn in Z'Unkahrah with Rain, Tanya and Kano, whom she paid to assassinate Kotal Kahn. However, all four are defeated by the emperor.
Before Kotal Kahn able to execute it, Mileena uses Shinnok's amulet to protect herself. But she collapses later and Rain escapes with her. By harnessing the amulet's power "without precision", Mileena also destroys Li Mei's village and makes its citizens displaced to Earthrealm as refugees. Later it turns out that Rain says the amulet kills her slowly, part of his plan to bring the throne of Outworld to him, after Kotal Kahn and Mileena are discarded. Special Forces learned of Mileena's location through Kano after he was captured, and the Cassie Cage's group is sent to Kuatan Jungle with Kotal Kahn's army to retrieve the amulet. Mileena fights D'Vorah and Cassie in their tent while trying to steal Shinnok's amulet and fights Kytinn, but is defeated and brought to Kotal Kahn. He considers him unworthy to kill her, and used D'Vorah to do so.
She unleashes parasites on Mileena in her flesh through a kiss while Cassie Cage and her group look, visibly disgusted, at the empress's death.
Mortal Kombat 11[]
Mileena returns as a playable DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11. Before this, she also appeared in the Joker's arcade mode ending and in Kitana's friendship. She is depicted as having been brought to the future through time, and persues her emnity with her enemies, especially Kitana.
New Era[]
Mortal Kombat 1[]
In the New Era created by Liu Kang, rather than being a clone of Kitana, Mileena is her elder twin sister and the heir apparent to the throne of Outworld. She is much more noble and just than her previous incarnations, but is more impulsive than Kitana. Unfortunately, Mileena is infected by the Tarkat disease, which mutates her body (giving her her signature sharp teeth) and slowly deteriorates her mind, twisting her into a savage, bloodthirsty monster. When Kenshi, Johnny and Kung Lao unwittingly interfere in Shang Tsung's administering of a suppressant, her Tarkat infection takes over and the Earthrealmers have to hold her back so it can be administered. Kung Lao and Johnny managed to hold her at bay, before the monsterous Mileena broke free, nearly mauling Johnny before Kenshi intervenes. Mileena grabs her sais and stabs Kenshi in the eyes, blinding him, before Shang Tsung finally subdues her and injects the suppressant, knocking her unconscious, and returning her to normal. While she later had another attack of Tarkat when the serum wore off, Mileena was able to channel it in defeating Dark Raiden and Sindel.
A villainous version of Mileena who is from the previous timeline comes to invade to destroy Liu Kang's timeline. This Dark Mileena joined her master Titan Shang Tsung in confronting Fire God Liu Kang and his Titan allies in an attempt to destroy his Hourglass. Her and Dark Kitana stayed with their master while the others fought Liu Kang's group, and began channelling energy to destroy the Hourglass. They began to successfully crack it, but after Liu Kang and the others fought past the Dark minions, Shang Tsung ordered them to instead kill them. They faced the Titan Kitana and Liu Kang, and were taken out in the subsequent duel. During the battle of Armageddon, a trio of Dark Mileenas fought the playable Final Warrior, who managed to kill them with their own Sais, but a fourth managed to pin them down. After a struggle, the Final Warrior was forced to defend themselves by stabbing Dark Mileena in the eyes with her own Sais.
Khaos Reigns[]
Another alternate version of Mileena features in the DLC, Khaos Reigns, as one of the wardens of Titan Havik's Maze, along with her sister. They were tasked with guarding the captured Dragon Orin, and were cruel to her, starving her for days prior to the events of the DLC. These "Maze Hunters" confront Empress Tanya and Sektor, gleefully plotting to feed them to the dragon. They elected to draw out the kill for Havik's entertainment, but Tanya and Sektor were able to defeat Mileena and Kitana. They refused to stay down, however, and to add more novelty to the fight, the Maze began rotatng, unbalancing the fighters. Mileena still fought Sektor while Maze rotated, but was unable to kill her/ In the following confrontation, Kitana and Mileena were defeated for good by Tanya and Sektor.

~ Mileena attacking Sonya Blade. |
In Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Mileena is played by Dana Hee and served as an assassin for Shao Kahn. She fought Sonya Blade, who initially mistook Mileena for Kitana. Sonya killed Mileena, causing the dragon tattoo on her shoulder to come to life and quickly disappear. The similar appearances of Mileena and Kitana are the only connections between the two characters that make the film. Mileena's name is never mentioned in the film, when Sonya Blade realizes that Raiden shares the same dragon tattoo that Mileena and Cyrax have. Later in the film, she refers to them only as "a robot and a woman" who tried to kill her. However, the final credits identify her as Mileena. Appropriately, Dana Hee was the stunt double for Talisa Soto (Kitana) in both films.
Mortal Kombat: Conquest[]
Mileena appeared in an episode of the television series Mortal Kombat: Conquest, in which she had no initial relationship with Kitana and was portrayed here as a initially repulsive and aggressive Outworld warrior sent by Shao Kahn to assassinate the weakened Kung Lao, with a magic and a spell placed on her to give the look of Kitana, which he loved and for a second, he called his "new daughter" before saying that her beauty was temporary and, if she failed, he would take her out as punishment for taking too long on her mission, Shao Kahn allows her to maintain her beauty with the exception of making her teeth more exaggerated and pointed and making her voice sound like that of an old woman, and her outward beauty to remind her of trying to be something she’s not. By giving her face with fangs and a downcast voice she makes her features much more amazing, and she starts wearing her mask signature, which Shao Kahn gives her before ordering her guards to take her. She was portrayed by Megan Brown in both forms, and by Audie England in the form of Kitana. Mileena, wearing a green costume, managed to seduce Kung Lao, but he didn't manage to kill him during father's night and was also explicitly warned by Shang Tsung not to do so. She apologizes to Shao Kahn and then fights an inconclusive duel against Kitana, broken by Shao Kahn.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy[]
In Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Mileena is played by Jolene Tran. Mileena's story has practically remained unchanged, but instead of being raised when Shao Kahn began to doubt Kitana's loyalty, she was raised as a child and grew up alongside her as her sister, with the two of them largely unaware of the truth of their relationship some time ago In addition, as long as she maintains her Tarkatan traits, they do not manifest unless she is very irritated, leaving her scarred face similar to a Glasgow smile. Mileena was created by Shang Tsung from a vial of Kitana's blood and blood from Tarkatan after Shao Kahn began to fear that Sindel would raise Kitana to hate him as she did, but when Sindel saw the child Mileena beside her own daughter, just as she is briefly characterized in her true Tarkatan form, she took her own life to infuse her soul into her daughter.
This left Shao Kahn to raise the girls themselves, and in his teens, he started training them as his personal killers after realizing his promising ability, with Mileena being efficient with sai. Mileena was angry at her father's greatest approval of Kitana and, one night, lost control of her bestial instincts and killed a guard when he found her studying her changed face at a nearby source, tearing her throat out with her teeth. Although Mileena was horrified, Shao Kahn was secretly watching and was pleased to see Mileena start to lose her control of herself, in addition to her manipulations of herself and Kitana.Mileena fought against Kitana before her father, but was dominated by her sister, who was declared the winner, irritating Mileena enough that her teeth would appear briefly. Shao Kahn then assigned the two to start hunting and eliminate the rest of King Jerrod's decoys and bodyguards, a task that Mileena When Shao Kahn gave them the task of killing the real Jerrod, Mileena waited while Kitana confronted him and killed him from behind, impaling him with his skirt, giving her sister a dirty smile.
While he retrieved his weapon and left. Mileena did not realize that this act would lead Kitana to discover her true heritage and start planning her rebellion against her "father", and Mileena was no longer wise when she knelt before Shao Kahn when she started to tell. her plans for the Earthrealm's conquest. Jolene Tran did not resume her role as Mileena for the second season, and was replaced by the stuntman and actress Michelle Lee.
