The Military (Uk. Військові) or otherwise often referred to as the Army are a major antagonistic fraction in the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. They serve as major antagonists in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and as overarching protagonists in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

The Military are Ukrainian soldiers that have been sent into the Zone by the Ukrainian government to guard the perimeter and conduct operations within the Zone

History[]

The were patrolling the Zone from the very begging of its existence. In 2011 controlled almost the entire Cardon but quickly started to gave away positions under the Zone's fauna, anomalies it possesses and corruption within its forces. One of the majors was taken hostage by the Loners due to his connection to the Bandits, an saving operation was unsuccessful. The Military was able to regain control over several points in Zone but eventually were wiped out and taken over. In Limansk the army attempted to stop the Monolith and fractions from entering, but due to the Clear Sky with the help of Shram, they failed

In 2012, the Military were mostly focused on exploring the Zone and the reasons behind its creation. The SSU authorities issued a warrant for the military to take over Agraprom to later explore the underground of the former university. However, the group was destroyed by Mechenyj and the documents they gathered were stolen. The Military sent a group to clean-up the Dark Valley to take impotent documents from X-18, but it's failed too. After the psy-devices in X-16 were turned off they ordered a clean-up of the whole near X-16.

After the Brain Scorcher was turned off, the Military started a large-scaled operation within the Zone, named "Monolith" which ended in catastrophe, resulting in almost all the Military units to be destroyed

In the summer of 2012, three months after the fail of Operation "Monolith" the Military attempted to conduct a second special operation, named "Fairway". Dozens of helicopters directed to the ChNPP but, no vehicles returned. The Military send a SSU agent to discover the reason behind the fail and find out the fate of those who participated: From the whole Stingray squad only 25 soldiers survived. However, the Zone took the souls of 13 of them[1]

Ranks & Structure[]

Unlike other fractions, the Military isn't really a "fraction" due to them simply being Ukrainian soldiers. Moreover, we can divide them into 4 divisions:

  • Regular Army: Members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, guard the border of the locked area. Lightly equipped and seen engaging in corruption
  • Spetsnaz/Special Forces: Members of the Ukrainian Special Forces. Participating in clean-ups of huge stalkers activities and in taking over important places
  • Pilots: Members of the Ukrainian Air Forces. Usually non-action soldiers who just drive vehicles, but sometimes their helicopter is equipped with weapons, then they become a problem
  • Militarized Stalkers: Elite soldiers that either served in the Zone for a long time or stalkers that made a contract with the Army.
