Goodbye! Yes, it's goodbye! May you all perish up there! Jorgen and Wolff bungled their work. We shall not get your accursed rocket... Well, may you go to the devil in it!
~ Miller's villainous breakdown and defeat as he curses his agents and the rocket crew, also his last words in Explorers on the Moon.

Miller is the main antagonist of the Tintin comic book duology Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon.

He is the German spymaster of an unnamed power who is the mastermind behind the plot of hijacking the Slydavian rocket programme by having both Wolff and Jorgen infiltrated inside the rocket so they could bring it back to Earth. He is also the one whe coerced Wolff into becoming a spy for the unnamed power, as well as the one who had Jorgen smuggled inside the rocket, hiding his identity as a "journalist" in order to stay undetected.

Appearance[]

Miller is a man with white hair on the sides of his head, round glasses, a white shirt with a brown suit and a green bow tie.

Biography[]

Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon[]

Miller is first seen on the plane that Tintin and Haddock are taking to visit Calculus in Syldavia. Miller is then surprised when he hears the word "Calculus", showing that he already planned to hijack the moon programme.

Miller is then seen again in the airport, where he and his associate, only known as the Baron, were following Tintin and Haddock, only to pull back when they realized that they were being escorted by the Syldavian Secret Police (ZEPO) to the Sbrodji Atomic Research Centre.

Back in Klow, Miller finds Wolff's name in the list of the Centre's personel, proud that their agent K.27 did not waste his time. He then sends three agents into the area of the Centre, only to be spotted by the Sbrodji Control, who orders them to leave the Security Area or they would be shot down. However, instead of leaving the area, the three agents jump off the plane, but only two of them are successfully landing in the mountains near the Centre, as the third one was killed because his parachute failed to open.

Later at night, he had Wolff obtain the plans for the experimental rocket X-FLR6 and give them to his parachuted agents via the ventilators. However, one of the agents sent by Miller to have the plans given by him by Wolff is spotted by Tintin, only for Jim, the other agent, to shoot him down, allowing him to take the plans to Miller. Miller, learning that the parachutists succeeded in their first mission, is pleased to see that they will have their rocket now.

When the rocket X-FLR6 is being experimented, Miller uses his radar to detect the rocket flying in space, waiting for the right time to take action. Eventually, the rocket reappears in the radar, allowing Miller to have his radio station take control of it and bring it back to Earth. However, Tintin and Calculus had already expected it and blew up the rocket before it could get taken by the unnamed power.

Gathering the info of the launching date from his new agent, he arranged for Colonel Jorgen, an old enemy of Tintin who was encountered during the events of King Ottokar's Sceptre, to be smuggled aboard the rocket under the identity of a journalist. When the rocket finally launches in space, he listens to radio transmissions between the rocket and the Earth while staying up-to-date to the events. Unfortunately, both of his agents perish in their attempts, with Wolff ultimately sacrficing himself to save Tintin and Jorgen accidentally killed by the former during a struggle. This leads to Miller cursing the rocket crew and his bungling agents, wishing for them to die in the last stage of the return journey.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being the main antagonist, he does not interact with Tintin directly for the majority of the two comics, as he is only seen in multiple panels doing his plans and listening to up-to-date events on the moon journey via radio transmission, the only exception being at the airport.
  • Just like any other spymaster, he uses codenames to name the different parts of his plan, like the Sbrodji Atomic Research Centre being the "Main Workshop", Calculus being the "Mammoth" and Haddock being the "Whale".
