“ | You DUMMIES! The only reason I'm HERE is to get in the way! | „ |
~ Mimi |
Mimi is one of Count Bleck's minions and a supporting antagonist in the 2007 Nintendo Wii video game Super Paper Mario, making her first appearance in the second chapter of the game. She is a shapeshifter, which she uses to confuse the heroes several times. She normally takes the form of a small and innocent looking little green girl. When she battles the heroes head-on, she assumes her spider form, whose legs must be knocked off to be defeated.
Personality[]
Mimi deliberately puts on the façade of an innocent and harmless young girl, and when interacting with her fellow minions, she tends to come off as a lighthearted prankster who likes to mimic her fellow minions as a means of teasing them. However, her real personality is a lot more nasty. It is revealed at Merlee's mansion that she has tricked numerous individuals into thinking they've broken an extremely important and valuable vase of hers and has essentially enslaved them to do manual labor in order to pay it off, which, due to her claiming it to be worth an obscenely expensive one million Rubees, some of them can never hope to do. She also has a very vicious temper, which is first shown when she takes on Bowser's appearance and yells at Dimentio for reading her diary, and subsequently demonstrated whenever the heroes outsmart her, which she tends to react to by yelling and throwing a tantrum.
She also appears to be somewhat sadistic, possibly even psychopathic, since she seems to enjoy tricking her prisoners into serving lifetimes of servitude, openly admits to enjoying doing whatever she has to to get what she wants, and when enraged, makes some violent threats like threatening to tear the heroes to bits like confetti. However, somewhat tempering this is that she also tends to come off as very childish, with the tantrums she throws whenever she doesn't get her way coming off as akin to that of a spoiled child not getting what they want. This is only further accentuated by her tending to throw out a lot of childish insults towards the heroes, like calling them "doofuses", "stupid-heads" and "dummies".
Despite all that, as the game progresses, Mimi begins to show a more positive side to her personality. When Princess Peach decides to save her from falling in spite of all her the bad things she's done, she is noticeably touched when she explains her drive to help others in need regardless of what kind of people they are. Additionally, like O'Chunks and Nastasia, and decidedly unlike Dimentio, she's very loyal to Count Bleck due to feeling like she owes her life to him, and helps him and the others revitalize the Pure Hearts to defeat Dimentio after he betrayed him and took the Chaos Heart for himself. She also shows a more sensitive and caring side at the end, when alongside O'Chunks, she comforts Nastasia after she bursts into tears over Bleck's disappearance from their dimension after he redeemed and sacrificed himself to stop the Chaos Heart from destroying all dimensions, as well as redeemed herself by deciding to set out and help create the ideal world Bleck told them they'd create alongside the others to honor his memory.
Appearance[]
In her normal state, Mimi appears as a girl with green skin and consistently wears pigtails as her hairstyle. Her battle form resembles a spider. She wears different outfits depending on when she is encountered. Her eyes are black dots, though they occasionally turn white when she's surprised or angry.
Biography[]
In Chapter 2, Mimi poses as Merlee's handmaid, and tries her best to trick Mario into a spiked room, but the hero escapes and gets a key using his dimension-flip ability, and releases Merlee's pet Gnip, Gnaw, which chases Mimi off. She later tricks Mario and Peach into breaking a vase and forces them to pay it back in a million Rubees, but they found her secret stash of Rubees and paid the loan in full, breaking her curse on the mansion. They eventually fought her in the basement of Merlee's house, where she transformed into Merlee and had Mario ask her and Merlee each five questions, to guess who was Merlee and who was Mimi. Regardless of whether or not the player chooses the real Merlee, Mimi will reveal herself and transform into a spider-like creature known as True Mimi, and fight Mario and Peach.
To defeat her, they must jump on her head to stun her, then jump on her again to make one of her six legs fall off. After all six legs were knocked off, Mimi was defeated.
Mimi was later talked by Dimentio into attacking Mario at Sammer's Kingdom, despite direct orders by Count Bleck to remain at Castle Bleck. She fought them in her humanoid form this time, often protected by a shield of Rubees, but using Thoreau, Mario, Peach, and Paper Bowser were able to grab the Rubees and throw them back at her. However, this battle was just her way of stalling for time, as the world was already on the verge of collapse.
She is fought a final time in Part 2 of Castle Bleck. She pretends to be Merlon and tricks Mario, Peach, and Luigi into falling down a trapdoor (Bowser was lost during a fight with O'Chunks), and later pretends to be Merlee and asks them what they hate the most (giving them choices of an easy enemy, a hard enemy, or an item). Ironically, Bowser (who is currently absent) employed the same tactics in the first Paper Mario. Eventually, Mimi made fun of Peach for having to be rescued by Mario and Luigi, so Peach fought Mimi one on one. Mimi transformed into her spider form but was defeated. Afterward, the floor collapsed, and Peach held on to a side of the room, while holding onto Mimi to keep her from falling, but ultimately lost her grip and both plummeted into the abyss below.
It is later revealed that Peach and Mimi survived, as they landed on top of Bowser. After Dimentio supposedly killed Nastasia and teleported her, the weakened Count Bleck, and Tippi to Dimension D, Mimi and O'Chunks came to Dimension D and they, Tippi, and Bleck used the power of the Pure Hearts to negate Super Dimentio's invincibility, thus giving Mario, Peach, and Bowser the chance they needed to destroy him once and for all. However, he left behind a shadow of his power to control the Chaos Heart. Mimi and the others witnessed Count Bleck and Tippi's marriage in order to stop the Chaos Heart and close the Void.
At the end of the game, she goes off with Nastasia (who is brought back to life) and O'Chunks to help build a perfect world. She becomes Merlee's actual handmaid and can be found in Part 2 of Merlee's Mansion at the end of the game.

Trivia[]
- When talking to Carson in Flopside, he mentions that Mimi may be a Pixl experiment, or possibly also the creation of a witch who experimented with potions to induce mimicking.
- Mimi has a not-so-secret crush on Count Bleck.
- Mimi's role in the game is similar to Doopliss from The Thousand Year Door; both are shapeshifters working for the main antagonistic force in the games (Count Bleck's Minions for Mimi and the X-Nauts for Doopliss although Doopliss joins them halfway into the game), both are fought three times throughout the game and in the final chapter, both disguise themselves as an ally to the players in a final attempt to stop them.
- Mimi also appears in volume 37 of the Super Mario-Kun manga, where she has a similar role to the game. A notable difference is that Mimi has Merlee tied up, and Mario defeats her spider form with the help of a Gnip that gives him a ? Block containing Pal Pills.
