...The Dummy's face crinkled, full of hate, wanting those cheers for himself.
~ Noone's description of Mini-Kin's jealousy

The Mini-Kin is a major antagonist in the 2025 horror adventure game Little Nightmares III, also appearing in the audio fiction series, The Sounds of Nightmares. He, along with The Kin, are the ringleaders of the Carnevale. The Mini-Kin is a grotesque and small humanoid who spends most of his time with The Kin.

Characteristics[]

The Mini-Kin's main purpose seems to be aiding The Kin in enslaving children to perform. Many of his characteristics almost make him similar to the characteristics of a dog's relationship with its owner (albeit in a twisted fashion).

In the Sounds of Nightmares, The Mini-Kin is shown on The Kin's lap, being referred to as "The Dummy". The Mini-Kin is shown smiling, but he lacks the aggressiveness seen in Little Nightmares III. Additionally, the Mini-Kin is also described as being jealous toward the praise of performing children.

Little Nightmares III shows the Mini-Kin in a much more hostile manner. He is often the first to pursue Low and Alone when they are noticed. He also helps flush them out to be captured by The Kin, showcasing their surprising chemistry that is not seen with other Residents. He also eagerly consumes organs fed to him by The Kin.

Appearance[]

Despite being referred to as "The Dummy", the Mini-Kin seems to be an organic creature. His face is often depicted smiling and has pale, sagging skin. He wears a similar outfit to The Kin that is white rather than purple. The Mini-Kin is usually seen either on The Kin's lap or attached to his hand.

Biography[]

The Mini-Kin's first appearance in Little Nightmares III is shown when he is seen sleeping with The Kin in a couch, attached to his hand. After Low and Alone pull out a wooden board from the wall to progress, the Mini-Kin shrieks, waking up The Kin. Mini-Kin is released after the two children but loses sight of them after they narrowly hide. Mini-Kin continues into the next room, jumps on the table, and proceeds to bang a bowl, shrieking at The Kin to come feed him. After being fed organs from The Herd, Mini-Kin consumes them without hesitation. After Low and Alone crank a lever in another room to escape, Mini-Kin is alerted and chases after them but fails to catch them in time.

Later in the Carnevale, Low and Alone are in the underground portions of the ship. Mini-Kin is seen again as he destroys the vent cover and leaps out to attack Low and Alone. He chases them through the small, claustrophobic environment, ultimately losing them when they escape in an elevator. However, it ended up being part of a plan to flush Low and Alone into The Kin.

Low and Alone wake up in cages. Low shouts at The Kin to distract him. The Kin walks to Low's cage to let Mini-Kin threaten him. Low manages to distract the two of them again by shooting a glass jar containing a Nome.

The Mini-Kin is later seen when The Kin forces a child to perform, being used to instill fear into them while they juggle objects. After Low and Alone sneak their way to a key and open the door, Mini-Kin is alerted with The Kin. Low and Alone are able to run away and reach a hot air balloon, but Mini-Kin is revealed to have been released and crawls out from underneath. After The Kin attempts to shoot Low and Alone with a shotgun but misses, the Mini-Kin makes one final attempt to attack them, climbing the ballon and perching on the burner. However, Low and Alone swiftly pull the lever, igniting the system and lighting Mini-Kin on fire. Mini-Kin then shrieks and supposedly plummets to his death.

Trivia[]

  • The Kin and Mini-Kin seem to enjoy time together, shown by several pairs of chairs throughout the Carnevale chapter.
  • The Kin and Mini-Kin are the second crime duo in the franchise, the first being the Twin Chefs.
  • The Mini-Kin contrasts The Kin's characteristics, being aggressive and frantic, while The Kin is somewhat more calm and collective.
