~ DogDay about the Little Critters in Chapter 3. |
The Mini Smiling Critters are the secondary antagonists of Chapter 3: Deep Sleep of the 2021 indie horror game Poppy Playtime.
They are version of mini toys of heroic animals Smiling Critters made by Playtime Co., designed after the Smiling Critter toys.
Personality[]
The Mini Smiling Critters give off the impression of being vicious, bloodthirsty beasts who have no regrets. Their extreme inhumanity—behaving like animals and even creating high-pitched chuckling and shrieking noises when chasing their prey—is probably the source of their sadistic impulses. It is evident how unrelenting they are because they are prepared to enter a gigantic Smiling Critter and manipulate him like a puppet.
Biography[]
Miniature and Bigger Bodies versions of the Smiling Critter characters were constructed shortly after their creation for use in the Playcare. DogDay claims that in order to escape dying, the Mini Critters sided with CatNap and The Prototype either before or during The Hour of Joy. However, the Bigger Bodies versions of the Smiling Critters rejected CatNap, and thus by Chapter 3, all of them except DogDay were eliminated by either CatNap or the Mini Critters. To avoid the fate of their Bigger Body counterparts, the Mini Critters followed CatNap’s rule, and he fed them.
Chapter 3: Deep Sleep[]
The Critters make an appearance as malevolent plush toys. They pursue the Player through the Playhouse's labyrinthine interior. It is up to the player to scare them away by shooting flares at them with the orange GrabPack hand, or they will jumpscare The Player by biting and lunging for their face. Every time the Smiling Critters crawl around, they seem to create high-pitched giggling and shrieking noises. Later, in order to control Bigger Bodies DogDay and pursue The Player, a number of Mini Critters burrow inside his open chest wound. After failing to kill The Player, it is assumed that the Mini Critters consume DogDay while still alive.
Poppy Playtime chapter 4[]
They will be returning in the next chapter.

“ | That thing, CatNap. The Prototype is his god, and this is what he does to heretics. These little toys follow CatNap to avoid that very fate, and in return, they are fed. | „ |
