Mink Morris is the antagonist of the Ray Bradbury short story Zero Hour. She is a young girl who leads a group of neighborhood children in assisting an alien invasion of the Earth.
She was played by Katherine Isabelle on The Ray Bradbury Theater.
History[]
She is an intelligent but malicious girl who resents her parents and other adults and wants to get rid of them. Coming into contact with the unseen alien leader Drill (who the adults think is an imaginary friend) she recruits a group of children to help the aliens invade Earth and kill all the adults, having been promised later bedtimes and that she can watch TV all day, and says the aliens will let her rule as a queen. She bosses the other children around and has them assemble some tools to open a portal to the aliens’ dimension. When a pair of older boys make fun of her (thinking it’s just a game) Mink threatens that they’ll be the first to die. She also tells her mother about her plans but her mother is simply annoyed at her for making a mess around the house.
Later, her mother hears a girl scream and sees a girl running away from the other kids, but Mink denies hurting her and says she was a “scaredy baby.” She continues with her plan to open the portal, which eventually succeeds, and Mink’s parents hear strange noises and hide in their attic, while they hear the aliens come into the house as Mink calls out to her parents. The aliens then blow a hole in the door, and Mink appears and sadistically says “Peek-a-boo!” It’s presumed that her parents were then killed and the aliens took over the Earth as planned.
