Mirror Master is a major antagonist in The Flash comics and media. So far, there has been three criminals to hold the title of Mirror Master.

Biography[]

Samuel Scudder[]

Modern Age[]

Sam Scudder was already a criminal before he gained his powers. While serving time in prison for a burglary-homicide, he was working in a prison workshop, when he accidentally created a mirror that could hold an image for a certain amount of time. After this, he escaped from prison and created numerous mirror gadgets to help with his crime sprees. Calling himself the Mirror Master, Scudder terrorized Central City for years, either on his own, or as a member of the Rogues, only to be foiled by the Flash (who's civilian identity, Barry Allen, was ironically responsible his incarceration in the first place). Like many characters, Scudder was killed during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event.

Like all of The Rogues, Scudder had a huge ego which contributed to the types of crimes he would commit. On one occasion, he broke out of prison simply to regain his No.1 standing in a prison poll over who was The Flash's worst enemy. Shortly before Barry Allen's death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, one of their last meetings had Scudder falling deeply in love with a woman he had contacted in a separate mirror dimension and he planned to give up crime and live there in contentment. Unfortunately, during a fight with Barry, the mirror gateway was smashed beyond repair, causing Scudder to break down in tears and surrender.

The New 52[]

Sam Scudder was a criminal known as Mirror Master, wielding devices allowing him power over reflective surfaces. He was an early member of Central City's Rogues; villains employing themed hi-tech weapons in their crimes. The group was led by Captain Cold, whose sister, Lisa, became Sam's girlfriend. Despite their technology, the Rogues' heists were frequently stopped by The Flash. However, Dr. Darwin Elias offered Captain Cold access to a Genome Recoder to transfer the powers of their weapons into the Rogues' DNA, allowing them to combat the speedster on equal terms. Unfortunately, the device exploded. The Rogues received powers, but Lisa was rendered comatose by the blast.

She gaining the ability to project an astral form, and Scudder was trapped in Mirror World, a dimension lying behind all reflective surfaces. Lisa used her astral-projection powers to allow Sam to emerge from the Mirror World, but this caused her to lose her own astral form. As Captain Cold grew ever more domineering Lisa left, breaking up with Scudder. However, when her brother accepted a destabilizing power boost from Lex Luthor, agent of recently-liberated Multiveral Matron Perpetua, Mirror Master joined rebel Rogues Weather Wizard and Heatwave in helping Lisa and The Flash confront "King Cold". Trapped in the Mirror World, a realm that lies within all reflective surfaces, he can see out of any mirror and take people into this realm, where he has complete control.

George Harkness[]

For a brief period of time, Scudder's fellow rouge Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang used the Mirror Master alias and gear to commit crimes while on the Suicide Squad. Harkness soon quit using the Mirror Master alias after being caught and handed to Amanda Waller, who then tricked him into a fake assault scene where he was forced to constantly switch between his Mirror Master and Captain Boomerang identities.

Evan McCulloch[]

Another character called Mirror Master is a Scottish mercenary and criminal named Evan McCulloch. Originally a non-powered merc, McCulloch was given Scudder's costume and equipment by a consortium of the US government. Though he first targeted the superhero Animal Man, McCulloch eventually turned his attentions to the then current Flash, Wally West, and has been a thorn in his side since.

Powers and Abilities[]

Mirror Master has complete control over mirrors and the Mirror World. He can create portals using any reflective surface, such as windows or ice, into which he, others, and objects may pass. He controls access to these portals, and is able to trap people in reflections. He is able to generate mirrors of varying size that he can then use for various effects; his mirrors can be used to project holograms or illusions, for communication, and to hypnotize or mentally affect people who pass through them, amongst other uses. He is also quite intelligent, as he was able to discover these properties in mirrors and to create the relevant weaponry on his own. He is a skilled thief. Using the special mirrors he creates, Mirror Master is able to do many things. One of the various things he can do is travel to other dimensions.

Mirror Master appears in the Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show episode "Reflections in Crime", voiced by Casey Kasem.
He then appears in Justice League Unlimited voiced by Alexis Denisof. In the show he is a member of the Rogues and the Legion of Doom.
Mirror Master appears in The Batman, voiced by John Larroquette. In the episode "A Mirror Darkly", where he kidnaps Gotham's richest people but is foiled by Batman, Robin, and Flash. He later appears in the episode "Lost Heroes" where Flash and Green Arrow attack him at an amusement park mirror house and is defeated when Green Arrow shoots an arrow at his mirror.
Mirror Master later appears in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster", where he is shown in flashback holding Batman and Flash captive and trying to kill them with a laser but is defeated when Flash uses his mirror to reflect the laser. He also appears in the episode "Four Star Spectacular", where he traps Flash in a mirror maze and makes glass clones of himself. He nearly beats him, however, Abra Kadabra gives Flash a hint which leads him to the real one and his clones and maze shatter when he is knocked out. In this show, he was voiced by Tom Kenny.
Mirror Master appears in a skit in the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special, where he and the Riddler bully Sinestro into shaving his mustache. He was voiced by Breckin Meyer.

The Flash (1990 TV series)[]

Sam Scudder appears in 1990–1991 TV Series The Flash, portrayed by David Cassidy. Scudder is a professional thief who is an expert at using mirrors and holograms to commit crimes earning him the nickname, Mirror Master. In the episode "Done with Mirrors", he steals a crystal from S.T.A.R. Labs and attempts to kill his ex-partner Stasia Masters, a high school girlfriend of Barry Allen, aka The Flash. With help from Tina McGee, Barry uses a high-powered spotlight to blind Scudder and drown out his illusions, allowing the Flash to capture him.

Mirror Master (Sam Scudder) appears in the third season of the Arrowverse TV show The Flash, while a gender-swapped version of Mirror Master, Eva McCulloch, appears in the sixth season and seventh season as a major antagonist.

Justice League: Doom[]

Mirror Master appears in the animated film Justice League: Doom, voiced again by Alexis Denisof. He is a member of Vandal Savage's Legion of Doom and sent to kill the Flash, but fails. In the final battle, he fights the Flash again and is defeated.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox[]

Mirror Master is an antagonist in the 2013 animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. He appears alongside several of the Rogues attacking the Flash before being betrayed by Professor Zoom. He is saved from a bomb by Green Lantern and Batman.

Mirror Master appears alongside several of the Rogues as a boss in Stryker's Island Penitentiary Alert. He was voiced by Brandon Young.

Injustice: Gods Among Us[]

Mirror Master makes a cameo appearance in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
