Mister Madera is an evil spirit called tsukomogami, that possesses an inanimate object upon it being abandoned by its owners, after spending 100 years old. He/It appears as a supporting antagonist in the Legend Quest television series, attacking people who lurk secretly to serve with their souls; transforming them into wooden dolls.

Overview[]

Initially believed by Leo to just be a harmless (if creepy looking) puppet when he first purchases him. Actually as a Tsukumogami, an inanimate object that comes to life on its hundredth birthday, that feeds on the souls of the living and dead, turning them into dolls afterwards. It turned all of Leo's friends into dolls and very nearly turned Leo into one too. Even without the soul sucking powers, Mister Maderas is terrifyingly fast and smart. It makes sure to dismantle the ship, with an ax no less, just to make it easier to steal its prey's souls.

Mister madera legend quest

While not appearing to be as inherently cruel as Quetzalcoatl, Baba Yaga, Medusa, or The Vodnik, Mister Madera is by far the darkest "monster of the week" to appear on the show for the various reasons described in his character tropes. After showing Leo that he's defeated the Sugar Skulls and drained their souls, Mister Madera makes this to Leo, signifying that he's next.

Biography[]

Legend Quest[]

First, Marcella throws Mister Madera overboard. According to Leo, Mister Madera was found in a mysterious antique shop. Leo makes Mister Madera talk like any human would do with a normal ventriloquist dummy. And this is before the puppet turns out to actually be alive. Moments later, he suddenly reappears in Leo's room. Leo then tries hiding the dummy from Alebrije, stuffing it in a sock drawer, then tries showing it to him after growing suspicious due to Teodora suddenly "disappearing", and a doll of her appearing afterwards. Mister Madera suddenly disappears from the sock drawer, only for Leo and Alebrije to quickly find him standing on the bed above. After consuming the souls of his teammates and the Sugar Skulls, Mister Madera very nearly succeeds in draining Leo's soul as well. Up on the watchtop, Leo remained safe but terrified as he was the only survivor of the doll's curse.

After a brief conversation he had with a talking ham (since it was really haunted), took courage and stop the ravages committed by Mister Madera, so he lowered the mast to prevent the ship from falling into an active volcano. Silently the young boy descends the mast to the deck moving his way toward the lifeboats, since Mister Madera was chasing him. The puppet, following the trail of the Leo, goes down to verify what had entered the boat but it comes off the safety moving away from the ship, and lightening the weight of it to prevent it from falling into volcano crater. With the doll inside the boat, Leo takes advantage of cutting the ropes that raise it. Leo, taking time to cut the ropes with a knife, the doll realized where he was and slowly approached him, but managed to cut the ropes: causing the boat to fall into the lava with the doll, while Leo kept safe with the balloons in the air. Once the doll is destroyed, his head appears in Leo's hands: throwing it to the ground and trampling it until it breaks, that's when Leo's friends return to normal.

Masters of Myth[]

Mister madera returns

Mister Madera attacking Leo in Masters of Myth.

Makes a reappearance in Episode 3 of Masters of Myth, captured by Marcella's Team Legend but probably with difficulty given how he is. Shockingly in Episode 5 of Masters of Myth, Mister Madera, despite having his lower body destroyed, manages to fake his death long enough for Team Legend to drop their guard, after which, he turns all four of them into dolls or so it appears until Episode 6 reveals that once again, The Sugar Skulls have been the Spanner in the Works that defeated the Tsukumogami. Alebrije then whittled dolls of the four to fool Brother Grace and Brother Upton. In the episode 13 the doll was trapped inside a box and without legs in it, so Marcela threatened MacGuffin to open it if he refused to repair the senergy draining machine.

Trivia[]

  • It is not clear how he has survived the fall of the volcano. It is likely that the Tsukumogami spirit has possessed another similar puppet, or it is a different one.
  • Is the only previous antagonist to return in person on the second season alongside Fenrir.
