Mitori Kouzaku is a major character in the A Certain Magical Index franchise.
A young girl who acts as a liaison between MEMBER and the Board of Directors, Kouzaku is a former test subject in the Clone Dolly project and is the childhood friend of Dolly, the prototype Misaka clone. After Dolly's death, Kouzaku becomes obessed with taking revenge on the Board Chairman of Academy City, Aleister Crowley, and decides to help Gensei Kihara in his schemes.
She is voiced by Miyu Tomita in Japanese and Rachel Michelle Thompson in English
Appearance[]
Mitori is a young girl with purple-colored hair styled in twin tails and purple eyes. As a child, her hair was worn short until it fell down on both sides of her head.
In her debut, she wore a pink nurse uniform which resembles something akin to a dominatrix's outfit, containing various skull-themed accessories. She also wore a pair of dark-colored hosiery and pink pumps as well as grey stockings. She also has a riding crop on her person, further lending to the dominatrix appearance.
Following her reunion with Dolly, Mitori is currently seen wearing a black blazer which she leaves unbuttoned as well as a white shirt underneath. She also has a white skirt, white long socks and dark shoes. In Mental Out, Mitori also wore a skintight black catsuit which she doesn't bother to fully zip up.
Personality[]
Mitori Kouzaku is shown to be a rather cheerful and friendly person despite being a member of the Dark Side of Academy City. She behaves eternally cheery because she has been in the Dark Side so long she has become desensitized to it. She particularly objects to those who live normal lives in Academy City despite it's many injustices, deeming them as "oddities". She also enjoys cosplaying.
Beneath her jovial demeanor, Mitori is extremely vengeful and ruthless. Her main goal is to kill Aleister Crowley for his role in what happened to Dolly. Unfortunately for her, Aleister is so far above her he might as well be an untouchable god, and the reason she joined forces with Gensei Kihara is because she wanted to use the burgeoning Level 6 Mikoto to destroy the Windowless Building and Aleister. She considers the deaths of everyone else in Academy City as acceptable sacrifices to achieve this.
As a child, Mitori acted cheerful even though she could not stand the researchers because it made them trust and underestimate her. It was only around Dolly did those smiles become genuine. Mitori is shown to be incredibly protective and affectionate towards Dolly, seeing her to be her only true friend. After reuniting with Dolly and working for Misaki Shokuhou, Mitori becomes considerably more serious and professional, acting in a business-like manner and occasionally displays signs of her cheerful behavior, mostly when she's around Dolly.
Biography[]
Mitori Kouzaku was a test subject of the Clone Dolly project. While there, she was normally behaving happy and jovial out of fear of the researchers. One day, she met a girl named Dolly, who immediately takes a liking to her and calls her "Mii-chan". Mitori also grew to love Dolly as well, due to her being the first person to make her smile genuinely. However, she accidentally discovered that Dolly was a clone and was living on life support. Not only that, by investigating further she discovered Dolly would soon die because of the experiments she was part of shortening her already limited lifespan. She tried to confront the researchers with this, threatening to make the information public, but she was beaten and taken away from Dolly, her life only being spared because of her ability being useful for future experiments.
Eventually, Mitori learns that Dolly had died and the Exterior Project was shutdown. After Dolly's death months later, Mitori swore revenge on Academy City, specifically it's ruler, Aleister Crowley, who she deemed as the source of all evil. She tried to assassinate Aleister, but her attempt failed and she was captured and sent to the Reformatory. She was eventually broken out by Gensei Kihara, who recruited her for his plans by promising her a chance to get revenge on Academy City for what had happened to Dolly.

Liquid Shadow: Mitori's Level 4 esper power which allows her to control liquids with a specific gravity of 20 or greater. In order to use it, Mitori usually carries liquefied metal with her. She is able to manipulate the liquid metal in a wide vareity of ways.
- Liquid Shadow Puppet: Mitori commonly uses her ability to create a humanoid doll out of liquid metal. This puppet is capable of manipulating its body parts to create weapons which can be as sharp and agile as a butterfly knife and slice walls and metal easily. The doll is apparently impervious to electricity and conventional physical attacks, which will go right through its liquid body. The puppet can also hold objects inside its body and can propel them outside, as when Mitori made it throw a knife hidden inside it to give Kuroko a lethal blow. Mitori can control her doll from several hundred kilometers away, but can not see through it. In order to make up for that limitation, the doll wears a skull-shaped camera around its neck. Should the camera be destroyed Mitori can still perceive the surroundings of the doll using a type of echolocation to detect heartbeats within a few dozen meters of her puppet. In order to widen her field of view, Mitori will also often try to hack the cameras surrounding the battlefield. Mitori can create and control up to 1000 dolls at once if she has sufficient metal.
- Devil Girl: Aside from making dolls of the liquid metal, Mitori can also use Liquid Shadow to give herself devil horns, bat wings and a pointy tail made out of liquid metal. She can freely move those, making them potent weapons and defense when it comes to close quarter combat.
- Metal Cloud: Mitori can transport a lot of liquid metal by filling it with plenty of air and parking up at high altitude as a cloud. She could then have it condense and pour down like rain when she needed it. By having 1000 tons of this liquid metal rain down from an altitude of 10 000 meters she can create a devastating attack.
Exterior: Mitori could use the Exterior to access Misaki Shokuhou's Mental Out ability, allowing her to manipulate Mikoto Misaka's thoughts in order to guide Mikoto's psyche with her subconscious who has been forced to become a level 6.
Absolute Leaf: Mitori is able to use the esper ability of the previous 1st-ranked Level 5 esper through the Relic. It allows her to create Shadow Metal, a unique substance, by consuming an esper's powers as well as cause the area's temperature to drop drastically. To activate the ability, Mitori invokes the command "Throttle". The relic also allows her to neutralize an effect from the other Relic's power, and manifests three vaguely-insectoid limbs from the right side of her back. When the two relics clash, it is able to spatially distort the enviorment and even open up dimensions, as shown when it briefly exposed the Imaginary Number District.
Abilities[]
Hacking Expertise: Mitori carries a tablet that she can use to hack or control small flying drones through wireless communication. These drones can use a rope to bind enemies.
