Mitsuo Kubo is a major antagonist in Persona 4. He is the first suspect that the Investigation team encounters and is quickly suspected of the murders of Ms. Yamano, Saki Konishi, and Mr. Morooka by the police and the protagonists.
Appearance[]
Mitsuo is an unusual looking kid in the small town of Inaba. He looks ominous with his eyes having no irises, with it being pure black and wears average school clothing. His school clothing consist of a white plane shirt underneath a black coat with a green necktie added to it. On his coat is the symbol of his school but it's not stated what school it is in the game but its mention to be a rival school of Yasogami High School. He also has a mole on the right side of his face.
While being in the TV world, he wears an orange, video game-themed shirt, blue pants, and green sneakers.
Personality[]
Mitsuo is an unstable, mentally ill, delusional teen that is willing to do anything to gain the attention of others with it being good or bad. He's very self-centered and is often ranting about any topic that comes to mind when he's talking to people or himself. According to Yukiko, when he stoped by her shop he started to talk to her but describes him as a person that consistently talks non-stop. Though she tolerates people like that, she couldn't for Mitsuo basically describing him to be annoying. Throughout the game, he is shown to be a little creepy and a aggressive towards others mostly when he is interacting with Yukiko. When the Protagonist first meet him, he is seen creeping near the entrance of the high school and suddenly ask Yukiko to go out with him even though she does not known him. He then quickly runs off when two students see him and starts talking about him. In the Persona 4 animation, He is much more aggressive when talking to Yukiko, to the point of grabbing her hand and arguing with Nanoko at the Junes supermarket over two packs of tamago almost grabbing her in the process. Other examples consist of him going through uncontrollable anger. In the anime, there's a scene where Mitsuo is seen arguing with people on the internet, constantly telling them that he is the killer but they respond to him with a joke. This shows his very delusional behavior slowly to think that he actually murdered Ms. Yamano and Saki, even after he killed Yasogami highs infamous teacher Kinshiro Morooka and place him the same way that is similar to the other murders.
Later on, when he is placed in the TV world and meets his shadow he starts an argument with him, claiming that the shadow is a fake and he is the true killer. At the same time, he does not understand the world he is in and the situation he brought to himself. His shadow reveals his emptiness and likely his lack of value in life viewing itself to be nothing, showing that Mitsuo holds negative self-esteem towards himself. This is only because many people ridicule him base on his appearance, which causes his social isolation and having no friends. He lashes out at anyone that tries to comfort him including towards his own shadow, which he still rejects causing it to disappear, showing that his delusions are very powerful and negatively affected his connection to reality.

Trivia[]
- The name, Mitsuo, means "beautiful" and "hero" in Kanji, possibly referencing Mitsuo's zombie-like appearance and his self-esteem issues.
- There are several hints in the game that Mitsuo is not the true killer.
- it's point out that the killer had to be very strong to put someone like Kanji into the TV.
- In his dungeon, the game text says that he defeated Ms. Yamano and Saki but killed Morooka.
- It gets further when the same text does not refer to them by their names but instead refer them as "TV announcer" and "corpse discoverer."
- There was no mention of Kanji, Yukiko, and Rise in his dungeon and when being confronted he does not seem to recognized them.
- His shadow has a normal boss battle music which is "I'll face myself."
- It is never mention how did he get into the TV world and have a shadow at the same time despite being the killer. Mitsuo never explain how he get there and does not seem to understand the TV world at all.
- Unlike Adachi and Namatame, Mitsuo is the only suspect in the game that never redeems himself and understand the harm he has caused. He never broke out from his delusional behavior and was never treated sympathetically in the story.
- He is even less redeemable in the animated adaptation, where he is portrayed much worse.
