Mjölnir is a major antagonist in A Certain Magical Index: New Testament, serving as the main antagonist of the Homecoming Arc, and a supporting antagonist in the Ichihanaran Festival Arc and Magic God Othinus Arc.
She is a core member of GREMLIN who physically appears as a spiritual item after having her body optimized into various forms of the legendary hammer of the same name. She is the bodyguard of Marian Slingeneyer and also acts as a source of power for Thor, increasing his power and giving him access to most of his magic.
Appearance[]
Mjölnir's original appearance isn't known, but apparently she was described as a young girl.
Mjölnir has many different forms, but she mainly takes the form of a cylindrical piece of stone with a diameter of 55 cm and a height of about a meter. Her other forms includes a sphere, a cube and finally a flat plane in the shape of a cross into a hammer. Mjölnir appears to communicate and recite spells by having countless sets of human lips both large and small appeared on its surface.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Mjölnir's personality, however, she is extremely loyal to Marian Slingeneyer, obeying her, protecting her when she is downed, and is willing to attack anyone who harms her, such as Thor. She is shown to genuinely care about Marian, viewing her as a trusted friend and always expressing concern for her mental health. Despite being a drum, Mjölnir is still able to communicate by forming several mouths along her surface or vibrating and shaking her body around.
She is also somewhat ruthless, as she was willing to drop Radiosonde Castle on Academy City to eliminate Touma Kamijou as a threat to Gremlin, paying no attention to great amount of destruction and death it would cause. In the past, Mjölnir was apparently quite power hungry, gathering a great deal of power for an unknown purpose only losing it all after the shift of power after World War III. With the reason to obtain strength gone, Mjölnir continued to gain power and go on a destructive path.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
Mjölnir-related powers: Like her name suggests, Mjölnir is heavily associated with Thor, the god of thunder, agriculture, weather, and terrain. As such, Mjölnir represents the vestiges of Thor's power over agriculture and farming before he became a mere god of thunder. Each of her forms symbolizes an aspect of his power as the convenient tool that could be used for many different tasks. She is described as a rare and versatile spiritual tool that can be used for anything, rare enough that the entire magic side could easily fight over her.
- Shapeshifting: Besides her cylinder form, Mjölnir can shift between a variety of forms like a sphere, a cube or a flat plane cross-like hammer. She can also create countless human mouths to talk and chant spells, and separate herself into a large number of smaller flying cubes to flee.
- Immense Durability: Mjölnir is shown to be incredibly durable, being strong enough to take a kick from Kaori Kanzaki, a Saint, without any relative problems. As a sphere, she could slam into Kanzaki hard enough to knock the wind out of her.
- Weapon Deployment: Mjölnir can deploy several weapons from within her body. For example, she can open up like a pair of double doors, revealing a giant crossbow inside of her that fires a stake-like projectile as thick as human arm. She can also open up to reveal a row of several matchlock guns.
- Lightning Manipulation: After forming several mouths that chant a spell in unison, Mjölnir can release a sphere-shaped storm of bluish-white lightning in every direction with a radius of 400 meters.
- Power Link: Thor can borrow Mjölnir's power by making a link with her, apparently regardless of distance, significantly increasing his power.
- The Throwing Hammer: Mjölnir starts flying in a giant circle that has a radius of 20 km, with bluish-white sparks flying along her trail as she builds up electricity. She increases her speed, which rapidly moves up like the curve of a quadratic function. In a few seconds her actual form disappears from view, leaving only a giant bluish-white glowing circle visible. Then, a bluish-white beam of light is brought down, destroying everything in a few kilometers radius. This attack was capable of destroying a third of the Radiosonde Castle to an extent not even dust remained. She can also cast this spell horizontally.
- Volcanic Energy Absorption: She can also absorb, store, and exude volcanic energy, making her one of the most important components in Gremlin's plan to create Gungnir. It is unknown if she can absorb other forms of energy.
