Mo Cavella, also known as Auntie Mo, is a villain in The Punisher MAX. She is the overarching antagonist of the volumes "In the Beginning" and "Up is Down and Black is White". She is the abusive aunt of Nicky Cavella who is responsible for her nephew growing up the monster that he became.
Biography[]
Auntie Mo was the sister of Johnny Cavella, the head of the Cavella crime family. Mo despised her brother, who she didn't think had the balls to be a crime boss, and wished to take over the family in his place. She manipulated Nicky, who was eight years old at the time, into murdering his parents and twelve-year-old sister and framing his uncle for the crime. Mo then assumed control of the family and adopted Nicky, promising to reward her "little soldier".
Over time, Mo groomed Nicky into becoming a ruthless psychopath like her so that she could make him into a mob soldier. She subjected the preteen boy to extreme sexual abuse, forcing him to have sex with her repeatedly until he became a teenager. Nicky was also forced by Auntie Mo to take part in her criminal activities. On one of his birthdays, Nicky's "present" from his aunt was a kidnapped bar owner who had failed to pay his debts to Mo. Mo told Nicky to kill the unfortunate man, leaving the two in the basement with a sardonic "happy birthday".
Eventually, the now-teenage Nicky was unable to tolerate Mo's sexual abuse any longer. The day he became a made man, he smothered his aunt with a pillow as the two of them had sex. Mo tried to fight back, clawing at his face and arms hard enough to draw blood, but she didn't have the strength to fight him off. Years later, Nicky still despised his late aunt's memory, reserving special contempt for her in his misanthropic rants and referring to her as a "fat f*cking c*nt".
