Moa, also known as Angolmois, is the main antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: Nobita Drifts in the Universe. A mysterious hooded figure who acts as Commander Liebert's advisor, he is in truth a powerful, psychic entity who is not only responsible for brainwashing Liebert and his troops into obeying his will, but also arguably the embodiment of the lurking malice in all of sentient beings in the universe.
He was voiced by the late Kenji Utsumi, who would go on to voice Dolmanstein and Black Mask in Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur 2006.
Appearance[]
Moa in his disguised appearance is a skeletal-looking robot clad in a black robe that conceals his entire features, save for his glowing red eyes.
In his true form, Moa appears as a light green slime, which is eventually revealed during the confrontation in Lian's ship. At that time however, he forms a crude body made of Freya's collection of Earth items which he eventually sheds away when it is too large for the corridor as he chases the gang.
Personality[]
While posing as his advisor, Moa puts up a facade of master manipulator who gives Commander Liebert advice to instigate an invasion on Earth to colonize it. In reality however, he merely hypnotized Liebert and his soldiers into doing his bidding, meaning Moa is the de-facto commander of the invasion. He's also very sadistic, enjoying seeing Liebert shooting the latter's son Lian, and taking delight when thinking that he has crushed the heroes. He also lacks empathy, shown when he orders Freya to break down Lian's spaceship just to cause the main characters to be stuck on a hallucinating planet forever, and prevent Lian from rescuing them, all so they wouldn't intervene with his plans.
Owing to his proposed true nature as the collective manifestation of sentient beings' malice however, Moa's desire to colonize Earth has never been out of concern for the Gaians either, but to satisfy himself in causing wanton destruction on the planet he would dominate before moving on to the next.
History[]
Proposed to be the embodiment of sentient beings' collective malice, Moa had been around since the birth of all life in the universe and therefore immortal. It's unclear whether this means he came from a dimension where emotions of lifeforms (negative ones in particular) given physical forms or a never-before-seen anomaly with similar nature somewhere in outer space, but regardless, he appeared before Commander Liebert some time after the death of his wife, drawn by his sorrow and exploited it in a bid to hypnotize him along with his troops into becoming his puppets while acting as Liebert's advisor.
Upon learning that Lian and his friends are going to explore Earth for adventure, Moa sends the fairy Freya to spy on them while acting as their new friend. When the main protagonists join Lian's crew, Moa orders Freya to breaks down Lian's spaceship so they would be stuck on a hallucinating planet forever. After they escapes, the ship is attacked by many 'live meteors' until Liebert's ships rescue it. Upon meeting the heroes, Moa reveals that Freya has spied on them under his orders all along and has them imprisoned. However, they escape the prison and are aided by a changed Freya, who then joins them as their new friend for real, much to Moa's anger.
Due to this, Moa accelerates the invasion on Earth and forces Liebert to follow his advice. The main protagonists would then aid Lian in fighting against Moa's forces, forcing him to activate his spacecraft's main spaceship. Thinking that he has crushed the heroes, Moa celebrates right before Nobita, Doraemon, Lian and Freya confront him and convince Liebert to free himself from Moa's control. Moa hypnotizes Lian into thinking that he's his mother, but Nobita's magical fruit snaps him out of it. Moa then orders Liebert to shoot Lian, but the Commander, having snapped out of the devilish advisor's hypnotization, shoots Moa instead, causing him to fall into the ground below and seemingly dead. When the heroes unmask him, they find out that he apparently is a skeletal robot, causing Doraemon to wonder who created him.
However, Moa is later revealed to be still alive and possess Freya's Earth item collections, forming it into a new crude body and chase the heroes. He also reveals that the robotic body is created by him via junks in a garbage yard. When they go through a corridor, his new body is proved to be too large, forcing him to extract his true form from it, revealing that he's, in truth, a green slime. Doraemon then freezes him and sends him to a black hole, sealing the malevolent entity away for good.

Trivia[]
- Since the film was inspired by Star Wars, Moa was inspired by Emperor Palpatine, as they're both supernatural embodiments of evil wearing black robes who manipulate a main character's father into doing their biddings, taking advantage of the latter's grief over the death of his wife to do so.
- In addition of being inspired by Palpatine, Moa was also inspired by Hyuza from Star Musketeer Bismark as well, particularly in how he is a black cloaked figure who turns out to be an ancient alien being controlling a robot body, rallying his subordinates to take over Earth allegedly to make it their new home planet but in truth only to satisfy his desire to destroy all life. His appearance also resembles Hyuza.
- True nature and origin-wise however, Moa shares much in common with Negativitron from Little Big Planet 2 , Nothing from The Neverending Story, the accumulated malice within Orb of Caldea from Marchen Awakens Romance series, and Don Armage from Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. All of them are sentient amalgamation of negative emotions in the universe and very dangerous because of both their nature and inherent malice.
- Out ot aforementioned villains, Don Armage is similar to Angolmois first because they appear as hooded figured during their debut scene, though similarities in question might be coincidence as Uchu Sentai Kyuranger was released almost 18 years after Doraemon: Nobita Drifts in the Universe.
- Moa's full name, Angolmois, comes from the prophecies of Nostradamus about the reign of the great king of Angolmois, which is interpreted as being an anagram of the Old French word Mongolais 'Mongolians' and thus referring to Genghis Khan.
