~ Minotaur battlecry |
Mogis is a major villain in Magic: The Gathering, primarily on the plane of Theros. The God of Slaughter, Mogis is the divine being of red and black mana on Theros and the dark twin and archenemy of his brother Iroas. While Iroas represents the honorable side of war, victory, and honor itself, Mogis represents the dark side of it; brutality, carnage and violence. He is also the patron God of all Minotaurs on Theros.
Biography[]
Mogis, like all other Gods of Theros, was born from the cosmic realm of Nyx. He came into being at the exact same time as Iroas, not only making them twins, but the only siblings among the Theros Pantheon. Mogis quickly established himself as bloodthirsty powerhouse, who's power has been at a constant high level due to all the bloodshed transpiring across the realm. He would clash with his twin brother frequently, an event that would shatter fields and mountains with their divine might. Due to his appearance, the Minotaurs of Theros worship him as their prime deity, and as such, strive to emulate and appease their God by being a violent band of warmongers, in never ending conflict with the other denizens of the plane.
Mogis sent a horde of minotaurs to attack the city of Akros, but they were intercepted by Elspeth Tirel and her allies. Though the horde was defeated, it was an essential part of Xenagos's plan to ascend into godhood.
Personality[]
Being the divine embodiment of black and red magic on Theros, Mogis is the epitome of violence and destruction. Quite literally being the God of Slaughter, Mogis lives for war, brutal battles being a sweet nectar to him and violent massacres his bread and butter. Mogis can sense the darkness within the mortals of his realm, and can easily manipulate their feelings to violent extremes. War crimes and atrocities while shunned and despised by others, are wholly welcome to Mogis, who in fact encourages such brutality and rewards those who unleash chaos upon the world.
Due to their conflicting polar opposite natures, Mogis and his brother Iroas are constantly at odds with each other. One brother encourages honor, courage and fair play in battle, and the other pain and suffering through any means necessary.
Trivia[]
- Mogis, along with Erebos, can both represent Satanic deities with each their own way. While Erebos represents the much more classical devil and ruler of Hell via Hades, Mogis especially appearance wise of a horned, burning hellspawn, can represent the worst aspects, being the embodiment of murder, cruelty, and able to twist and warp the souls of others to turn them into bloodcrazed fanatics.
- Mogis may be heavily inspired by Khorne; He embodies violence and mayhem, and encourages endless carnage and bloodshed from his followers, followers who's battle cries in his name are very similar to the followers of Khorne.
