Mogranda (モグランダ Moguranda) is a major antagonist in the 1973 Tokosatsu series Zone Fighter, serving as the main antagonist of the episode “Terrifying Attack! The Garoga Robot” and the secondary antagonist (alongside Jikiro) of the episode “Carnage! Zone and Godzilla vs. the Terror-Beast Allied Forces“ He is a cybernetic drill monster created from the fusion of two Garogas.

Biography[]

Terrifying Attack! The Garoga Robot[]

Professor Teramura, his wife, and their son Hiroshi had the horrible misfortune of being part of the Garoga’ evil schemes. Hiroshi was implanted with an ESP transceiver and forced to do their bidding while his parents were tied up and replaced by two silver Garogas disguised as them. Hiroshi was then sent with a toy robot to secretly sabotage the Zone Family's Proton but the scheme was foiled when the Hikaru tossed it outside after being awoken by the noises it was emitting.

After finding Hiroshi out on the street unconscious, the Zone family took him in and eventually discovered the ESP transceiver that was implanted in his brain and correctly come to the conclusion that he was being mind controlled by the Garogas. Over a brief period of time, The family agreed with a plan to track the signals being sent to him in order to find the Garoga's base.

After the The two quickly reach the house of Professor Teramura but are immediately greeted Hikaru by the disguised couple who quickly reveal themselves as Garoga agents. Hikaru and Hotaru then transform into Zone Fighter and Zone Angel respectively, but before they could fight the two agents the two silver Garogas merged into the Terror beast Moguranda.

Zone Fighter initially tried to shoot the monster using his pistol, but Moguranda shrugged it off and countered with a deadly flamethrower from its mouth. Soon after, Zone Fighter grew giant size and fought it in hand-to-hand combat. However, during the fight, the mind-controlled Hiroshi summoned a meteorite to the battlefield which Moguranda promptly destroyed with its eye lightning and sucked up the particles into its mouth, granting it the power to shoot red poison smoke and overpower Zone Fighter.

Moguranda then went on to burn a nearby neighborhood to ash. Fortunately, Zone Junior had been called by Zone Angel for backup and flied in the spaceship Smokey all the way Teremura’s home. With some luck, Junior managed to blow up the place using a bomb, successfully freeing Hiroshi from his mind control and weakening Moguranda. Zone fighter then used this opportunity to use his Meteor Proton Beam on the monster before eventually destroying it with Meteor Missile Might.

Carnage! Zone and Godzilla vs. the Terror-Beast Allied Forces[]

Moguranda would somehow return in this episode, being of the many previous enemies sent by the Garogas that were defeated by Zone Fighter. At first unleashed at the Okutama Mountains, Moguranda and several other monsters were shruken down to tiny size and encased in time capsules, which the Garoga dilerved across a neighborhood and the Okutama Mountains as a means for a surprise attack. Unfortunately for the aliens, the Zone family quikly caught on to their plan and managed to recover the capsules for Moguranda, Shadorah, and Detragon before they could be unleashed.

Trivia[]

  • In supplementary material, it’s revealed that Moguranda has the ability to burrow, but in the series proper, he isn’t shown using this ability.
  • In Moguranda’s second appearance in Episode 25 where it’s encased in a capsule, it’s never revealed whether this Moguranda is a revived version of the one Zone Fighter had fought prior, or if it is some kind of clone made by the Garogas.
