Biography[]
Early Life[]
She is the wife of the wealthy and influential businessman Robert Queen and the mother of their two children, Oliver and Thea. After finding out Oliver accidentally impregnated a girl named Samantha Clayton, Moira bribes her with a 1,000,000$ check to lie to Oliver that she miscarried and to move to Central City. Later, Malcolm Merlyn (whom Moira was having an affair with) forced Moira to help him in his plans by threatening to kill her children.
Season 1[]
At the beginning of the season, Moira is grieving the loss of her husband and her son, who were presumed dead after their yacht sank in the ocean five years ago. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when Oliver is found alive and returns home after being stranded on a deserted island for the past five years. Oliver's return brings to light a series of secrets and conspiracies that Moira had been keeping hidden, which threaten to tear her family and their company apart.
It is revealed that Robert and Moira were involved in a conspiracy to sabotage a humanitarian project in the Glades, a rundown section of Starling City, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. Oliver learns of his father's involvement in the conspiracy through a mysterious notebook that he found on the island, which details Robert's plan to atone for his sins by using his company's resources to right the wrongs he had committed.
Moira becomes aware of the notebook's existence and is fearful that its contents will be exposed, which could lead to the downfall of her family and their company. She attempts to retrieve the notebook by any means necessary, including hiring an assassin to kill Oliver. However, her plans are foiled, and she is forced to come clean to her son about her involvement in the conspiracy.
Season 2[]
At the beginning of the season, Moira is still in prison for her involvement in the Undertaking. When she gets a trial, she personally reveals to Oliver and Thea that she had an affair with Malcolm back when she was still married to their father. When her charges are dropped and she is cleared, she was about to leave in her limo only to be stopped by Malcolm, whom everyone believed was dead. In addition, it's revealed that Malcolm is in fact Thea's biological father. Moira refuses to tell Thea and threatens Malcolm that she told Ra's al Ghaul he's still alive and how he wants to kill him personally, forcing Malcolm to leave her and her family alone.
To atone for her crimes, Moira runs for mayor of Starling City against Sebastian Blood. Felicity Smoak uncovers from Moira's affair with Malcolm that he's Thea's father and tells Oliver, who furiously tells off his mom for lying but promises to keep her secret and still assist in her campaign.
Moira later meets with Slade Wilson, Oliver's old friend-turned-enemy from Lian Yu, unaware of his true colors. When Slade kidnaps Thea, Moira has the entire police department searching for Thea. Thea eventually returns home, but just learned from Slade that she's Malcolm's daughter and is angry at Moira and Oliver for not telling her. Moira reveals to Oliver that she figued out he's the Arrow since the Undertaking, but assures him that she's proud of him for everything he did for Starling City. Unfortunately, the Queens are all kidnapped by Slade who forces Oliver to choose between his mom and his sister, the same choice that got Shado killed in the first place. Moira ultimately sacrifices herself and offers Slade her life if he spares her children. Slade ultimately agrees and kills Moira with his sword, telling her she should have passed this wisdom onto Oliver.
New Multiverse[]
In the new Earth-Prime reality created by Oliver's sacrifice, Moira is still alive since Oliver stopped Slade from killing his mother. She attended Oliver's funeral along with all of Oliver's friends where she and Thea meet Emiko, Oliver's half-sister from their father Robert. Moira welcomes Emiko into the family with open arms and promises she can stay with her and Thea at the Queen Mansion any time she wants.
Personality[]
Moira's actions throughout the season are motivated by her desire to protect her family's interests and legacy, even if it means sacrificing her own morality and ethics. However, her arc also shows her struggling with her guilt and remorse over the lives lost due to her and her husband's actions. Moira is a complex and multifaceted character who is not simply a villain but rather a woman who has made mistakes and is trying to atone for them in her own way.
In addition to her role in the conspiracy, Moira also has to contend with her children's emotional turmoil as they try to navigate their new reality. Oliver's experiences on the island have transformed him into a vigilante who is determined to rid the city of corruption and crime. However, this newfound mission puts him at odds with his mother, who wants him to focus on his responsibilities as a member of the Queen family.
Thea, on the other hand, is struggling with her own demons, including drug addiction and an identity crisis. Moira's attempts to help her daughter are complicated by the fact that Thea is not Robert's biological daughter but rather the result of an affair that Moira had with Malcolm Merlyn, a close family friend. The revelation of Thea's true parentage puts a strain on Moira's relationship with her daughter and highlights the consequences of her past actions.
Throughout the season, Moira is portrayed as a complex and dynamic character who is not easily defined by her actions. While her involvement in the conspiracy and her attempts to cover it up are morally dubious, her love for her family and her desire to protect them are understandable motivations. Moira's story arc in season one is one of redemption, as she comes to terms with her mistakes and tries to make amends for them, even if it means sacrificing her own life to protect her family.
