Mokumokuren was the eye and wall-themed Minor Youkai of the Youkai Army Corps and a minor antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger. He served as the overarching antagonist of the 5th episode and the main antagonist of the 6th episode.
He was played by Masaki Tachi, who previously played Radiguet.

Past[]
Mokumokuren first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed thier own group under the leadership of the most powerful of thier kind; Daimaou. One thousand years ago, Mokumokuren was among the army of Yokai who attacked Ninjaman whilst he defended a village. Mokumokuren was killed and sealed behind the Seal Door but Ninjaman was banished by the Three God Generals as he slaughtered his entire village after mistaking them for Yokai.
Kakuranger[]
Mokumokuren is among the Yokai freed from the Seal Door by Kappa as Sandayuu Momochi watches. He later ambushes Sasuke and Saizou alongside his brother Nurikabe and Azukiarai in a train station although they manage to escape.
Taking up residence in an abandoned mansion, Nurikabe and Mokumokuren capture humans and bet on them to see who can escape their maze first, with the loser giving the winner his gold. Mokumokuren is first seen entering the mansion later than expected, only for the latter to be frustrated when he finds that their maze game has yet to be set up. When offered tea, Nurikabe refuses due to impatience, but Mokumokuren points out that they need patience, so he reluctantly accepts. Using a giant bucket as a spying device, they choose Saizou and his friend Yoichi, with Nurikabe using the bucket to kidnap them. After trapping the two in a fence maze, the two place their bets of ten coins, Nurikabe betting on Yoichi and Mokumokuren betting on Saizou. Eventually, after surviving many traps, Saizou finds the exit, which delights Mokumokuren, who claims all twenty gold pieces. Mokumokuren then meets with Saizou, who he gives a special coin before vanishing. Later, he appears to save Nurikabe from being killed by God Logan God Logan before they both retreat. In the sewers, a badly injured Nurikabe struggles with Mokumokuren as they swear revenge.
Whilst plotting revenge, Nurikabe produces a picture of Tsuruhime as a target, since she is clearly the Kakurangers' leader. Upon seeing her though, Mokumokuren instantly falls in love with Tsuruhime, so they decide the best form of revenge is to brainwash her into loving Mokumokuren and having a legally binding marriage. Meeting her one night, Mokumokuren uses a necklace he and his brother bought under false pretences to place the kunochi under his spell to trick her into a legally binding marriage. After a night of dancing, Mokumokuren traps her in an illusion where she signs the marriage document before taking her to an apartment building where he reveals himself. After Tsuruhime then refuses to wed, they go to an illusionary courtroom, with Nurikabe as presiding judge who tells her that she needs to pay reparations, which consists of him frying her eyes beyond repair. Before this can happen, though, the Kakurangers attack, as Tsuruhime earlier activated her Doron Changer homing beacon. Mokumokuren and Nurikabe fight them with the Dorodoros, but are overwhelmed as Nurikabe is killed by Sasuke on the Shark Machine. An enraged Mokumokuren enlarges himself with the Yokai Lightning Cloud to avenge his brother, so Tsuruhime becomes White Kark, who leaps in and cuts him down. The Kakurangers then become the Giant Beast Generals and form Muteki Shogun, defeating him by crippling him with their Shogun Flower Spray technique before finishing him off with their Blazing Shogun Sword.
A replica of Mokumokuren with a rapier for a right hand is created by Prof Yugami using a child as the Yokai Replica's core to aid Tengu in his attempt to kill the Kakurangers. Kappa fights and easily defeats Tsuruhime before being enlarged with the other clones when Tengu gets impatient. Together, they manage to defeat the Giant Beast Generals after Tengu points out that hurting the Youkai will hurt the children but are no match for the Beast General Fighters. All of the replicas cease to exist once Tengu is slain, restoring thier hosts.
Mokumokuren is recalled by the Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers.
Mokumokuren is seen, along with all the other defeated Yokai, behind the Seal Door after their master Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.
Personality[]
Mokumokuren was initially a very lazy Yokai willing to let Nurikabe do all the hard work and only got involved when he had to. Despite this, he and Nurikabe genuinely loved each other in spite of his brother's pettiness, to the point that Nurikabe's death enraged him into becoming giant. After falling in love with Tsuruhime, he falls hopelessly in love with her, to the point of stalking and kidnapping her for a forced marriage.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Human Form: Mokumokuren could assume the human form of a fancily dressed man with a feathered cap.
- Gender Transformation: By joining hands with Nurikabe and dancing in a circle, Mokumokuren could assume the form of a woman dressed in blue.
- Bilingualism: Mokumokuren could fluently speak both English and Japanese.
- Eye Ninpo: Mokumokuren had dozens of eyes under his cloak which granted him multiple abilities:
- Hypnosis: Mokumokuren could hypnotize people with the eyes under his cloak.
- Eyes Beams: Mokumokuren could fire explosive red energy beams from the numerous eyes under his cloak.
- Eye Projection: Mokumokuren could project a giant version of one of his eyes into the sky and blast red lightning from it which is how he saved Nurikabe.
- Illusion Blast: Mokumenkuren was able to fire a long blue beam from one of his eyes that sent Tsuruhime into an illusion.
- Ninpo: Googly Eyes: Mokumokuren could open his coat to create an illusion of eyes around the Kakurangers which would then blast them with red lightning.
- Headache Pulses: Mokumokuren could fire lasers from his eyes that created energy swirls around his enemies' heads and gave them powerful migraines.
- Smoke-Portation: Mokumokuren was able to appear and disappear through clouds of smoke that he generated.
- Yokai Lightning Cloud Summoning: Mokumokuren was able to summon the Yokai Lightning Cloud to enlarge himself with its Yo Power.
- Object Transformation: Similarly to Kappa before him, Mokumokuren was able to transform a bag of potatoes into cash.
- Boulder Attack: The Mokumokuren Replica was able to summon boulders from around him to strike down Tsuruhime.
- Teleportation: The Mokumokuren Replica could move around the battlefield in a cloud of red energy.
Arsenal[]
- Fists: Mokumokuren had no weapons of his own but could fight off his enemies with his bare hands.
- Water Bucket: Mokumokuren and Nurikabe used a special bucket of water to choose the targets for their games. By swirling their hands in the water, they could kidnap their chosen victims for their game.
- Rapier Arm: The Mokumokuren replica accompanying Tengu had a rapier for a right arm.
