~ Moldorm in Link's Awakening. |
Moldorm, also known as the Big Moldorm, is a supporting antagonist in The Legend of Zelda series, appearing in several of the 2D games.
He is the largest member of the Moldorm species, guarding the Tower of Hera. He also manifests as a Nightmare in the Wind Fish's dream where he aided Dethl in his conquest on Koholint Island while he also appears in Hytopia with a more crustacean appearance.
Biography[]
A Link to the Past[]
Moldorm first appears guarding the Pendant of Wisdom in the Tower of Hera, as well as commanding the smaller Moldorms on Death Mountain. To defeat him, Link must strike his tail with his sword. However, doing so will knock Link back due to the bouncy nature of Moldorm's body. If Link falls into the pit surrounding the boss arena, Moldorm will regain his health and the fight will restart. After being hit enough times, Moldorm will turn red and behave much more aggressively, before being defeated. his defeat grants Link the Pendant of Wisdom.
Link's Awakening[]
Moldorm appears as a Nightmare in the Wind Fish's dream, guarding the Tail Cave and once again commanding smaller Moldorms. The boss battle begins when Link enters his chamber, with Moldorm attacking the hero for being an outsider.
The fight is nearly identical to the one from A Link to the Past, only with a smaller arena and Link has less hearts, meaning death is much more likely. Defeating him will grant Link the Full Moon Cello, which he eventually uses to help wake the Wind Fish.
The 2019 remake removes the bounce physics and bases Moldorm's design on his appearance in A Link Between Worlds.
A Link Between Worlds[]
Moldorm reappears as the boss in the Tower of Hera, this time guarding the Pendant of Power. The fight functions the same as in previous games, only Moldorm gets progressively more aggressive with each hit. Defeating him will grant Link the Pendant of Power.
A stronger, purple Moldorm appears as one of the mini-bosses in Lorule Castle later on, serving Yuga and Princess Hilda. Several more appear in the Treacherous Tower, a battle minigame.
Tri Force Heroes[]
Moldorm appears in the Fire Temple with a crusteacean appearance. He makes sharper turns and chases after the Links one at a time, his eyes indicating which color Link he is pursuing. As he takes more damage, Moldorm behaves more aggressively before eventually lifting his tail off the ground, forcing the Links hop on top of each other in order to strike it. Defeating him grants the Links treasure chests and different materials for creating items.

Trivia[]
- After seeing Moldorm in A Link Between Worlds, many fans nicknamed him "Burgerdorm" due to him resembling a hamburger with lettuce. Needless to say, "Burgerdorm"'s reappearance in the 2019 Link's Awakening remake was celebrated.
- Because of how easy it is to be bumped off the platform by Moldorm and exiting the boss room refilling his health, many A Link to the Past players find that a major nuisance when fighting that boss. In A Link Between Worlds, Moldorm does not refill his health when Link is knocked off the platform.
