Later, in the ceremony pit, the Mole King was there waiting for his bride. While Godfrey was in charge of preparing the wedding, Daniel arrives with Thumbelina carrying a bouquet of flowers, then the king grabs her and when it was about to continue, Tom (who along with the help of Albertine and Leola went to Thumbelina's rescue) intervenes at the wedding and claims that Thumbelina loves him instead. The Mole King upon discovering him, orders his 'minions' to go after him, but no voice could be heard from any mole, the Mole King ordered again to his 'minions', but Thumbelina, fed up with the Mole King's nonsense, takes a monocle from Daniel, and places it on the giant mole's left eye so he could find out the truth by himself. The king realizes what is happening and finally manages to see everything, mentioning how pretty Thumbelina is, how short Tom is and insults Godfrey and Daniel calling them two very unlucky moles, however he is still determined to marry Thumbelina, so he knocks Tom down and kidnaps Thumbelina and then abandons and betrays Godfrey and Daniel, while Tom goes after him.

Godfrey and Daniel, not knowing which direction to go to attempt a rescue, end up running into Leola who decides to teach them a lesson. Meanwhile, the Mole King releases Thumbelina and sinks Thumbelina himself with him, she begs him not to leave her in the darkness and the king responds that he will come to love her as much as he does and that the need for light could be with each other now and forever, also stating that she will end up accepting being a reject like him, to which Thumbelina firmly denies. Suddenly a hole below is dug to reveal an exhausted Godfrey and Daniel and Tom with a needle to rescue Thumbelina. The King upon seeing Thumbelina escape with Tom, gets angry and orders her to stay and threatens to attack her, however Tom makes a quick move, snatches the monocle from his eye and tramples it while the king was looking for it, causing even more his anger at seeing that his passion of seeing had vanished, he lets out a roar of fury and chases both Thumbelina, Tom, Godfrey and Daniel, whose help them escape.

Trivia[]

  • Although the Mole King is not an original character that appears in the original story of Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen, he may have taken inspiration from Mr. Mole and Grundel the Frog from Don Bluth's 1994 film adaptation of Thumbelina.
  • At some point in the film, it is mentioned that Leola and the Mole King had dated during their youth years ago, so it is likely that Mole King had a romantic relationship before being abandoned.
