Harvey Rupert Elder, better known as Mole Man, is the secondary antagonist of the 2006 superhero television series Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes.
He was a human scientist who was shunned for his monstrous appearance and forced to live underground. Here, he took control of a species of subterranean creatures known as the Moloids and begun plans to destroy the surface world for their treatment of him. This has made him a frequent enemy of the Fantastic Four.
He was voiced by Paul Dobson, who also voiced Doctor Doom in the same series, D-Structs in Dinotrux, and Naraku and Tankor in the English dub of Inuyasha.
Appearance[]
Fitting with his namesake, Mole Man is rather short and stout, and he has large black fingernails resembling claws. He has black spiky hair, and his skin is a sicky green. For attire, Mole Man wears a baggy, olive green robe with grey cloth on the midsection. He also has a long, tan scarf and a cape, which is black on the outside and purple on the inside. Additionally, Mole Man's eyes are covered by a thin, grey visor.
Personality[]
Mole Man is characterized by an unbridled hatred of humanity. Because of his poor experiences with them, he sees humans as worthless and has even tried to destroy the entire human race. Beyond his villainous tendencies, he can form compassionate relationships with others, such as his Moloids, whom he calls his children. He also showed sympathy to Ben Grimm.
Mole Man also shows very high intelligence, as he used to be a scientist and presumably created his staff himself. Despite this, he can occasionally be incompetent and foolish, sometimes causing heroes and other villains to mock him.
Trivia[]
- Mole Man's first appearance, "De-Mole-ltion," seems to have been retconned, with "Molehattan" being treated as the first time he met the Fantastic Four. This could also explain his change in attitude to his Moloids, as he is much crueler to them in his debut compared to other episodes.
- Mole Man serves as a dark parallel of Ben Grimm.
- Both of them were seen as monsters for their appearances. However, Ben rose above the hatred to become a hero, whereas Mole Man succame to it and turned into a villain. Thus, Mole Man represents what Ben would have become had he turned on humanity for their treatment of him.
