You didn't just see my penis, did you?
~ Mole Man to Pim and Charlie.

Mole Man is the titular main antagonist of the eponymous Smiling Friends episode. He's a penis-insecure naked mole-rat living beneath Smiling Friends Inc. who kidnaps Pim and Charlie due to his deranged obsession with them.

He was voiced by British animator David Firth, who's best known for creating the animated web series Salad Fingers.

Appearance[]

He is a rather ugly-looking humanoid who resembles a naked mole-rat. He wears no clothes and is hairless, with warts on his head and pale pink skin. He has two long, yellow front teeth, three toes on each foot, and sharp yellow nails. He also has a "disgusting" penis that isn't actually so according to Pim, Charlie and Maurine, and especially Allan.

Personality[]

Mole Man is an eccentric character who is deeply insecure about his penis, believing it to be disgusting. He is also fanatical about Pim and Charlie, even kidnapping them to force them to act out their jobs. He also has a wrathful side, destroying his room and attempting to kill the two and when they rebuff him. After meeting Maurine, Mole Man is no longer obsessed with Pim and Charlie and focuses his attention toward his new family.

Biography[]

Background[]

Mole Man lives in his "Mole Hole," a cave beneath Smiling Friends Inc. After the building was first erected, Mole Man was nearly driven mad by listening to Pim and Charlie all day. However, he eventually grew accustomed to them and became obsessive. As a result, he began digging under the town to stalk the two wherever they went.

"Mole Man"[]

Pim and Charlie fall into a sinkhole in the break room and find themselves tied up in Mole Man's cave, surrounded by pictures of themselves. He explains his obsession and reveals that he couldn't greet them on the surface because everyone would see his "disgusting penis" about which he is highly insecure. He then shows them a makeshift version of the Smiling Friends office that he built and forces them to act out a funny scene with their classic "realistic dialogue." He brings in a fake Mr. Boss who announces that they have a job to go on. Mole Man then pushes Pim and Charlie through a tunnel into a new room, where he acts as a client needing help about his penis insecurity.

When Charlie refuses to comment on it, Mole Man rages and thrashes around the room. Pim and Charlie escape from their chairs, but Mole Man chases them through the tunnels, trying to kill them. They eventually reach Maurine's house, where Allan and Glep are present, and Mole Man threatens to kill all four. However, when Maurine returns home and Mole Man accidentally reveals his penis, she claims that she loves it. The two then plan to marry, and Mole Man becomes the father of their Triplets. After seeing it, Charlie and Pim agree that his penis isn't so bad, though Allan takes it step further and claims it looked delicious.

Trivia[]

  • He is the third character to have the same name as his debut episode, the other two being Mr. Frog and Silly Samuel.
  • Mole Man is the second character who wasn't technically a client to successfully smile and have the corresponding musical cue play; the first was Oscar.
  • Photos of Pim and Charlie from nearly every prior episode (excluding "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back", "The Smiling Friends Go to Brazil!", "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)", "Silly Samuel", and "Le Voyage Incroyable de Monsieur Grenouille") are pinned on the walls of Mole Man's cave. In several of these, Allan, Mr. Boss, and Shrimp are present; they are either cropped out or scribbled out in black marker.
    • Flashbacks to previous episodes "Shrimp's Odyssey", "Who Violently Murdered Simon S. Salty?" and "Pim Finally Turns Green" are also shown when Mole Man explains the backstory of how he came to love Pim and Charlie, as he was apparently present during all of them.
