You are brave, and you are a fool, whore. You challenge Moloch the mighty with your little rebellion. Ab-Leshal, the First Sword of Daevon himself could not even defeat me, and you will attempt with nothing more than a cooking knife? Foolishness on top of foolishness. I have called your name, Mary-Ann Lewitt, and you are mine.

Moloch is an overarching antagonist of the SCP Foundation series. He is a sadistic evil deity responsible for a couple of anomalies like SCP-089. He is directly based on the mythological Moloch.
Moloch is a major antagonist in the "Et Tam Deum Petivi" canon.
Moloch was an old god inhabiting the Darkness Below. At some point he fell into service to the Scarlet King and helped him in his assault on the multiverse. During the conquest he would often work with Jeser. Moloch would bring forth shame in the souls of mortals whilst Jeser warped them to his will.
Species of Interest-004[]
Moloch was an evil god who alongside Apep attacked the Imit civilization. However, during the war between the Imit and the Daevites, both Moloch and Apep were absorbed by the latter's gods, the Scarlet King, the Unseelie Queen, the Verdant Mage and the King Worm.
General Moloch[]
Moloch was once one of the many angelic warriors that served the Creator. However, like many other angels, Moloch joined Lucifer in his rebellion against the Creator, causing them to be cast down to Hell, or the Darkness Above, where they became demons. There Moloch became a notorious warrior who wished to spread war across Creation, but was rebuffed by Lucifer and his fellow demons.
Soon Hell came under attack by the forces of the Darkness Below led by the Scarlet King. Moloch originally was among those who opposed the Scarlet Horde, but was eventually met by Jeser who convinced him to betray Lucifer and join the Scarlet King since they both wished to wage a devastating war. Moloch took the demons that were loyal to him and fled to the Darkness Below where he joined the Scarlet Horde and came to lead the lead the children of the Scarlet King's second bride A'ghor. Despite facing some disdain from other evil god's that were part of the Scarlet Horde due to his Heavenly origins, Moloch didn't mind as he only wished to cause war and destruction.
Influencing Humanity[]
Moloch became worshipped in multiple ancient societies, such as Canaan and Daevon where numerous effigies were erected in order to offer him sacrifices. After the Daevites were defeated by Ab-Leshal, Moloch came forth to fight him. He was easily defeated but survived, although severely weakened. Once the Daevites' destruction was undone, Moloch resumed assisting his worshippers. During the Olympian god Dionysus' invasion of India, the Daevites were opposed to his army. Daeva general Daukaar sacrificed the slaves' children to Moloch in order to gain his favor, but despite this he was killed by Dionysus with the assistance of Zeus. Moloch intrigued by this new foe came face to face with Dionysus, only to also be left defeated.
Several Israelites began worshiping Moloch and commit sacrifices for him. All of these worshippers were condemned and the land of these atrocities became known the Valley of the Son of Hinnom. One of King Solomon's wives, Naamah from the kingdom of Ammon, convinced her husband to construct statues of Moloch so her god could receive sacrifices from his worshippers. Thankfully, King Josiah destroyed most of these statues, though unfortunately he would miss some.
In 1865, American President Andrew Johnson, wanting to ensure America's safety and greatness, made a deal with Moloch after joining a secret cabal of immortal xenophobes in the Washington Underground, handing the Presidency over the evil god who in turn decreed various orders for the government to follow. These orders often involved causing various atrocities that would help the United States at the expense of other countries. Every president that followed Johnson inherited this duty, allowing mass suffering to occur in the name of America.
A statue of Moloch from the second century BCE, designated SCP-089, was under the SCP Foundation's observation at Site-36. At infrequent time the statue spoke, predicting various great catastrophes. If this occurred, the Foundation were to locate a mother, designated SCP-089-B, with an infant child under six, SCP-089-A, and convince her to place the child in SCP-089 and burn it alive. When this was done, depending on how well the sacrifice went, will affect how severe the disaster was. For example it took six years to carry out the necessary sacrifice during the Taiping Rebellion, leading to the deaths of millions followed by a famine. Other disasters prophesied by SCP-089, designated Type-S Events, included the Great New Orleans Fire, the 1951 East Rift Valley earthquakes and the 1970 Bhola cyclone.
The anartist group named Are We Cool Yet? used some of the Daevite magic to create their art pieces, which included beings known as the Inkbloods. Some of the Inkbloods seemingly fell under the control of Moloch as Mary-Ann Lewitt and Salah Zahiri of the Horizon Initiative encountered an Inkblood in BackDoor Soho which worshipped Moloch.
Moloch secretly began using the inkbloods to infiltrate the Foundation in order to facilitate the child sacrifices. Eventually, he asked for Mary-Ann to sacrifice her daughter Naomi to him, else SCP-610 would breach containment. The Foundation managed to convince Mary-Ann and bring her daughter to Site-36. However, as she put Naomi into SCP-089, she came to her senses and immediately took her now scarred daughter out of the statue, infuriating Moloch. After her husband Salah took Naomi away to safety, Moloch took possession of SCP-089, transforming it into his physical body. There he confronted Mary-Ann who remained behind to prevent him from destroying any more families, mocking her for thinking she could defeat him. Mary-Ann lunged at Moloch, attacking him using Salah's obsidian knife, forcing Moloch to fight back by beating her and tossing her around the chamber, crushing her bones and organs, while also using his fire to scorch her body. Despite this, Mary-Ann fought through her pain, and slashed at Moloch, taking out his eyes and throat, before plunging the knife in his chest and head, killing him.
Possible Endings[]
The Real Adventures in Capitalism[]
During the destructive attack of the Scarlet King and his army on the universe, Moloch was reborn and helped the evil god in destroying the world. It is unknown what happened to him following the defeat of the Scarlet King at the hands of Isabel Wondertainment.
Appearance[]
Moloch was depicted as a towering humanoid with the head of a three-eyed bull, tattered black wings and wielding a sword of fire. When appearing to Mary-Ann Moloch resembled as a hairy man standing ten feet tall, with the head of a bull wearing a misshapen tarnished bronze crown, curled horns, tattered crow wings, and a furnace in his belly. He stank of clay, coals and old stale sweat, and dribbled from his mouth steaming spittle and foam.
Personality[]
Moloch was shown to be a sadistic and arrogant individual, thinking highly of himself and demanding sacrifices to be made for him, specifically requesting young babies to be burned alive by their mothers' hands and relishing in their shame of committing these heinous acts. He was a proud warrior who only wished to war against Creation, not caring with who he allied with as long as he was assisted in his objectives. He forced the SCP Foundation personnel to abide to his requests or else catastrophes would happen in the near future. Moloch was also shown to be loyal to the Scarlet King, leading his armies and committing atrocities in the King's name, but not only because their goals aligned. After Mary-Ann Lewitt refused to sacrifice her daughter Naomi to him, Moloch himself appeared to her, mocking her willingness to sacrifice a vast number of people for her daughter's safety, before reminding her of her previous promiscuous lifestyle and telling her despite being a devout Christian Mary-Ann was in fact one of his most loyal servants.
Powers and Abilities[]
Moloch was one of the more powerful old gods or demons but far weaker than the Scarlet King and Lucifer, causing him to become one of the former's servants. During SCP-076-2's uprising, Moloch went to confront him, but was left defeated though still alive. Moloch could impart his power to several objects like SCP-089 which he spoke through and received sacrifices from, and possibly SCP-2128 as it appeared to have similar properties to 089. Moloch appeared to be able to predict future catastrophes and was willing to prevent them from happening if his requests were fulfilled, though it is just as likely that he was the one causing them in the first place.
Followers[]
Throughout history, Moloch has been worshiped as a cruel god that bestowed his worshippers power and riches in exchange for sacrifices, in particularly child sacrifices done by their parents as Moloch reveled in their suffering and shame of having to commit these acts, known as "Molochian" practices. The first people to come to worship Moloch were the Daevites, who sacrificed their slaves to gain the evil god's favor. According to SCP-6810's file, Moloch was introduced to the Daevite Empire by a scarlet cult, suggesting that Moloch worship originated from outside the civilization. Another civilization to worship Moloch was that of the Canaanites who erected many iron avatars to sacrifice to.
Other groups became corrupted by Moloch, such as AWCY? which by using his worshippers' magic like the inkblood allowed his influence to grow. Marshall, Carter and Dark Ltd. held in their possession several statues of Moloch which they sold to new customers interested in the occult. The SCP Foundation also adhered to Moloch's wishes, offering many sacrifices through his effigies like SCP-089 and SCP-2128, which led to the inkbloods to secretly infiltrate their ranks. The Serpent's Hand opposed Moloch and his worshippers, determined to destroy his shrines and willing to form alliances with the Foundation and the Global Occult Coalition.
Moloch was also worshiped by other groups, one of which was the Brazen Heart. The Brazen Heart was formed in the ninth century and despised humanity, but was unaware of their god's alliance with the Scarlet King, only worshiping Moloch. The cult created several anomalies like SCP-2128 and SCP-2427 which served to torture innocent people before sacrificing them to their god. The Brazen Heart was thought to have been destroyed by the Spanish Inquisition, but it was revealed that it was able to survive until modern times. Moloch also seemed to have a relationship with The Factory as the workers had mentioned his name on several occasions, though it probably referred to a metaphorical connection between the god and the cruel capitalism.
Having become disillusioned with the Judeo-Christian God, several immortal individuals who would come to be known as R. J. Rushdoony, Phyllis Schlafly, Nicholas II, Pontius Pilate and McGeorge Bundy, turned to worship Moloch among other malevolent gods, forming a secret cabal that operated behind the shadows and wished to eradicate the Imit people. As part of a deal deal between the President of the United States of America and Moloch, that handed over the Presidency to him, Moloch, through one of his statues resting hidden in the Oval Office, would help the current president with the "stock market".
This involved Moloch speaking in the president's voice and telling them the future Executive Orders that would be registered and executed. The presidents that listened to Moloch and put his orders into motion included George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan who all committed various atrocities which they hid as for the good of America, though these all contributed to the creation of a "Neoliberal Egregore". According to SCP-2068 all of these atrocities undertook by the Presidents and the American army were done by decree of Moloch.
According to author of "Empire of Dirt", Djoric, Moloch's voice resembles that of Rubilax.
When the Foundation used SCP-978 to take a photo of 089, the picture showed Moloch in place of the statue, sitting on a throne composed of severed human hands.
Various articles featuring Moloch associate him with the evil of capitalism, the association first referenced by Allen Ginsberg, with SCP-089 containing a quote from his poem Howl (although author spikebrennan originally intended it to be just an Easter egg with no deeper meaning). Ginsberg saw Moloch as a metaphor for human greed which decided who would live or die.
A version of Moloch is designated SCP-5742 which was originally a hostile waste disposal machine that later transformed to a anomalous but harmless South Devon Bull.
SCP-2980-1 once wrote a children's story based on Moloch titled Moloch the Meanie.
