~ Mombi to Glinda |
Mombi is the main antagonist of Oz- The Return of the Wicked Witch, part of the dark fantasy comic book series Grimm Fairy Tales by Zenescope Entertainment.
History[]
Mombi was originally the Good Witch of the North and the Queen of the country of Gillikin. She was adored by her subjects. She was their protector, their nurturer, and with the aid of her ivory wand, she utilized her imense power as their provider. As word of gillikin's prosperity spread throughout Oz, more and more immigrants arrived. Mombi welcomed them all, offering the newcomers food, shelter, security. All she asked for in return was fealty, and one that the newcomers readily accepted.
The people loved her, and she reciprocated as much as she could, but there was only one who held her heart; her only child and heir to her kingdom. Everything Mombi did was for him and his future, but she knew she couldn't always be there to protect him. So she fashioned an amulet with her most potent magicks, set on a chain of the finest gold. It made him invulnerable, as long as it remained around his neck.
However, someday strange creatures arrived. The queen and her retinue were caught off guard, and her son was killed in the process. Believing a foreign agent had somehow caused this calamity, the queen turned her hostility on the subjects she once loved, accusing them of betrayal. Even the most loyal subjects of her court became enemies, like Lagerstam, her former chamberlain. Determined to bring her son back, she immersed herself in forbidden magicks that forever scarred her soul. Although she failed to resurrect the prince, she made other dark discoveries; the undead, and utilized them to punish her people.
Gillikin descended into civil war, and Mombi's Army of the Dead won. During the battle, she fataly stabed Lagerstam, and used her magic to turn him into Jack Pumpkinhead. Mombi failed her son once, but vowed to someday return him to the world. She researched the components of a spell meticulously and completed the ritual exactly as was required. She reached out to the old gods, summoning their aid and strength, reaching into the primordial pool of creation to bring him back. She had mastered the art of reanimation, but she couldn't make him whole. Mombi knew the longer he was gone, the more difficult it would be to regain all of his humanity.
All she needed was time. She had fortified her palace with soldiers and magic, built a refuge deep within the earth, but it wasn't enough. It was somewhat flattering in a way, the good witches of the south and east along with their elite retinues against Mombi and her minions, but that would've been to kind. Instead, she languished in a magically constructed prison. Just her and her son for a thousand of years, to had the time to perfect her craft. As the witches' power waned, some kind of force washed over them, freed them. For Mombi's surprise, she emerged from solitude to find herself surrounded by potential subjects. So many villages to choose from, so many brought for their chance at immortality.
After she failed to resurrect her son, Mombi jumped from a cliff, falling to her death.
