Mrs. Robotnik, better known as Momma Robotnik, is the overarching antagonist of the animated series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. She is the foul and aggressive mother of Dr. Robotnik, whose viciousness is enough to even scare him.
She is voiced by Kathleen Barr.
Biography[]
Momma Robotnik is large, grotesque, intimidating, wrathful, domineering and genuinely insane mother of the infamous Dr. Robotnik that she spends much of her time locked up in what can only be assumed is a psychiatric ward but sometimes escapes and wreaks havoc in the crazy world Sonic and Tails inhabit.
Momma Robotnik is so insane that she even scares her own son, she is also even worse than him, and although just as comedic as the others in the show she was definitely wicked, in fact she showed little care even for her own son and was actually abusive towards him - her only true goal in life seems to be to destroy Mobius and make everyone miserable.
She is kept in an asylum called the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers, though she escapes from time to time. Her insanity is enough to scare even Robotnik himself.
Originally a one-shot gag character for the episode "Momma Robotnik's Birthday", she found her way into the regular recurring cast about halfway through the series coming back for "Momma Robotnik Returns", "Zoobotnik", "The Last Resort", and "Sonic is Running".
Appearance[]
Momma Robotnik is a very large figure, much like her son. Her head design is also largely the same to her son's for having black eyes with red irises and black pupils, a pink nose and the same head. She wears a bulging pink dress, a large green hat and black stilettos.
In some episodes, she has a mustache just like her son's. On the first episode that she appeared on, she has it, but in her next appearance the moustache was gone. However towards the end of the episode, Sonic ripped Robotnik's moustache off and slapped it on Momma Robotnik. From there on, her moustache would come and go. For example, she had no mustache in Episode 35, "The Last Resort", but then in episode 40, "Zoobotnik", she had a mustache again. In ''Sonic is running'' her moustache is once again gone. Despite that, a still on live TV shows her with her mustache hitting Robotnik with her handbag when Chollie Chang reports on the news that Robotnik's popularity for president is going downhill.
Abilities[]
Momma Robotnik has proven to be a competent and dangerous enemy for Sonic, Tails and even her own son. Her physical strength is significant-on one occasion she was able to simply stampede through Robotnik's wall of defenses surrounding his fortress. In another incident, she engaged the alien huntress Katella in direct combat, and proved to be the only being aggressive enough to frighten the entity from the planet.
Momma Robotnik has demonstrated significant cunning and manipulative skill. Despite Scratch and Grounder's programmed loyalty to Robotnik, Momma Robotnik was able to quickly turn them against her son with only seconds of emotional manipulation. She was able to manipulate the Mobius local government's welfare department to grant her custody of Tails, allowing him to be used as a lure for Sonic. During Momma Robotnik's Birthday, she poised a trap that came extremely close to killing Sonic, and was only foiled through the direct sabotage of her son.
Incarceration[]
Momma Robotnik's rampages are usually stopped when the senior staff of the Mobius Home for Really Bizarre Mothers discover her escape. A high speed ambulance with orderlies is usually dispatched to apprehend her before her machinations cause any lasting harm.
Trivia[]
- In around half of her appearances, she has a moustache just like her sons, while on a few occasions she lacks one.
- When sobbing in her debut appearance ''Momma Robotnik's Birthday'' she has a slight British accent (much like her son) but when speaking in a normal tone, she has a Minnesotan American accent.
- Despite always being voiced by Kathleen Barr, in her later appearances after ''Momma Robotnik's Birthday'' she has a lower toned voice, despite still sounding like a female.
- Funnily enough, despite telling Robotnik not to lie to her in ''Momma Robotnik's Birthday'' about forgetting about her birthday, she got furious when Robotnik told her the truth in ''Zoobotnik'' about Katella forcing her to marry her, this caused Momma Robotnik to furiously spank him with her umbrella claiming to him that she raised him to always lie and not tell the truth, making her a hypocrite.
- While having a son, nothing is known about Robotnik's father, he never appeared nor was mentioned in the show suggesting he passed away or is away from the Robotnik family. Its unknown if the two were married or not.
- Since she has a nephew Dr. Warpnik, who is the cousin of her son, she likely has at least one sibling or sibling in-law.
- Despite Momma Robotnik physically lacking her mustache in ''Sonic is Running'', a still on live TV depicts her with her mustache hitting her son with her handbag when Chollie Chang is reporting that Robotnik's popularity is plunging.
- Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog marks the only Sonic the Hedgehog media to have an on-screen parent of Dr. Robotnik, whereas Momma Robotnik's appearance and information in other continuities are a mystery.
- Momma Robotnik appears in several Off Panel strips in Sonic the Hedgehog comics by Archie Comics. Although all of her appearances happened after SEGA introduced a mandate according to which video game characters can't have comic book-exclusive parents, they were likely overlooked due to all Off Panels being non-canon.
