Monoid Two

Monoid Two is a major antagonist in the Doctor Who story "The Ark".

He was portrayed by Ralph Carrigan, who also played a White Robot in "The Mind Robber" and a Cyberman in "The Invasion", and voiced by John Halstead.

Biography[]

Monoid Two was one of the senior Monoids who had taken over the Ark and enslaved the human Guardians. He led the first party who encountered the Doctor, Steven and Dodo when they returned to the Ark after a 700 year absence, and escorted the three to his leader, Monoid One. After Monoid One had explained the new situation on the Ark to the travellers, Monoid Two took the three to the security kitchen where the Guardians who refused to submit to the Monoids' rule had been imprisoned.

Monoid One explained to Monoid Two and Monoid Three that he intended to settle the Monoids on the Ark's destination, Refusis 2, and leave the humans behind on the Ark to die, a plan Monoid Two approved of. First, however, Monoid One wanted Monoid Two to take a small party to the planet to assess its suitability. Monoid Two went to collect the Doctor and Dodo to accompany him, but was ambushed by Steven and one of the subject Guardians, Dassuk. As he struggled with them, Monoid Three entered and forced the humans to back down by casually killing one of their number.

Monoid Two travelled down to Refusis in a launcher with the Doctor, Dodo and Yendom, one of the Guardians who were collaborating with the Monoids. Despite early scans showing signs of life, they could see no-one. The Doctor suggested signalling the Ark to send everyone else down. Monoid Two mockingly noted it wouldn't take as long as they expected, then realised he had given himself away. They found a native building but, on seeing no sign of anyone, Monoid Two began smashing the room up to make the native Refusians reveal themselves. He instead found himself forcibly restrained by one of the invisible Refusians. He took Yendom with him, intending to alert the Monoids on the Ark of the situation. Yendom, having realised from the earlier comment that he intended to abandon the humans, tried to stop him and Monoid Two killed him. On reaching the launcher, he contacted the Ark, but before he could say anything, the Refusian destroyed the launcher, killing him.
