“ | This group displays many features of a religious sect. Its members believe in the existence of a complex alien crystal, the Monolith, located somewhere in the center of the Zone. Most stalkers treat Monolith adepts with contempt and consider them as lunatics. From its inception the group strives to block all progress towards the center of the Zone, protecting the Monolith from other stalkers. Rumor has it that the group has a large base deep in the Zone, but its exact location is known only by the members. | „ |
~ PDA description |
Monolith (Rus.: Монолит; Ukr.: Моноліт) are the main antagonists of the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. They serve as the main antagonists in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, supporting antagonists in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and major antagonists in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Monolith is a quasi-religious cult of brainwashed stalkers that worships the Wish Granter, also known as the Monolith. Monolith is the biggest and most advanced fraction from them all, all their members fanatically believe in the Monolith and believes that every single living being, exists to worship it
History[]
The Monolith is one of the oldest fraction in the Zone, was formed from those stalkers who believed in the power of a mysterious artifact — a crystal called Monolith — allegedly fulfilling any human desires. At first, they were a formation of stalkers with the common goal of protecting the center from others and searching for the Monolith, which, according to the stalkers, is located in the center of the Zone. However, before the emission in 2011, the whole group headed through the Brain Scorcher to search for him, and no one has seen them since. But after a while, stalkers began to notice aggressive members of the group who didn't enter into negotiations and attacked everyone.
Later, the reason for the transformation of the Monolith into a cult of crazy fanatics will become reliably known: The group was brainwashed and zombified by C-Consciousness as additional protection from stalkers who are trying to penetrate the ChNPP and the laboratories of C-Consciousness to discover the Zone's secrets. The members of the group were controlled using special antennas, the "Scorcher" was the largest of such antennas. After Strelok turned off the "Scorcher" in 2012, and then destroyed C-Consciousness, many monolithians began to fall out of control. As a result, many of them became zombifieds or delusional believers, only a small part of the monolithians managed to regain their identity and sanity, like Brodyaga and his group.
Ranks & Structure[]
Due to the nature of the fraction and the lack of explanation, the Monolith doesn't have a structure or a ranking system, at least shown ones. However, we certainly can say that high-ranked members are preaching the "Monolith's wishes", which are in reality C-Consciousness orders, to other members
