Therefore, this villain shall be added to our "Never Again List", where proposed villains rejected by the community shall be placed to prevent future proposals of the same evil-doer. Rock and roll!
~ Montgomery Gator's catchphrase.
I've tried to play along with you, but you're no fun. You need to go away.
~ Monty explaining his reason for killing Kane.

Montgomery "Monty" Gator is a minor antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's: Tales from the Pizzaplex anthology novel series, serving as the titular main antagonist of "The Monty Within".

He is a video game version of the famous robotic entertainer at the Mega PizzaPlex who was a playable character in the arcade game Fazcade Tag-Team. More sentient than he originally seemed, Monty entered the mind of the teenager Kane and slowly started taking control of his body, planning to do whatever he wants in the real world.

Appearance[]

Monty looks exactly like his game counterpart, being a green animatronic gator wearing sunglasses and a mohawk.

Biography[]

The protagonist of the story, Kane, has a theory that both sides of the brain are two entirely separate minds that communicate with each other; the left brain controls the logical decisions, while the right mind controls emotions. When he plays the PizzaPlex game Fazcade Tag-Team, he chooses Orville Elephant as his player character, and gets Monty as his AI-controlled partner. Monty, while originally doing his own thing, eventually started copying Orville/Kane's moves. While playing the game, Kane realises there is a glowing circle above him and that Monty freezes up in place whenever he starts focusing on the game. He thinks that the game has indirectly proven his theory and hijacked part of his mind.

The next day, Kane decides to test this theory by going to the PizzaPlex and playing the game again. He's freaked out after realizing Monty remembers him and wants a high-five, but continues playing. Once again, Monty stops acting when Kane starts overanalyzing, but acts normally when Kane plays normally. He eventually tries to find out what's the deal with the light above him, but accidentally destroys all the lights in the arcade.

When Kane gets back home, he realizes there's a voice inside his head that sarcastically calls him out whenever he lies, and he says things he doesn't want to say, like telling his mom he's going for a run when he wanted to rest. When he hears the voice insulting the things he likes, he goes to check himself in the mirror, and seemingly winks at himself; he tries to ignore it by going to sleep. The next day, he keeps hearing the voice again, insulting a pimple on his girlfriend's face and outright taking over his body to insult her. He realizes that the voice inside his head is Monty's AI, which managed to escape the game and enter his mind.

Over the course of the day, Kane keeps conversing with Monty, resulting in him embarrassing himself in front of his friends, alienating others and screwing up while playing baseball. Monty also wants to cause chaos, like bullying others or taking over Kane's body to throw food at himself to spite the boy. This continues for a long amount of time, with the gator interrupting Kane's apology to his girlfriend or trying to give him a mohawk, resulting in him being injured. Monty then disappears for the rest of the day, making Kane think he's finally gone forever.

However, while thinking to himself, he realizes he isn't going where he wants to, and that Monty has full control over him. They went to the school's shop, where Monty has Kane seated on the plywood so the self-feeding table saw could split his body in half. He explains that the boy is boring and stops him from doing what he wants, and that he wants to free himself from him. As Kane begs for him to stop and release him, Monty utters one last "Rock and roll!" as the saw strikes bone.

Trivia[]

  • Originally, the story was erroneously titled "The Manshi Within". The title is also a reference to Kane's theory, which he titles "The AI Within".
  • It's often speculated by fans this Monty is a variation of the Mimic1 program that was created by Glitchtrap when he was controlling the Storyteller, mostly due to how he can take control of people.
