Naughty boy... naughty boy...It's past your bedtime, you must be punished! Nighty niiiight...
~ Moon.
It won't work! Take your nap! No more Sun!
~ Moon trying to stop Cassie from defeating it and freeing Sun.

Moon, also known as Moondrop, is a supporting antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.

It is the malevolent "night" persona of the Daycare Attendant, the animatronic who patrols the Superstar Daycare. Moon is a humanoid animatronic with a moon-shaped head (hence its name) who is active when the lights are off. The second persona of the Attendant, Sun, is afraid of Moon and seeks to keep the lights on to stop it from coming out.

Once the Pizzaplex was destroyed following an earthquake, the Daycare Attendant became incredibly damaged with Sun and Moon continuing to fight for control. When a girl called Cassie arrived to save her friend Gregory, she unified Moon with Sun to create the newer, friendlier persona called Eclipse, ending its threat.

It is voiced by Kellen Goff, who also voices Funtime/Molten Freddy, Fredbear and Glamrock Freddy in the same series, as well as other characters such as Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia, Fiddlesticks in League of Legends, Hans in Konosuba, Diavolo in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Rekka Hoshimiya in Fire Force, Zagred in Black Clover, Father Spider Demon in Demon Slayer, Techno Pirate in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Bezel in Chikn Nuggit, Fat Thief in Spooky Month, and Sylva in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

How does Moon differ from Sun in FNAF SB? toggle section
Moon, or Moondrop, is the antagonistic 'night' persona of the Daycare Attendant in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. Unlike Sun, Moon activates in darkness and tries to harm the protagonist. Moon's existence is due to a glitch, and it is not controlled by the Mimic. When daylight returns, Moon reverts to Sun. In the sequel DLC Ruin, Moon remains a threat until the friendly Eclipse personality emerges after Moon's reboot.

Why is Sun afraid of Moon in FNAF SB? toggle section
Sun fears Moon in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach because Moon is Sun's darker persona, emerging when lights go out. Known as Moondrop, Moon becomes a major antagonist, threatening the protagonist. This transformation is due to a glitch, making Moon a feared presence.

What role does Moon play in the Pizzaplex? toggle section
Moon, the Moon animatronic, is the antagonist in the Superstar Daycare at the Pizzaplex. Active when lights are off, Moon is the darker side of the Daycare Attendant, which also includes Sun. A glitch makes Moon Sun's 'evil side,' not controlled by the Mimic. The Pizzaplex installed generators to keep lights on and manage Moon's activity during frequent blackouts.

Personality[]

Moon is the evil counterpart of the Daycare Attendant. It wants to punish kids for "staying up past their bedtime" and has a raspier and more sinister voice. It is also sadistic and takes joy in hunting after Gregory, telling him to hide while he's being chased. It's implied Moon destroyed numerous S.T.A.F.F. bots, once again showcasing its sadistic nature.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

As revealed in the Tales from the Pizzaplex books, when Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex opened, the so-called "Daycare Attendant" was originally an animatronic performer at the Fazbear Theater, with Moon being the evil alter-ego for whenever the lights went off. When it was reprogrammed to serve in the Superstar Daycare, Fazbear Entertainment decided to delete Moon; however, it was proved to be impossible to get rid of it, with it turning into a glitch. Additionally, the daycare would have constant black-outs that allowed Moon to unleash. Deciding it would cost too much money to fix either the lights or the Attendant, the company would let Moon stay but put generators in the play structures of the daycare to have the lights turned on at all times.

Tales from the Pizzaplex[]

Somniphobia[]

An astral projection of Moon serves as the main antagonist.

Bobbiedots, Part 1[]

When Abe is teaching Preston how to fix the generators at the Superstar Daycare, he explains the Attendant's origins. Right as he finishes, Moon himself appears, tauntingly calling him a naughty boy. Thankfully, the generators are turned on, turning Moon into Sun.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach[]

The Daycare Attendant first appears in the daycare as Sun. Sun dives into the ball pit and grabs Gregory when gets close. Whenever Gregory tries to move, it will bring the child back to the same spot. Gregory must distract Sun by knocking over some cans, forcing it to tidy them. While Gregory is at the desk, the lights will suddenly turn off, causing Sun to transform into Moon.

To turn the lights back on, Gregory has to turn on all five back up generators within the play area and avoid being caught by Moon. After turning them all on, Moon reverts to Sun, angry that Gregory broke the rules, Sun kicks him out of the daycare, but not before alerting the other animatronics that Gregory was there.

After that point, the lights' power is diverted to the recharge stations and will turn off at the end of every hour, thus allowing Moon to freely roam the mall and hunt down Gregory. When this happens, Gregory must hide in Glamrock Freddy and get to a recharge station immediately. If they don't get to a recharge station in time, Moon will jumpscare Gregory and cause a game over.

Later in the game, Moon attacks Freddy, and sadistically waves at Gregory, who is hiding in a recharge station, before dragging the former away.

Moon becomes active for the final time at 5:55 AM. After this, if Gregory chooses to stay, Moon will no longer again be active for the remainder of the game due to turning sunrise outside of the PizzaPlex because he only appears by the darkness. Thus turns him back to Sun again afterwards upon this.

If at any point Gregory attempts to re-enter the daycare play structure area, Sun will block his way before yelling for security; thus shows he was still mad at the boy as a disobedient rule-breaker for turning out the daycare lights earlier.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2[]

Moon is the secondary antagonist of the game, trying to kill the protagonist in several levels, appearing more often than any other character. It appears in Sun's carousel level, where it takes control of Sun and tries to kill the protagonist, only to be fended off by a flashlight. Later, a Jack-O-Lantern version of Moon stalks the protagonist during a shooting/throwing level. Finally, it appears in one of the final levels, the Paper Pals, where it tries to kill the protagonist while they are constructing the Paper Pals.

In the secret ending achieved by beating Princess Quest 4, Moon takes away the Glitchtrap plushie from the protagonist. It then gives it to Vanny: when the plushie becomes the real Glitchtrap, she then either teleports him somewhere or kills him.

Ruin[]

Once Cassie enters the daycare, she is attacked by Moon, who almost kills her. Once it returns, Sun is in control, begging the girl to turn on the generators to stop its evil counterpart. Cassie does this while Moon tries to stop her, claiming "no more Sun".

Once the generators are turned on, the Attendant stands in one place, glitching. Cassie puts her faz-wrench into the back of the Attendant's head, causing Moon to glitch out before being replaced with "Eclipse". It claims that this is no place for a young girl like Cassie, taking her out of the Daycare while happily thinking more kids will arrive tomorrow. Once the doors close, Sun thanks Cassie for turning him to normal & for ending Moon. With Moon permanently gone, thus makes Sun & Eclipse both live in a functional body-control of themselves for now.

Trivia[]

  • Judging by its screams of agony, it's likely that Sun's transformation into Moon is painful, and it seems to go the other way around too.
  • During the mission “Let there be Light” in the daycare, Moon has plain white eyes while walking/flying around and searching for Gregory, unlike when he first transforms from Sun to Moon. However, if he takes too long to find the generators, his eyes will turn red again and he’ll start entering whatever play structure Gregory is in, implying that he knows exactly where he is. He can still be distracted by knocking over cans.
  • A customer complaint has an angry parent reveal that her child, who previously had no sleep-related issues, has begun refusing to sleep with the lights off and started wetting the bed after being left in the daycare. It is implied that said child has been traumatized by Moon.
  • Seeing they both have strings on them, Moon might be a marionette similar to the Puppet. However, they both seem to be able to move just fine without any strings attached and only use them for quick travel from place to place.
  • Sun and Moon might be a reference to Jekyll and Hyde, respectively.
  • If Gregory chose to stay, Moon will never again appear in the game due to sunrise outside the PizzaPlex building causing it to turn into Sun.
  • With the books revealing Moon was always Sun's "evil side" who exists only due to a glitch, Moon seems to be one of the animatronics who isn't under the control of the Mimic.
  • When the trailer for Ruin first came out, many fans called Moon's new form "Eclipse" as a reference to the fact it seems to be Sun and Moon merged together. Additionally, Eclipse is a popular fan-made character based on the in-universe Balloon World minigame, whose secret ending features an evil version of Sun with a dark face, glowing eyes and teeth, and Moon's smile.
    • Once the game released, it was ironically revealed that Eclipse really is a third personality of the Daycare Attendant, but a friendly one which was created only after Moon was rebooted.
  • If one counts Moon being replaced with Eclipse as a death (of personality), then it and Montgomery Gator are the only Security Breach animatronics to be killed in the Ruin DLC.
  • Moon's voice actor Kellen Goff has stated that its voice was inspired by Laserbeak from Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is ironic considering that Glamrock Freddy (another character that Kellen voices in Security Breach) also had his voice inspired by another Transformers character, that being Optimus Prime.
