Morgomir is one of the main protagonist villains from The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth 2: The Rise of the Witch-king. He was a former black Númenórean and later one of the nine Nazgûl, the lieutenant of Carn Dúm, the first of the King’s men and the right hand of the Witch-King of Angmar.

Biography[]

Morgomir was one of the nine kings who received the nine rings from Sauron (Peter Jackson), which transformed them into Ringwraiths. After the fall of Sauron, the strongest servant of evil, the Witch-king wanted revenge for his master and Morgomir went with him. Their common goal was to destroy the Dunedains the kingdom of Arnor. Arnor's kingdom was divided into three parts due to various internal strife and conflicts. The first was Rhudaur, where the Dunedains were the weakest, the second was Cardolan, where the glorious kings of Arnor were buried, and the third was Arthedain, where the Dunedains were the strongest and here was their great capital, Fornost. But there was also a fourth area, Angmar, which belonged to no one and whose inhabitants were the black Númenóreans and mainly wolves, trolls and orcs of Gundabad. The Witch-king knew that before the invasion of Arnor he needed a symbol under which to unite the forces of evil. He spent a lot of time in his fortress, Carn Dúm, which was almost completely abandoned, but in the end he decided to unite the inhabitans of Angmar under the iron crown and make his fortress his capital.

The Witch-king and Morgomir found an important servant at the beginning of their dark mission. A huge, armored warrior troll fought against black Númenóreans with a giant sword, the creature was huge for its kind and fought very skillfully. The two ringwraiths and the monster killed the black Númenóreans together and then began to talk. The troll's name was Rogash, he said that the black Númenóreans live in the northern old ruins and that the trolls fight against each other because of them, and that they make some of them work as slaves, and his goal is to unite the hordes of trolls. The Witch-king convinced Rogash to join him and his reward would be not only the fulfillment of his goal, but gold, treasure, meat and blood. The troll accepted the Witch King as his new leader and became perhaps his most loyal follower. Then the three of them went to the trolls who fought against each other and against dire wolves. Rogash jumped between them and ordered them to pay attention to their new king. The Witch-king told them that humans were to blame for their wars against each other and that human blood was what they needed and to join him. The trolls and wolves shouted loudly and followed the new leaders of evil, whose next goal was to weaken the black Númenóreans. The attacks were successful, later the orcs of Gundabad joined the fight, but they too were killed. The Witch-king built fortresses, and Morgomir and Rogash fought alongside him and their power grew. They freed snow troll slaves who joined them and found a dark iron forge to build siege engines and a den where more monsters were and more monsters joined them. They built three fortresses, but then the black Númenóreans launched a counterattack with a serious and powerful army. However, the Witch-king, Morgomir and Rogash inflicted a great defeat on them and found their remaining forces. The evil men feared them, but the new lord of Angmar told them that they could grow strong again under his rule and join him in defeating their common enemy. The black Númenóreans and the orcs of Gundabad began to cheer loudly, and Angmar was fully united and the Witch-king became the ruler of the evil. A new system was established, Rogash became the leader of the trolls of the north, and Morgomir became the captain of the black Númenóreans and dark rangers, the lieutenant of Carn Dúm and one of the most important people in Angmar. Car Dúm was completely rebuilt, the Witch-king's builed a sanctuary for his sorcerers, and the evil was finally ready to launch the invasion against Arnor. The seventh king of Arhedain, Argeleb I, saw the danger in the growing power of Angmar and wanted to unite Arnor immediately. Cardalon was willing to cooperate, but a larger and more serious rebellion broke out in Rhudar than before. Rhudaur, already weak, was split in two, one part belonging to the Royalists, who sided with Arnor, and the other part supported Angmar. Their leader was a hill chief named Hwaldar, who in turn was Morgomir's man and incited constant rebellion and hatred against the Dunedains. However, Agreleb captured Hwaldar and imprisoned him, but he secretly gathered more supporters and infighting broke out among the wildmen. The Witch-king decided Rhudaur would be the perfect place to test his army and gain more allies. The hill-men had a total of four villages where the fighting went on non-stop, and Hwaldar was imprisoned in the south. While Argelen marched from Arthedain with a large and powerful army, the Witch-king and Morgomir set out without their armies to take Rhadur. The plan was to free Hwaldar as soon as possible, so more minions would join them.

They were attacked several times by the Dunedain rangers, but the Witch-king Morgomir and Hwaldar with the dark rangers easily killed them. Meanwhile, they capture the villages of the hill-men one after the other, and the royalists were killed to the last fiber. The Dunedains had two fortresses in the area, one in the southwest and the other in the northwest. They waited to attack until they were prepared with siege engines and proper equipment. However, the attack was made more difficult by the fact that both fortresses were protected by well-equipped and trained soldiers, tower guards and knights, who sometimes launched counterattacks against the enemy. However, after these were destroyed, the forces of Angmar could begin the siege, which progressed quickly, the ice munutions of the troll stone throwers caused enormous destruction, destroying the castle walls and gates with a few shots. After one of the fortresses was destroyed, King Argeleb arrived with his trained and strong army, but the king was overconfident and launched a frontal attack after his speech. However, in the fortress of Angmar, the Witch King's Sancutray immediately destroyed a part of the army with a huge ice projectile, and the rest were confronted by the hordes of Angmar. King Argeleb was hit in the heart by an arrow and when he died from his injury, his army was also destroyed. After that, they attacked and destroyed the other fortress as well, the uprising of the hill-men ended successfully and Arnor suffered its first and dramatic defeat.

However, the forces of Angmar were stopped by a great and famous fortress, Amon Sul. The new king, Argeleb's son, Arveleg I used the Palantir in Amon Sul and successfully repelled the attacks of Angmar for a time, while the elves and Cardolan also sent him help. The Witch-king then chose a risky strategy, namely to distract the elves and Cardolan with two armies, while he launched an attack against Amon Sul with his strongest minions. However, the fort was not easy to capture as the fort was protected by mallorn trees with magical powers. But after destroying the trees, it was not difficult to capture the fortress, it was here that Morgomir first used his ability to severely damage or destroy buildings. Amon Sul was completely destroyed, but Arveleg escaped and took the Palantir with him.

After Amon Sul fell, the Witch-king was not entirely satisfied as his victory was not complete as Arveleg fled with the Palantir. At that time, however, he sent Morgomir with a smaller group after the Dunedain king to get the relic. The king fled with a group of tower guards, his goal was to get to the nearest outpost and secure the Palantir there. However, on the way he was attacked by Angmar's minions. Dire wolves and orcs from Gundabad attacked them, the tower guards were all killed, only the king was still fighting, but he realized that the end had come for him, but he wanted to make it difficult for the forces of evil, so he broke the Palantir into pieces. There was a huge explosion with lightning and the king and the monsters were all dead.

MorgomirfindPalantirpiece

Morgomir finds a piece of the Palantir.

Then Morgomir arrived in the area where he felt deadness and no one could use magical power at all. On the advice of one of the dark rangers, they searched the area and found a piece of Palantir, but the Dunedains also got there, and a fierce battle began, but Morgomir won the battle and took the piece. When he reached his fortress, he and the other villains felt that some of the magical power had returned, but it was not yet complete. Arveleg broke the Palantir into seven pieces, and Morgomir realized that if all the pieces were recovered, not only would the magical power return, but Angmar might even gain greater power. However, the Dunedains also obtained a piece and took it to their nearby fortress. The forces of evil knew that if the Dunedains acquired too many pieces, they would not be able to recover enough magical power and would not be able to complete their task, so they wanted to get the pieces as quickly as possible, however, because of the counterattacks of the Dunedains, serious fights arose. However, Angmar's forces gradually gained the pieces and the enemy's losses mounted, but the last piece was in their fortress. After Morgomir prepared, he started the siege and relatively quickly captured the outpost, all the buildings were destroyed and everyone was killed. After the fortress was destroyed, they obtained the last piece of the broken Palantir and took it all back to Angmar. After that, sorcerers began to be trained among the black Númenóreans, who were capable of stronger dark arts with the power of the Palantir pieces and also created separate groups, whose members were a necromancer sorcerer and acolytes.

The fall of Amon Sul, the death of Arveleg and the loss of the Palantir was a huge loss for Arthedain and many believed that Fornost would be the next target, so both the military and the population prepared for a siege. However, the Witch-king believed that the siege would be a mistake, as Cardolan's large army would be able to attack Angmar in the rear, so he decided not to attack Arthedain but to use a different strategy. Hwaldar and Rogash were ordered to ceased one of Arnor's most sacred places, the Barrow Downs, where the ancient kings of Arnor were buried. The Witch-king's plan was to continuously provoke Cardalon to send as many troops as possible, while Angmar did the same, until the Prince of Cardalon intervened in the battle, and then Angmar would attack him with his strongest army. Hwaldar arrived in the area with a small group, killed the lurking rangers there and also defeated a stronger army in the north, after which he immediately went to the barrows of the kings. Hwaldar waited at the top of the hill as his troops began looting and desecrating the barrows. The Witch-king's plan worked, Cardalon accepted the challenge and kept sending his troops, but Hwaldar persisted and Morgomir arrived with another group. The fight grew bigger and rougher, and the Prince of Cardolan became so enraged that he himself went to the battlefield with his strongest army, as the Witch-king had wanted. Then the lord of Angmar arrived together with Rogash's army and attacked the Dunadans from behind, who were gradually dwindling. The Witch-king killed the prince of Cardolan with a morgul blade, and Cardolan suffered a crushing defeat.

The situation seemed hopeless to Arnor, as Rhudaur had completely belonged to the Witch-king, and in Cardolan the hordes of evil were plundering and what was left of the army of Cardolan was only fit for defense. However, unexpectedly, a united army of the elves of Lindon, Rivendell and Lorien launched an attack on the capital of Angmar, Carn Dúm. Morgomir and Rogash waited in the west with the main forces of Angmar, the Witch-king and Hwaldar defended the fortress of evil, but the signal fire was lit before the siege. The armies of the elves launched the attack with siege engines controlled by humans, but their strength gradually weakened and they could not break through. The final charge was led by Glorfindel and Elrond, but then Rogash and Morgomir with their forces attacked them from the side, and the Witch-king launched a counterattack. The elves' army suffered a huge defeat and their two leaders were wounded, but they managed to retreat. The forces of evil also suffered losses, but Angmar did not collapse and this great victory held the evildoers together.

However, the Witch-king knew that the elves were buying time for Arnor to grow stronger with this attack, but he didn't want that in any way, so the ruler of Angmar came up with a dark plan. He sent his sorcerers and Morgomir to the Barrow Downs to corrupt the souls buried there and use their dark powers to create a deadly and dark disease, this was the Great Plague. Morgomir and his minions arrived in the evening, but the knew that they had little time and had to hurry in every way, but at the same time they knew that if they succeeded here they would win the war. However, many of Cardolan's soldiers guarded the area and each of them had a horseman whose job it was to gallop off immediately and bring help if they saw an enemy. However, these were immediately shot down by the dark rangers, the evildoers slowly but surely advanced and began the rituals. But suddenly a Dunedain captain, Carthaen, appeared, who wanted to protect the area at all costs, and fought fiercely and stubbornly. However, he was injured during the fights and hid for a while, but the wizards of Angmar were more and more numerous and the dark plan was progressing well. Moreover, Morgomir successfully summoned Angmar's most powerful monster, the Shade of the Wolf, which destroyed the Dunedain knights and other soldiers in a matter of seconds. Even before sunrise the plan succeeded, thousands of souls were corrupted, then Carthaen emerged again and began to fight, Morgomir and other villains then decided that the soul of the brave captain would be their biggest catch here.

Morgomir create the most powerful barrow wight, Karsh, the Whisperer.

The captain was injured and fled to a barrow, but he be surrounded by Morgomir and the barrow wights. He refused to surrender, whereupon Morgomir stabbed him with a Morgul blade, then mortally wounded Carthae with his sword, who fell. He then completely transformed and became one of Angmar's strongest warriors, Karsh the Whispering Wight.

The Great Plague caused enormous destruction, it spread not only to Arnor, but the deadly disease reached almost all areas of Middle-earth except for Angmar, including the lands of the elves, Gondor and even the territory of Rhún. Many years after the ravages of the terrible disease, Cardolan also fell and only Arthedain was able to withstand the wrath of Angmar and Fornost was the only defensible, strong city of Arnor. The Witch-king knew that if he was victorious here, his revenge would be complete and Angmar would win the war once and for all. Morgomir and Karsh went forward with a smaller group, where they were met by an elite Dunedain group. A fierce battle ensued even before the siege, but the two leaders of Angmar successfully survived the battle, after which the Witch-king and Rogash arrived to begin the siege. However, the Dunedains counterattacked, and hobbits and elves arrived to stop Angmar's forces, but they were all killed. The troll stone throwers destroyed the outer walls with ice projectiles, the Shade of the Wolf broke down the gates of Fornost, and then the hordes of evil entered the city. The Dunedains persevered to the end, but were gradually reduced and pushed further and further back, while the hordes of Angmar showed no mercy to anyone, destroyed and looted everything they could, and finally reached the Fornost Citadel and the Government building. Both buildings were completely destroyed, the city was completely razed, thousands lay dead, and Angmar won its last and final victory over Arnor.

After the fall of Arnor, Gondor wanted to intervene anyway, and the king, Earnur, went to Rivendell to talk to the elves. They all agreed that the Witch King's kingdom had become the strongest evil realm in Middle-earth and that if they didn't do something, Angmar would be unstoppable. Gondor and the Elves united their armies and marched together against Angmar, but their goal was not to drive the Witch-king back to Carn Dúm, but to completely destroy Angmar. The Witch-king underestimated his enemy and prepared the battle, not far from the ruins of Fornost. Morgomir awaited the enemy with black númenóreans and dark rangers, and when they appeared he immediately launched a counterattack.

Morgomirdefeat

Angmar's minions also attacked from the side, and Morgomir fought against the three heroes. Angmar's minions also attacked from the side, and Morgomir fought against the three heroes, almost killing Earnur, but together the three defeated him and his army was destroyed. They then pushed forward, defeating both Karsh and Rogash before launching their final assault against the Witch-king. After a long and bloody battle, the ruler of Angmar was finally defeated, but neither he nor Morgomir died, as both were ringwraiths and returned to Mordor.

MorgomirNazgul

Morgomir as a Nazgúl.

Morgomir then followed the Witch-king as before and took part in the siege of Minas Ithil, which became Minas Morgul. Like the other Nazguls, he was looking for the One Ring, which was with Frodo Baggins, but when they found it, the nine Nazguls were washed away by the flood of the water of the Misty Mountains. He also took part in the siege of Minas Tirith, but retired after Mordor was defeated. After the destruction of the Witch-king, Khamúl became the new leader of the Nazgûl, and Morgomir was probably the second. He also took part in the final battle at the Black Gate, but when Frodo put the One Ring on his finger, he and the remaining Nazgûl wanted to get to Mount Doom to retrieve their master's relic and kill the ring bearer. However, Frodo destroyed the Ring, Sauron's tower collapsed, and without the Ring and their master, Morgomir and the rest of the Nazgul perished.

Personality[]

Morgomir was a cruel, proud, sadist and intelligent minion of the Witch King and Sauron. He was loyal to his leaders and followed them wherever he went, but he was cruel, merciless and insensitive towards his enemies.

Powers and abillities[]

Morgomir was a powerful servant of the Witch King and Sauron. As one of the nine Ringwraiths, he was originally a dangerous and notorious minion of the forces of evil, but his special qualities and abilities made him particularly powerful.

  • Swordsmanship: Morgomir was the talented, skilled, fast swordsman. He was a very dangerous opponent in a one-on-one duel, but he was able to fight multiple enemies. He defeated the Dunedain soldiers with ease, and even in the battle of Fornost, he was able to fight against three heroes for a while. He was also capable of a special attack with his sword, inflicting particularly heavy damage on buildings.
  • Dread Visage: Like the Witch King and the other Nazgul, there was a dark aura around Morgomir, near which his enemies began to fear him. This ability has reduced their defenses and the effectiveness of their attacks.
  • Morgul blade: Morgomir often used this weapon to turn others into barrow wights.
  • Leadership and strategy: Morgomir was a great and talented strategist. He won many battles against Arnor, one of the strongest kingdoms in the north, and also against the elves

Trivia[]

  • Morgomir does not appear at all in Tolkien's works, only in Rise of the Witch King.
  • Due to his deeds, achievements and power, it is likely that he was the third most important Nazgul after Khamul.
  • He was the only villain protagonist character to appear in every level of Angmar's campaign.
