Melkor, later known as Morgoth, is the overarching antagonist of the television series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He is a fallen Ainu that became the Dark Lord during the First Age and sought out to conquer all of Middle-earth, terrorizing and destroying many civilizations in the process.
In doing so, he created various monsters to form a powerful army, as well as corrupted every being he came across under his control, thus everything evil that walks on Middle-earth originates from his very existence. Though he has since been defeated and imprisoned, his legacy would be carried on by his right-hand and successor, Sauron, who intends to fulfill his master's goal of conquering Middle-earth once more.
Biography[]
Morgoth was once a Vala that fell into darkness and became the Dark Lord of the First Age. He sought to conquer all of Middle-earth and in order to do so, he created an army of various monsters, as well as corrupted those to serve under his will. His actions resulted in the lost lives of many and the destruction of the Two Trees of Valinor but also allowed the Elves to arise from the ashes and resist his forces.
Morgoth was eventually defeated and imprisoned for his crimes, but his army still lived on. His right hand, Sauron, would eventually succeed in his place and become the next Dark Lord who will seek to conquer Middle-earth. Adar, one of his Orcs, thought he killed Sauron only for Sauron to actually survive in his human form of Halbrand.
