Foul Tarnished… in search of the Elden Ring. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Someone must extinguish thy flame. Let it be Margit the Fell!
~ Morgott meeting the Tarnished for the first time.
Graceless Tarnished. What is thy business with these thrones? Ahh… Godrick the Golden. The twin prodigies, Miquella and Malenia. General Radahn. Praetor Rykard. Lunar Princess Ranni. Wilful traitors, all. Thy kind are all of a piece. Pillagers. Emboldened by the flame of ambition. Have it writ upon thy meagre grave: Felled by King Morgott! Last of all kings.
~ Morgott upon meeting the Tarnished a second time.

Morgott, the Omen King, alternatively known as Margit, the Fell Omen is a major antagonist in the 2022 video game, Elden Ring and a supporting antagonist in its 2025 spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign. He is an Omen that occupies the royal capital of Leyndell as its ruler and watches over the Erdtree, acting as its guardian. He also happens to be the son of Queen Marika the Eternal and Lord Godfrey, as well as the twin brother of Mohg, the Lord of Blood.

Under the will of the Golden Order, Morgott ensures that no one is to become Elden Lord and does whatever he can to prevent those from doing so, including the Tarnished.

He is voiced by Anthony Howell.

Overview[]

Early Life[]

Morgott was born of the Golden Lineage, the offspring of the first Elden Lord, Godfrey and Queen Marika, and was the twin brother of Mohg. The twins were both born as accursed Omen, and as a result were confined to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds below the capital, despite their royal pedigree. Because they were born of royalty, their horns were not excised. Unlike his brother, Morgott, who has a strong devotion to the Erdtree despite his status as an Omen, renounced his accursed blood. Extracting a portion of it, he sealed it away within a warped blade, causing it to shimmer within the sword in different hues. The blade was then encased in a wooden cane, which Morgott carried all the time.

The Shattering[]

After Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring, Morgott claimed one of the Great Runes, an anchor rune that houses the bases, which proved that he was indeed the Lord of Leyndell. As it fell into disarray as a result of the Shattering, Morgott claimed and secured the city for himself and defended it and the Erdtree against his fellow demigods and their forces. During that time, he even battled Starscourge Radahn, though the outcome of the battle is unknown, as it is unclear if Morgott was triumphant, due to Radahn's status as the mightiest hero of the demigods. Despite being successful in protecting the Erdtree, Morgott found that it would not admit him, or anyone else, to claim the title of Elden Lord. Despite the fact that he had been reviled as an accursed fiend by the Golden Order and not being included in the Erdtree's grace, Morgott took it upon himself to become its protector while also smiutaneously ruling Leyndell as the Veiled Monarch.

During the Shattering, he took on the identity of Margit the Fell Omen and slaughtered any champions who approached the Erdtree in the hopes of becoming Elden Lord. Under this pseudonym, he also lead the Night's Cavalry, who assisted him in the killing of great warriors, knights and champions during the night. During his reign over Leyndell, he was able to somehow appear both at Stormveil Castle's outer gate and in the battle-torn fields outside of Leyndell, in the lattermost case possessing the body of a commoner.

Recent History[]

After claiming enough shards of the Elden Ring, the Tarnished gains entrance to Leyndell and challenges Morgott at the Elden Throne. Denouncing them and all of his demigod siblings as willful traitors and pillagers emboldened by ambition, he attacks the Tarnished champion. As he begins to falter during the fight, he even unleashes his curse and his accursed blood to aid him, although feeling unbearable shame in doing so. Upon his defeat, Morgott, strangely no longer appearing as an Omen, warns the Tarnished that the Erdtree would ward them off as it had done for him, and that none may claim the title of Elden Lord. Later, after setting fire to the Erdtree using the Giant's Forge and releasing the Rune of Death, the same Tarnished encounters Morgott's father Godfrey at the Elden Throne, tenderly holding his son's body as it fades away.

Personality[]

Unlike his other fellow demigods, Morgott had no interest in obtaining power for selfish reasons, let alone desire to become Elden Lord. Instead, Morgott pledges his loyalty to the Golden Order and views his siblings as traitors for going against it in favor of their own ambitions.

As an Omen, however, he was detested by many and his honorable acts were not recognized, not even by the Golden Order. For this reason, he remained very bitter of his Omen nature, but even then, he chose to remain loyal and continue protecting Leyndell, believing loyalty to be a reward in its own right. When his mother disappeared from the world, Morgott was more focused on ensuring Leyndell wouldn't fall captive in the hands of his selfish siblings than to pursue his own goals.

In contrast to his twin brother, Mohg, Morgott holds no malicious intent of any sort and is only carrying out his task because the Golden Order wills it. Due to this, he relentlessly goes out of his way to ensure those like the Tarnished are not to become Elden Lord, regardless of who they are or what their intentions are. Despite his loyalty, however, Morgott has questioned the intent of the Golden Order as he is unsure why it refuses Tarnished to become Elden Lord, especially later seeing that the refusal of a new Elden Lord could potentially lead to cataursophic problems for not just his kingdom, but the world itself. Even so, he refuses to go against their calling because of how devoted he has become to his role as the Erdtree's guardian.

Quotes[]

Well, thou art of passing skill. Warrior blood must truly run in thy veins, Tarnished.
~ Margit initiating his second phase.
Put these foolish ambitions to rest.
~ Margit/Morgott should he defeat the Tarnished.
I shall remember thee, Tarnished. Smould'ring with thy meagre flame. Cower in Fear. Of the Night. The hands of the Fell Omen shall brook thee no quarter.
~ Margit after being defeated.
Tarnished, thou'rt but a fool. The Erdtree wards off all who deign approach. We are... we are all forsaken. None may claim the title of Elden Lord. Thy deeds shall be met with failure, just as I.
~ Morgott after being defeated.
