Moseis, real name Beynuni, is a major antagonist of the 2020 action role-playing fantasy game, Genshin Impact who serves as the main antagonist of Nahida's Story Quest: Sapientia Oromasdis Chapter Act I: Lingering Warmth.
Initially an average Akademiya Scholar of the Kshahrewar Darshan. After losing his partner, Emira, he sought to utilize the Akasha terminal to steal Jnana energy from others in order to "recreate" her through a dream.
Personality[]
Beynuni was deeply in love with his partner, Emira. To him, it felt as if they were two bodies sharing the same heart. After her passing from Eleazar, Beynuni became extremely delusional. Refusing to accept the harshness of his situation, he threw away his own sense of reality and chose to escape into a Dream-world to see her once again. As he continued to recruit and exploit others to power his dream, he would develop a strong sense of Megalomania. Portraying himself as a God-like being who could give his subjects whatever they desired, and believing himself immune to the authority of the Archons.
History[]
Past[]
Beynuni was a Kshahrewar Scholar who had taken interest in the study of dreams. During his time at the Akedemiya, he met Emira. The two developed mutual feelings and became a couple. However, their love would soon turn to tragedy as Emira would later succumb to complications with Eleazar.
Having lost the love of his life, Beynuni began to experiment with the Akasha terminal. Seeing a potential means of "re-creating" Emira, Beynuni utilized his research on dreams in an attempt to create a dream world inhabited by a "hyper-realistic" re-creation of his partner. Using the Akasha's Jnana energy to power his dream, Beynuni successfully created a dream-copy of Emira.
To recreate Emira's personality, he utilized the Akasha's database to recruit several others who also faced loss and grief. Under the pretense of treating mental health disorders, he planted signaling devices into his subjects' bodies to network them into the dream world so Emira could feel their yearning. As he further invested in his experiments, he soon uploaded his own consciousness into the Akasha as well to fully focus on his work.
After Nahida turned off the Akasha System, Beynuni found himself trapped in his own creation without any Jnana energy. Though initially in a panic, he soon realized that he could utilize his subjects as a new source of Jnana energy to sustain his dream. Now without a way to return to his real body, he would remain in his dream world for a duration, taking up the name "Moseis" to avoid being recognized by his subjects.
Discovered by the Dendro Archon[]
In upholding his dream world, Moseis had unintentionally endangered his test subjects as they would sleepwalk and put themselves in danger during their dreams. This eventually caught the attention of the Traveler, Paimon, and Nahida. Using Nahida's powers, the trio entered the dream of one of Moseis' test subjects, and continued forward until they finally entered the greater Dream-World. Upon their arrival, they investigated all the other subjects before singling out Moseis as the Dream's owner.
Realizing he had been discovered, Moseis admitted his plans to Nahida. Initially, Moseis justified himself by claiming he was providing his subjects with the ability to dream of their lost loved ones in exchange for their Jnana energy. As his made his statement, all the subjects joined the conversation in support of Moseis' argument. Moseis then intimidated Nahida, claiming that if she could truly understood humans and the pain of loss, then she would not have been so cold towards what he was doing.
Nahida however, declared that Moseis had committed one of the six cardinal sins of the Akademiya with his research. She then went on to remind the subjects of the people they had left behind in real life in their pursuit of reunion with their lost loved ones. With this reminder, all of the subjects began to reconsider their choice and realized they had to wake up.
Unswayed by her claims, Moseis taunted Nahida by stating that even if his subjects left the dream, they would simply return, and that being a God would not always make them listen. Having become annoyed by Nahida's interference, Moseis used his authority over the dream to summon monsters to attack the trio. Although the Traveler successfully defeated wave after wave of enemies, Moseis claimed they have not won, and attempted to summon stronger monsters. However, his actions caused the dream to become unstable, turning all of the subject's re-created loved ones into monsters, including Emira.
Defeat[]
After defeating these new enemies, the trio confronted a now traumatized Moseis. Knowing the Dream would soon collapse after the Jnana energy had been depleted, Moseis resigned himself. Asking the Traveler and Nahida to let him die with his failed creation. Nahida however, denied his request much to his discontent, declaring he would not escape his punishment so easily. She would therefore extract his consciousness from the dream and put it into a knowledge capsule, which would later be returned to his real body. Thus, leaving him in the hands of the Matra.
