Mother Longlegs are gigantic arachnids that stand around 20 feet tall and have greenish-brown exoskeletons. They possess incredibly long legs that resemble bamboo stalks, allowing them to blend in seamlessly with surrounding forests, with their legs posing as plants and their upper bodies held high above the canopy.
Their faces resemble skulls, being a light beige in color with large red eyes. In addition to their eight legs, Mother Longlegs possess two additional limbs located closer to their heads, which are equipped with pincer-like claws while their abdomen is covered in grass-like fur. Also, their underbellies can open up like a hatch, revealing a digestive orifice.
Kong: Skull Island
In 1973, Preston Packard and his men were passing through a dense bamboo forest on Skull Island searching for the rest of the group of the 1973 Monarch expedition, one of the soldiers was impaled through the mouth by the leg of a Mother Longlegs. The other soldiers looked up at the canopy and saw the colossal arachnid's body moving across the treetops. They immediately opened fire on the creature, which retaliated by trying to stab the men with its legs and using the tentacle-like structures in its mouth to try and eat them. The soldiers retaliated by slicing off the tips of the Mother Longlegs' limbs with machetes and firing on its cephalothorax, causing it to finally topple over. Packard approached the fallen creature and fired several rounds into its head with his pistol, killing it.
Skull Island: The Birth of Kong
In 1995, a group of Mother Longlegs, including a ginormous one the size of Kong, attacked the Iwi settlement after Riccio destroyed the walls using seismic charges brought by the previous Monarch expedition. The giant arthropods started to kill many, including Riccio's colleague Medov. When Aaron Brooks and Ato were cornered by the larger Mother Longlegs, Kong arrived catching it off guard, killing it before proceeding to slaughter all of the remaining smaller individuals, saving Aaron's life.
Powers and Abilities
Camouflage: Mother Longlegs are perfectly adapted for camouflage in the dense forests of Skull Island.
Enhanced Strength: Due to their huge size, Mother Longlegs are strong enough to carry prey in their pincers and tendrils.
Enhanced Speed and Agility: Mother Longlegs are fast and agile to use their legs to strike their intended victims in a swift motion. They are also able to leap and reach large heights.
Webbing: Mother Longlegs are capable of firing webbing during their fight with Kong to slow him down.
Poison: The legs of the Mother Longlegs are filled with deadly poison. Once they use their legs to immobilize their prey, they will use them to inject venom into the opponent's body and start to absorb nutrients from it.
Reproduction: Since they are an all-female species, the Mother Longlegs are capable of asexual reproduction.
Pincers: Mother Longlegs are equipped with crab-like pincers that allow them to grab and grip their prey.
Tendrils: Mother Longlegs can release muscular fleshy tendrils from openings beneath their abdomens to snag their immobilized prey and reel them up into their open stomach to digest.
Legs: The Mother Longlegs' legs are razor-sharp and can be used as deadly weapons in combat as the spear-like tips are capable of piercing through opponents with ease.
Limited Durability: The smaller Mother Longlegs are quite vulnerable to gunfire and they can easily be overpowered by Kong. However, the larger one was more immune to gunfire, but was killed quickly by Kong.
Vulnerable Legs: The legs of the Mother Longlegs are quite thin and fragile. If some of the legs are sliced off, the Mother Longlegs will fall and become helpless.
It is possible that the Mother Longlegs may have been inspired by the Giant Mutant Widow Spider from Godzilla: The Series, since this giant spider is also a female that could reproduce asexually.
