Mother Spider is a minor antagonist in the anime and manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serving as a major antagonist in the Natagumo Mountain Arc. She is a demon that was found by the Lower Moon Rui and forced to become the mother of his fake family. Like the rest of the spider family, she has the goal to kill every Demon Slayer that invades Mount Natagumo.
She was voiced by Ami Koshimizu in Japanese and by Allegra Clark in English.
Appearance[]
As a member of the Spider Family, She has a very similar in appearance to her "son" Rui, having the same milky-white skin, teal eyelashes and nails, and circular, red facial markings. She also possesses a short and curvaceous physique. Additionally, she had bushy eyebrows and long, white hair parted down the middle of her face which was tied with teal orbs into two, thick strands.
She wore a lengthy, layered kimono — maroon on the inside layer and white on the outside layer — that exposed part of her chest and was tied with a patterned obi. She also donned a beaded necklace composed of teal and purple orbs and decorative anklets. She also goes barefoot and has black nail polish on her toenails; the lower front of the kimono is open, exposing her legs.
Her original appearance was completely different from her transformed one, with a much smaller, childlike body compared to her new, more voluptuous figure. Her skin was marked with two maroon lines on each of her cheeks and her eyes were rounder with yellow irises and x-shaped pupils. She also wore her short, black hair parted to the side with bangs framing her face and two, low pigtails.
Personality[]
At first, the Mother Spider shows the classic traits of the demons, cold, malevolent, and hungry for human meat. But in reality, among the spider family, she reveals herself to be the most fragile and human one. She always tries to do her best in order to not provoke Rui or the rest of the spider family, showing a constant fear of her own kind, especially from the Father Spider. It could be said that she saw her own role as a demon and a mother figure for the spider family as more like torture rather than a benefit.
In her final moments, she seemed to have regained some of her feelings and memories as a human and seemed to have been genuinely touched by Tanjiro's kindness, thanking him for giving her peace by warning him that Rui's a Twelve Kizuki on the mountain, wishing him to be careful in her last moments.
Biography[]
Not much of the Mother Spider's past is told, but it is implied that she was once a normal girl that one day went to Mount Natagumo and encountered Rui, one of the Twelve Demon Moons, who made her drink a substance that turned her into a demon and forced her to become part of his fake family as their mother. Despite her important role, she showed up to make several mistakes, and as such, she would have ended up getting punished several times, especially by the father figure. This brought her a severe trauma and made her feel forced to do everything to accomplish her duties in order to be safe. When a small group of Demon Slayers arrive at Mount Natagumo, she and the rest of the Spider Family descend into action to get rid of them. Through her strings, she's able to take control of some of the Demon Slayers and move them as puppets, forcing them to kill themselves or use them to kill their companions. When Tanjiro and Inosuke arrive at the mountain, they get attacked by some members of their corps and figure out that a demon is behind this. While Inosuke is more than willing to kill the Demon Slayers, Tanjiro wants to have mercy and convinces his friend to search for the demon and throws him high, in order to make him see where the demon was situated. Thanks to this, Tanjiro spots the Mother Spider and goes down to finish her off. At first, the Mother Spider is scared for this, but she then spread her arms, making Tanjiro intend that she wants him to kill her. To such gesture, Tanjiro decides to use the fifth technique of the Water Breathing instead of the first, in order to give her a painless death. In an instant the Mother Spider's head is chopped off, but she feels at ease and thanks Tanjiro. She then warns him of the presence of Rui is one of the Twelve Demon Moons in the mountain and then dies with her body turning into ashes. With her death, the Demon Slayers that were controlled by her strings get free again, even if some of them were already dead.

- Despite her playing the role as the "Mother", she's actually very young for a demon. If her true form is anything to go by, she is at least a pre-teen.
- Out of all the members of the Spider Family, the Mother Spider is the first member to find redemption.
