Biography[]
Motoko overhears rumors of a pandemic spreading across Sotoba and killing various residents. After her father-in-law Iwao Maeda dies, she panics out of fear that her family is in danger, causing her mother-in-law to slap her and blame her for creating a stressful environment that eventually killed her husband.
When her daughter gets sick, she rushes across town to the clinic run by Toshio Ozaki to get help, but Toshio is already busy experimenting on his wife, and is unable to answer her. Eventually her daughter dies, and her mother-in-law follows her. After hearing a rumor that her father-in-law was spotted wandering around after his death, she immediately believes it and blames him for pulling her family over to the "other side".
After her son is bitten by Iwao, she grabs him and takes him into the bathroom with her. Locking them inside, she sits in the tub with him until he passes away from dehydration/malnutrition. Afterward she is completely mentally broken, and wanders over to her lifelong friend Kanami Yano's house, where she discovers that her mother has risen from the dead. Despite promising to keep it a secret, she immediately tells the hunters about it and gets Kanami's mother killed.
Motoko then wanders the village, seeking out Iwao so she can kill him out of revenge. Little does she know that Natsuno Koide had already killed him, then hid/immolated the body to keep it a secret from Tatsumi. Hopelessly checking every last location she could, eventually Motoko gave up and just decided to burn the village to the ground, ensuring that Iwao will die in the inferno. As the fire spreads, it burns her alive, yet all she can do is grin and claim that she won.
