Mouse is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
He is the Engineer's champion in the Bordeaux Mines, being the primary opponent that miners face in the "Mousetrap" during fight nights. Pickers are forced to fight Mouse whenever they fail to meet their mining quota, with the promise that they will become the new champion if they manage to defeat him, a process which he takes great joy in.
He was portrayed by Ivan Kostadinov, who also played Krug in The Expendables 3.
Personality[]
In contrast to the other Pickers, Mouse is extremely loyal to the Engineer, likely due to the position of champion that he has been granted by him. Mouse took great joy in being the Engineer's champion, killing the Pickers who did not meet their quotas without any remorse. Furthermore, when Sunny and Bajie attempted to escape the Bordeaux Mines, Mouse pursued them in order to capture them for the Engineer, even though he was not required to and wasn't one of his guards. This led to him being the only Picker who was actually on good terms with the Engineer, with the Engineer being extremely enraged after Mouse is killed by Sunny and Bajie.
Biography[]
At some point in time Mouse was sold into slavery and ended up in the Bordeaux Mines to become a Picker. Unlike the majority of Pickers Mouse was extremely physically imposing, and as such was given the opportunity to become the champion of the fight nights that take place once a week as a form of entertainment for the Pickers. Mouse successfully became the new Champion for the Engineer, and the fighting ring was renamed to the "Mousetrap" due to none of the Pickers standing a chance against him. Years later, two men named Bajie and Sunny end up being sold into slavery for different reasons and sold to the Bordeaux Mines to become Pickers. At the same time, the monthly quota for the Pickers had been exceeded, and as such the Engineer hosted a fight night in order to reward the Pickers. Sunny and Bajie witness Mouse killing a group of "volunteers" who failed to meet their quota, during which Bajie explains the way the Mousetrap works to Sunny due to him having been in the Bordeaux Mines for a longer period of time. Later, Sunny desires to escape from the mines, and finds that there is a potential escape route near the Mousetrap and intentionally fails his quota in order to get throw into it. When Bajie informs the Engineer of Sunny's past as a Clipper in the Badlands, he chains the two of them together to fight Mouse, believing that if Bajie was willing to betray Sunny, then he would betray the Engineer as well. The two of them then fight Mouse, and despite being chained together, their superior martial art skills allow them to overpower Mouse and flee from the Bordeaux Mines. Mouse pursues them to an underground tunnel where they are trying to escape through a mechanical fan. They jam the fan to stop it but when Mouse attempts to pull them back through, the fan becomes unjammed and Sunny kicks Mouse back into it, killing him.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Martial Arts: Due to his sheer brute strength, Mouse was a highly formidable combatant, able to hold his own against Sunny and Bajie, two of the most skilled warriors in the Badlands.
Trivia[]
- Mouse is the only character in the series who fights with brute strength rather than in a Wuxia film style of martial arts.
