Mr. Bonzo is a supporting antagonist of The Magnus Protocol. He is a monstrous children's mascot created for Nigel Dickerson presents Saturdays on Six, and serves as the main antagonist of the episodes Saturday Night, Getting Off, and Terms & Conditions.

The original Mr. Bonzo created for Saturdays on Six was a parody of beloved children's TV characters percieved as creepy and annoying by adults. Celebrities would be invited to be on a show with Mr. Bonzo, and forced to put up with his destructive antics as to not upset the supposed target audience of his programs.

The Mr. Bonzo presented during the events of The Magnus Protocol is a semi-organic monstrosity with no performer inside. He is a living creature in his own right, and is an "External" to the Office of Incident Assessment and Response. He is extremely violent and holding Nigel Dickerson hostage in his own home.

Appearance[]

Nigel Dickerson presents Saturdays on Six[]

On the TV series Nigel Dickerson presents Saturdays on Six, Mr. Bonzo was portrayed as a yellow-coloured clown mascot with orange spots, a wide and toothy grin, a large purple nose, orange eyes, as well as a purple tie and bowler hat. He has large hands with four fingers and shoe-like feet.

The Magnus Protocol[]

The real Mr. Bonzo is mostly orange in colour with bright yellow pustules dotted across his body. He is described as being sweaty, and having skin rather than plush suit material. Unlike his cartoonish counterpart, this version of Bonzo has many wrinkles and folds across his body, rather than an evenly round build. He is split down the middle by a sewn-together seam which opens at places and reveals flesh. He has no hat, and his tie is torn and discoloured.

Personality[]

Nigel Dickerson presents Saturdays on Six[]

The mascot Mr. Bonzo was a clumsy and foolish character, a trait which was played up to the extreme to annoy the guests which were placed alongside him on the show. However, due to the mass appeal of the Mr. Bonzo skits, he was slowly transitioned into a character which was actually intended to entertain children, burying his parodical roots. Due to this popularity, a Bonzo-themed amusement park named Bonzoland was opened (which later became defunct) and a lot of Bonzo merchandise was sold, even after the show's cancellation and the infamous murders involving the character's likeness.

The Magnus Protocol[]

Mr. Bonzo is a violent and incredibly dangerous entity in the modern world of The Magnus Protocol. He has seemingly killed many people under the orders of the O.I.A.R, and is implied to have been behind the Bonzo Butcher murders which Terrance Menki was imprisoned for, and which ruined the reputation of the Mr. Bonzo brand. He does retain some elements from the original mascot counterpart, such as the bumbling attitude in some circumstances, but Mr. Bonzo can be incredibly efficient in killing entire groups of people in a short time.

Biography[]

Background[]

In 1994, Channel Six approached Nigel Dickerson to be the host and frontman of their new Saturday night variety show. According to Nigel himself, it was a risky move, as he wasn't very well-known at the time, but the new show caused his career to kick off and was a big hit with audiences. The premise of the show was that Nigel had been imprisoned by a mysterious "Mr. Six," the fictional head of Channel Six, in a comedy dungeon, and would only be released if he put on a good show. Mr.Six would act as a major antagonist in the show, phoning in at the start of each episode to tell Nigel what bizarre constraints he had to do the episode of the show under.

Nigel Dickerson presents Saturdays on Six[]

In a section of the show entitled 'You Got Berried!,' celebrities were invited onto the show to be "berried," which often involved minor embarrasment for the sake of the joke. Nigel's producer had the idea to create a fake children's entertainer for one of these segments, and tell the victim of that episode that he was beloved across the nation, waiting how long it took for them to get that they were the joke of the episode.

Nigel designed Mr. Bonzo to be a positively nightmarish character, a big, bulbous, splotchy suit, running around, screaming his own name and generally being a nuisance. He cannot recall who named the character Mr. Bonzo, just that the name was said one day and stuck.

The first appearance of Mr. Bonzo on Saturdays on Six was on 06/08/1996, where he was paired with a TV chef named Gotard Rimbaeu, who the producers told that he was going to be on an episode teaching children how to cook. The episode was broadcast live, and included Rimbaeu's genuine first reaction to Mr. Bonzo, which was naturally one of terror. When Mr. Bonzo started to throw things all over the set, Gotard ended up trying to hide from the mascot. Disaster struck when Mr. Bonzo tried to go in for a cuddle, the performer in the suit being attacked with a frying pan. His arm ended up broken, which prompted Nigel to come out with the Golden Berry and proclaim that Gotard had 'been berried.'

The episode was a smash success, and the british public demanded more Mr. Bonzo. He made some more appearances on the show as a prank character, but eventually so many people became wise to the joke that in his original role he was retired. For the rest of the show's run, Mr. Bonzo became one of Nigel's many tormentors in the dungeon, eventually replacing Mr. Six as the show's villain.

Despite being designed as a parody of children's characters, Mr. Bonzo actually did end up becoming extremely popular with british children. The single "Mr. Bonzo's On His Way" topped charts for twelve weeks, and merchandise featuring the character was sold in stores all across the country. During this time of major success for the Mr. Bonzo character, construction on a small theme park named "Bonzoland" began.

However, 'Bonzomania' came to a screeching halt due to the crimes of one Terrance Menki, a serial killer who dressed up in home-made costumes and murdered eleven people. He was finally caught dressed as Mr. Bonzo, and was dubbed the 'Bonzo Butcher' by the press. This led to the cancellation of Saturdays on Six, construction to be halted on Bonzoland, and Nigel himself to recieve death threats from the public.

S2.5- Terms & Conditions[]

Terrance Menki had been completely infatuated with Mr. Bonzo for his entire life, to a degree in which he viewed the character as a quasi-religious figure. His parasocial relationship with Mr. Bonzo leads to him killing his father, and then nine other people, before deciding to create a Bonzo costume of his own to wear for the eleventh. After being convicted, Terrance Menki was incarcerated in Strangeways Prison, Manchester. During his time behind bars, Menki recieved three pieces of mail, all in the same yellow colour with orange spots, covered in purple ink. They progressively got larger, and the images of Mr. Bonzo on them more distorted, until a parole meeting where Menki discussed it in detail with the parole board. Terrance wished to stay in solitary in hopes that Mr. Bonzo could not find him, but was referred to the Elric Rehabilitation Initiative regardless. The record ends abruptly with the implication that Menki had attacked the other people in the room with him.

After the Show[]

At some undisclosed point in time, Mr. Bonzo became popular as an edgy internet meme, likely in reference to the infamous Terrance Menki murders.

Three murders from 2016-2021 were once again linked to the Bonzo Butcher, as eyewitnesses described a person in a Mr. Bonzo outfit being at the scene of the crime.

S1.10- Saturday Night[]

One of Gwendolyn Bouschard's first assignments as an Externals Liason was to deliver a red envelope to the home of Nigel Dickerson and give it to Mr. Bonzo. Her encounter with him almost ends 'very badly' according to Nigel, due to not being forewarned of his paranormal nature by Lena, and staring at him in horror when he entered the room. After devouring the letter, he runs off to fulfill his duties as an external of the OIAR.

S1.12- Getting Off[]

After being directed to the place by Gwen, Mr. Bonzo enters a night club to the tune of his theme song, killing the bouncer and quickly moving on to the stag do inside. After killing the groom, Bonzo killed or mutilated everybody else inside the room, before leaving as soon as he arrived.
