George Steever, also known as Mr. Brown, is a major antagonist in the 1974 film, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.

He was portrayed by the late Earl Hindman.

Biography[]

Not much was known about George Steever in the past, except that he was born in Tuscan, Arizona on January 1st, 1944, and that he had a stuttering problem.

In 1974, Steever takes part in the hijacking of the Pelham 123 subway train, assuming the alias of Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown boards the train at Grand Central Station and waits until it arrives at 33rd Street Station where Mr. Blue and the rest hijack the train. Once there, Mr. Brown holds the conductor hostage and tells him to leave the door open for Blue.

After uncoupling the rest of the train from the front car, Mr. Brown and the rest of the group take out their guns and hold 17 people hostage along with the conductor.

Just before Mr. Blue's group receive the ransom, shots were fired, resulting in a shootout between the NYPD and the hijackers, and Mr. Brown is shot in the shoulder.

Mr. Brown and the hijackers get off the train at an exit before South Ferry before overriding the train's dead-man's switch and allowing it to speed off with the hostages on board. But as they prepare to make their escape, one of the passengers (who was an undercover police officer) managed to jump off the train and shoot Mr. Brown, killing him.
