Mr. Carpainter is a minor antagonist in Mother 2/EarthBound, serving as the main antagonist throughout the Twoson arc of the game. He is the leader of the Happy Happyists, and the second owner of the Evil Mani Mani statue after buying it from the previous owner, Lier X. Agerate. While under the influence of the statue, Carpainter believes that the key to happiness is painting everything in the world blue, starting with the Happy Happy Village. He makes Porky Minch his right-hand man and orders him along with another member of the cult to kidnap Paula so she can supposedly become a high priestess, though Everdred claims that she was actually intended to be a human sacrifice.
Biography[]
Mr. Carpainter is mentioned several times by the Happy Happyists in the Happy Happy Village, but is not physically seen until Ness reaches his office. He offers Ness to be his right-hand assistant along with Paula, only to reveal that he doesn't actually need Ness. If Ness does not have the Franklin Badge, Carpainter will simply use his Crashing Boom Bang attack. However, if Ness does have the Franklin Badge, the attack is deflected. During the fight, Carpainter uses various paint attacks that are far more aggressive than a regular Insane Cultist. After the battle, Carpainter apologizes and reveals that it was the Mani Mani statue's influence that caused him to act the way he did. He then disbands the Happy Happyist cult and gives Ness the key to Paula's cage.
